Jarek Kuśmierek shared thisWhat an absolute honor to stand on the keynote stage at the Google Cloud Developers Summit in Warsaw. I had the pleasure there to share some of the details about the foundational systems that make everything at Google, including the AI revolution, possible. We talked about Borg, the legendary cluster management system that runs everything from Gmail to Google Cloud itself and Borg’s mind-boggling scale of millions of servers. And - we talked about other layers of our Cloud AI infrastructure. I’m incredibly proud of what all our engineering teams here in Poland are achieving! From Warsaw, Cracow, and Wrocław, our engineers are powering our advancements by building the infrastructure for massive Machine Learning jobs and creating the massive CPU-saving Autopilot project. But, the most important part of the event was the ability to meet over 1000 passionate developers, discuss everyone’s experiences and the direction in which the industry is heading. Thank you to everyone who attended the event! It was a privilege to talk about the great work we are doing and meet all of you!

In the last few weeks, I spent lots and lots of time with my family, and focused on my health. While our family has been going through some difficult times, this time has also been an incredibly rich and reflective time and I’m so grateful that I was able to do it. We made memories together, had epic adventures, and cherished time with each other as much as we could. I’m back now and looking to the future with optimism. I will post more on my next steps later. Reflecting back on my time at Google, the word that comes to mind most is gratitude. I’m really proud of a lot of the work we accomplished together. But most of all, I’m grateful that I got to share in part of this journey with a lot of great colleagues, some of whom have become dear friends. Some of you know that I was a “boomerang” at Google, having left and returned. This is because I still felt really connected to the company, people, and work even after I’d left for the first time. The same is true now that I've left for the second time. Thank you to all of you who have worked with me, supported me, challenged me, made me a better manager and coach, pushed me to deliver things I didn’t think we could deliver, and simply shared the journey with me. I’m cheering you on.

Jarek Kuśmierek liked thisJarek Kuśmierek liked thisBig news: I’ve joined Stacklok as CTO! It took a lot for me to exit “semi-retirement”. I was recovering from burnout and learning how to slow down. But this was just too good of an opportunity for me to pass up. I joined Stacklok for multiple reasons. First, if I’m going to call myself a software engineer in good faith, I have to learn and embrace this new world we find ourselves in. More than that, I want to help invent it! Exploring these new tools on my own would happen at a slower pace. But digging in as Stacklok’s CTO alongside an amazing team of Applied AI Engineers and platform builders is the best way to make this happen. Second, when advising others on how to evaluate an opportunity I always tell them to do some introspection on what is important to them. It isn’t the same for everyone. For me it has always been who I’m working with, who I’m working for and what I’m working on. All three of those line up with Stacklok. I love working with Craig McLuckie and Shanis Windland and Scott Buchanan. And the new folks that I’ve met as I’ve consulted and advised Stacklok have all been excellent. I genuinely like the people I’m working with now. And also, technically, Craig is my boss now too. Along with our investors. At Heptio we had a great set of VC partners in Ping and Tim. I’m excited to work with them again, and some new folks on the investor side, through Stacklok. The journey with Heptio has shown that your relationship with your board members and investors is complex and nuanced so I don’t say this lightly. Finally, I couldn’t be more bullish on what I’m working on. Taking AI and connecting it, in a safe way, with the rest of our world (especially the often unintuitive world that is “the enterprise”) is exciting. Stacklok has clear momentum, and the company’s open source MCP platform, ToolHive has a growing community with a deep well of ideas to explore. They say that history doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes. I can’t help but see the parallels to Kubernetes and our journey there. Things like open source, communities, companies figuring out how to compete and partner, category creation and definition, industry shifting. So much of this mirrors our experience building and growing Kubernetes and Heptio. I’m confident that there are a lot of lessons to apply to this new world. And a lot of new ones to learn also.

The answer is simple: to join Salestube as Chief Growth Officer 🤩 However, the process wasn't simple at all! Google = opportunities. It was a privilege to work with world-class leaders and impact business growth in Poland and CEE. It was an amazing rollercoaster ride across different roles and teams. I was lucky to have the best managers in the world. Piotr Marzec taught me that no ocean is too deep for me, and Magda Kotlarczyk showed me how to shake hands with my impostor syndrome - and then throw it out the window. Google is an amazing place to work... unless you want to have a different kind of impact. I wasn’t willing to trade away "forward-thinking courage." I wanted to join a martech leader, not a follower. But mostly, I wanted to help Polish company become truly global. There was only one choice. Salestube is going global! 🌍 And now, I’m joining them on this mission 🚀 Growth doesn't happen in a vacuum. A huge thank you to the people who helped me grow not only by supporting me, but mostly by challenging me a lot! during those 11 yrs @ Google (in order of appearance): Damian Huba, Krzysztof Rosiński, Nadia Carta, Rafal Kudriawcew, Donata Wolinska, Piotr Piętka, Diana Olar. I’ve added Jev from TypeSafe AI to the inbox triage in our AI Chief of Staff. It’s already running in the deployed app. Jev is a model built for making structured decisions from text. You define the question and the possible answers, and it returns typed results with probabilities. It doesn’t write summaries or explain its reasoning. TypeSafe AI calls this a “System One” model: fast, focused judgments that your application can use directly. You can ask it to choose a category, estimate the probability that a condition is true, or score something on a scale you define. That makes it useful for routing support tickets or deciding which inputs need a more capable model. For our inbox, I use it to answer four questions about each email: does it report a blocker? Does it ask the reader to do something? Is it purely a confirmation? Was it generated automatically? Jev returns a probability for each answer. PHP applies explicit thresholds to decide what reaches Claude, which then produces the triage summaries. If Jev fails or has no answer for an email, that email goes through to Claude anyway. On a frozen set of 25 real emails, the Jev-gated approach produced fewer false positives while preserving recall against our evaluation labels. We repeated each approach three times. The labels were model-generated, so this is an early engineering result rather than an independently validated accuracy claim. Running the per-email Jev requests concurrently brought processing time for that batch down from 11.2 seconds to around 1.6 seconds. This is the kind of model I can see using in more places. A lot of application logic gets stuck on a small question that needs language understanding. Having a model return a usable probability lets me keep the decision policy in code, where I can inspect and test it. https://typesafe.ai
