S Rank is a collection of essays and art from BFA students and alumni from the NYU Game Center. Each annual volume contains works on a range of topics in games.

What is S Rank?

The name S Rank is a reference to the innovation of a grade above A. While it sometimes translates to a ‘perfect’ grade, an ‘S’ in this context is indicative of a great deal more than not making any mistakes. 

Each volume of S Rank is a collection of the original essays written by students and alumni from the NYU Game Center. Each essay was selected because of its originality, its clarity, and its persuasive power, and because the writer engages in a process that is increasingly rare. They did the work to figure out what they actually think, and thought enough about what they turned out to believe that they could take on the challenge of writing a persuasive case for their ideas. Their work is worthy of an 'S' not because they have fulfilled some set of predetermined qualifications, but because they have held themselves to a standard above the normal range, and in doing so they have each written something that only they could write. 

Every volume of S Rank is put together by a team of students and alumni from the NYU Game Center as well, including Edith Chen as Art Director, Anzhi Li providing illustrations, Kimya Taheri as Media Manager, and Charles Pratt serving as Editor. Logo by Winnie Song.
