The advertised 10% welcome discount…
The advertised 10% welcome discount didn't work, so the promotion felt misleading from the outset. After I contacted customer service about it, my emails were simply ignored.
To make matters worse, the customer service phone number listed on the website wasn't working.
I then tried contacting the Southgate store directly, calling eight times over two days, but nobody answered.
When I eventually collected my cake, I explained to the member of staff that I'd been trying to call to rearrange my collection time. She showed little interest, and when I asked whether the phone was working, she simply turned around and walked into the back room without responding.
Overall, I experienced virtually no customer service.
The product itself was good. The cake tasted great and was reasonably priced.
Unfortunately, the overall experience suggested a business that is prioritising low prices over customer service. The staff appeared disengaged and unmotivated, whether because of workload, training, or wider organisational issues. Whatever the reason, it resulted in a very poor customer experience.
Personally, I would rather pay 20% more for a cake from a company that invests in its customer experience—ensuring promotional offers work correctly, customer service emails are answered, phone lines function, stores answer their calls, and staff are empowered to help customers.
I don't believe this is simply the fault of the Southgate staff or the customer service team. It feels like a wider organisational issue. I hope the company takes this feedback constructively and looks at how it supports and equips its employees, because motivated staff are ultimately what create a positive customer experience.
