  • the through holes 33 are formed in multiple rows in the centerline direction, with multiple through holes 33 formed in each row in the circumferential direction.
  • the multiple through holes 33 are formed uniformly in the area A1.
  • One example of a method for forming the through holes 33 is to wrap the connecting member 30 around the wrapping paper 22 of the filter unit 20, and then irradiate the connecting member 30 with laser light. At this time, it is preferable to adjust the intensity of the laser light to an intensity sufficient to form the through holes 23 that penetrate the wrapping paper 22. This simultaneously forms the through holes 33 in the connecting member 30 and the through holes 23 in the wrapping paper 22. These through holes 33 in the connecting member 30 and the through holes 23 in the wrapping paper 22 form a communication passage 40 that connects the outside of the flavor inhalation article 1 with the filter 21 located inside. Therefore, by forming the communication passage 40 in a region more than 8 mm from the end face on the mouth end side, it is possible to prevent the communication passage 40 from being blocked by the lips.
  • the presence of the communication passage 40 that connects the outside and inside of the flavor inhalation article 1 allows air to flow from the outside into the inside of the filter section 20 when the user inhales through the flavor inhalation article 1. It also makes it possible to lower the temperature of the steam and air flowing in from the base section 10. When the base section 10 is burned or heated, the steam generated using the aerosol as a condensation nucleus comes into contact with air from the outside and its temperature drops, liquefying, thereby facilitating the generation of aerosol.
  • the flavor inhalation article 1 comprises a base member 10 having a flavor source 11, a filter 21 located downstream of the base member 10, and a connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 22 as an example of an exterior member that covers the periphery of the filter 21.

Even if the region in the center line direction in which the communicating passages 40 are formed is held with the fingers and the openings 41 of some of the communicating passages 40 are blocked, the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 to all the communicating passages 40 is small.

If the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 relative to all communicating passages 40 increases and the proportion of unblocked communicating passages 40 is small, it may become impossible to inhale the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor. In other words, when a user inhales with X% of the multiple communicating passages 40 formed in a row unblocked, it is possible to inhale the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor through the communicating passages 40.
  • the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 to all communicating passages 40 is small, so it is possible to inhale the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor. First Embodiment
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an example of the appearance of a flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment.
FIG. 2 is a diagram showing an example of a vertical cross section of the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view showing an example of a cross section taken along line III-III of FIG.
The flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment includes a substrate 10, a filter 20 that reduces nicotine and tar, and a connecting member 30 that connects the substrate 10 and the filter 20. The flavor inhalation article 1 can be exemplified by, for example, a cigarette that generates smoke by burning tobacco leaves, or a non-combustion heat-type smoking article that releases tobacco components together with added glycerin through heating. The substrate 10 is formed in a cylindrical shape. Hereinafter, the direction of the center line CL of the substrate 10 may be referred to as the "center line direction." The flavor inhalation article 1 is wound around the connecting member 30 so as to integrate the substrate 10 and the filter 20, arranged in this order, along the center line direction. Hereinafter, one end side in the center line direction (the left side in FIG. 2 ) may be referred to as the first side, and the other end side in the center line direction (the right side in FIG. 2 ) may be referred to as the second side. The first side is the end side that is ignited or heated during inhalation and is upstream of the aerosol flow during inhalation. The second side is the opposite side to the first side, and is the end side (suction end side) that the user holds in their mouth for inhalation, and is the downstream side in the flow of aerosol during inhalation. Furthermore, a cross section along the center line direction is referred to as a "longitudinal cross section," and a cross section cut along a plane perpendicular to the center line direction is defined as a "transverse cross section."

(Base material part 10)
The substrate 10 is a portion that generates an aerosol by combustion or heating, and includes a flavor source 11 and a wrapping paper 12 that covers the outer periphery of the flavor source 11. The substrate 10 is formed into a cylindrical shape with the center line direction as the longitudinal direction by wrapping the flavor source 11 in the wrapping paper 12. However, the shape of the substrate 10 is not limited to a cylindrical shape.
The flavor source 11 may be, for example, a tobacco-derived product, such as a processed product obtained by molding tobacco shreds or tobacco raw materials into granules, sheets, or powder. The flavor source 11 may also include a non-tobacco-derived product made from plants other than tobacco (e.g., mint and herbs). As an example, the flavor source 11 may include a flavoring. The type of flavoring is not particularly limited, and menthol is particularly preferred from the viewpoint of imparting a good flavor. These flavorings may be used alone or in combination of two or more. The flavor source 11 is not limited to a solid, but may also be a liquid, such as a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerin or propylene glycol, or water.
The cross-sectional area and size in the center line direction of the substrate portion 10 and the content of the flavor source 11 can be appropriately changed according to the size of the flavor inhalation article 1 .

Furthermore, when the flavor source 11 is derived from tobacco, the type of tobacco used is not particularly limited, and various known types can be used. Examples of types of tobacco include flue-cured tobacco, burley tobacco, oriental tobacco, native tobacco, other Nicotiana tabacum varieties, Nicotiana rustica varieties, and mixtures thereof. For mixtures, various varieties are appropriately blended to achieve the desired flavor.
In addition, even when the flavor source 11 is derived from tobacco, it may contain extracts and/or components thereof from various natural products depending on the intended use. Examples of extracts and/or components thereof include glycerin, propylene glycol, triacetin, 1,3-butanediol, and mixtures thereof.

Furthermore, when the flavor source 11 is a processed product in which tobacco shreds or tobacco raw materials are formed into a sheet (hereinafter referred to as "tobacco sheet"), it can be appropriately manufactured using known methods such as papermaking, slurrying, rolling, etc. The tobacco sheet may also be made by grinding dried tobacco leaves to produce tobacco grounds, homogenizing this using known means, and then processing it into a sheet. The number of tobacco sheets may be one, or two or more. The two or more tobacco sheets may all have the same composition or physical properties, or some or all of the tobacco sheets may have different compositions or physical properties. Furthermore, the thickness of each tobacco sheet may be the same or different.

When the flavor source 11 is composed of a single tobacco sheet, for example, the flavor source 11 may be filled with a tobacco sheet having one side approximately the same size as the centerline of the substrate 10, folded multiple times horizontally in the centerline of the substrate 10 (a so-called gathered sheet). Also available is a tobacco sheet having one side approximately the same size as the centerline of the substrate 10, wound in a direction perpendicular to the centerline of the substrate 10.

In the case where the flavor source 11 is composed of two or more tobacco sheets, for example, a plurality of tobacco sheets, each having a side approximately the same size as the size in the center line direction of the substrate 10, are packed in a state where they are wound in a direction perpendicular to the center line direction of the substrate 10 so as to be concentrically arranged. "Concentrically arranged" means that the centers of all the tobacco sheets are arranged in approximately the same position.
The flavor source 11 may also be a shredded tobacco sheet. Furthermore, the flavor source 11 may be a so-called strand type, in which a tobacco sheet having a size approximately the same as the size of the base material 10 in the center line direction is shredded approximately parallel to the center line direction and filled.

The composition of the cigarette paper 12 is not particularly limited and may be of a general type, for example, one containing pulp as the main component. Pulp may be made from wood pulp such as softwood pulp or hardwood pulp, or may be made by mixing non-wood pulp commonly used in cigarette papers 12 for tobacco products, such as flax pulp, hemp pulp, sisal pulp, or esparto.
Usable types of pulp include chemical pulp produced by kraft cooking, acidic, neutral or alkaline sulfite cooking, soda cooking, etc., ground pulp, chemi-ground pulp, thermomechanical pulp, etc.

The shape of the wrapping paper 12 for producing the substrate 10 can be, for example, a square or a rectangle.
When wrapping the flavor source 11 in the wrapping paper 12 into a cylindrical shape, for example, an end of the wrapping paper 12 and an end of the wrapping paper 12 on the opposite side are overlapped by about 2 mm in the circumferential direction and glued together to form a cylindrical paper tube shape, into which the substrate 10 is filled. The size of the wrapping paper 12 can be determined depending on the size of the substrate 10.

A coating agent may be added to at least one of the two surfaces, the front and back, of the wrapping paper 12. There are no particular restrictions on the coating agent, but a coating agent that can form a film on the surface of the paper and reduce liquid permeability is preferred. Examples include alginic acid and its salts (e.g., sodium salts), polysaccharides such as pectin, cellulose derivatives such as ethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, and nitrocellulose, starch and its derivatives (e.g., ether derivatives such as carboxymethyl starch, hydroxyalkyl starch, and cationic starch, and ester derivatives such as starch acetate, starch phosphate, and starch octenyl succinate).

(Filter section)
The filter unit 20 is located on the second side (downstream side) of the base unit 10. The filter unit 20 has a filter 21 through which the aerosol passes and a wrapper paper 22 as an example of a wrapper member wound around the outer peripheral surface of the filter 21. The filter unit 20 is connected to the base unit 10 by being wound around the end of the second side of the base unit 10 using a connecting member 30. When a user inhales an aerosol, the aerosol generated by the flavor source 11 of the base unit 10 passes through the filter 21 and is inhaled by the user.

The filter 21 is not particularly limited as long as it contains a filter material and has the general functions of a filter, such as reducing nicotine and tar, as well as reducing unpleasant sensations such as irritation.
The filter material constituting the filter 21 is, for example, a cylindrically shaped filler made of acetate, charcoal, cellulose fiber, nonwoven fabric, pulp paper, etc. Alternatively, a paper filter filled with sheet-like pulp paper may be used.

The material of the wrapping paper 22 can be, for example, one whose main component is pulp. In addition to being made from wood pulp such as softwood pulp or hardwood pulp, the pulp can also be made by blending non-wood pulp commonly used in tobacco wrapping papers, such as flax pulp, hemp pulp, sisal pulp, and esparto. These pulps can be used alone or in combination of multiple types in any ratio. They may also contain fillers such as calcium carbonate.

The embodiment of the paper web 22 is not particularly limited, and may include one or more rows of adhesive-containing seams. The adhesive may include a hot melt adhesive, and the hot melt adhesive may further include polyvinyl alcohol.
The wrapper 22 may be either coated or uncoated, but is preferably coated with a desired material in order to provide it with strength, structural rigidity, and other functions.

The shape of the wrapping paper 22 for producing the filter portion 20 can be, for example, a square or a rectangle.
When the filter 21 is wound in the wrapping paper 22 into a cylindrical shape, for example, an end of the wrapping paper 22 and an end of the wrapping paper 22 on the opposite side are overlapped by about 2 mm in the circumferential direction and glued together to form a cylindrical paper tube shape in which the filter 21 is packed. The size of the wrapping paper 22 can be determined depending on the size of the filter part 20.
The filter unit 20 may not have the wrapping paper 22, and the connecting member 30 may be wound around the outer peripheral surface of the filter 21.

(Connecting member 30)
The connecting member 30 is wound to cover at least a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the base member 10 and at least a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the filter member 20, connecting the base member 10 and the filter member 20. The connecting member 30 according to the first embodiment is wound to cover the second end of the base member 10 and the entire filter member 20. The shape of the connecting member 30 before being wound can be, for example, a square or rectangular. When winding the connecting member 30, for example, an end of the connecting member 30 and an end of the connecting member 30 on the opposite side are overlapped by about 2 mm in the circumferential direction and glued together to form a cylindrical cardboard tube shape. The area to which glue is applied on the connecting member 30 can be, for example, the entire area of the connecting member 30. However, the area to which glue is applied on the connecting member 30 may be the entire area except for the area A1 described below. Even in this case, glue may be applied to both circumferential ends (e.g., 3 to 5 mm) of the area A1 described below. Furthermore, glue may be applied to the entire outer periphery (both ends in the circumferential direction and both ends in the centerline direction) of the connecting member 30 before it is wound, over a width of, for example, 3 to 5 mm.

The material of the connecting member 30 is not particularly limited, and examples include those primarily composed of pulp. In addition to pulp made from wood pulp such as softwood pulp or hardwood pulp, pulp may also be made by blending non-wood pulp commonly used in cigarette paper for tobacco products, such as flax pulp, hemp pulp, sisal pulp, or esparto. These pulps may be used alone or in combination of multiple types in any ratio.

In addition to the materials described above, the connecting member 30 may also contain fillers, such as calcium carbonate, to improve whiteness and opacity and increase the heating rate. In addition to the materials and fillers described above, the connecting member 30 may also contain various auxiliary agents, such as water resistance improvers including wet strength agents (WS agents) and sizing agents. These fillers may be used alone or in combination of two or more.

A coating agent may be added to at least one of the two surfaces, the front and back surfaces, of the connecting member 30. There are no particular limitations on the coating agent, but a coating agent that can form a film on the surface and reduce liquid permeability is preferred.
A portion of the outer surface of the connecting member 30 may be coated with a known lip release material. The lip release material refers to a material configured to help the lips and the connecting member 30 easily separate without causing substantial adhesion when the user holds the second end of the flavor inhalation article 1 in their mouth. The lip release material may include, for example, ethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, etc. For example, the outer surface of the connecting member 30 may be coated with the lip release material by applying an ethyl cellulose-based or methyl cellulose-based ink to the outer surface of the connecting member 30.

The connecting member 30 has through holes 33 formed therein that connect the outside to the inside. The through holes 33 are formed in multiple rows in the centerline direction, with multiple through holes 33 formed in each row in the circumferential direction. The multiple through holes 33 are formed in an area that covers 30% or more of the portion that covers the periphery of the filter section 20. In other words, the ratio of the area A1 in which the through holes 33 are formed to the total area of the area A0 that covers the periphery of the filter section 20 (= A1/A0 x 100) is 30% or more. The multiple through holes 33 are formed uniformly in the area A1.

One example of a method for forming the through holes 33 is to wrap the connecting member 30 around the wrapping paper 22 of the filter unit 20, and then irradiate the connecting member 30 with laser light. Note that in the first embodiment, the laser light is irradiated so that the through holes 33 are formed in an area covering 30% or more of the area surrounding the filter unit 20, and therefore the communication passage 40 is formed in an area covering 30% or more of the area surrounding the filter 21.

(Communication path 40)
The communication passage 40 communicates the outside and the inside of the flavor inhalation article 1. Therefore, the communication passage 40 allows air outside the flavor inhalation article 1 to flow into the inside during inhalation.
The shape of the communication passage 40 can be exemplified as a cylindrical shape, an elliptical cylindrical shape, a polygonal prism shape, a polygonal prism with rounded corners, a mortar shape, or a cone shape.
The position of the communication passage 40 in the center line direction is preferably formed in a region more than 8 mm from the end face of the filter unit 20 on the opposite side (downstream side) from the substrate unit 10. In other words, the position of the communication passage 40 in the center line direction is preferably formed in a region more than 8 mm from the end face on the mouth end side where the user holds the flavor inhalation article 1. The region 8 mm or less from the end face on the mouth end side is the region where the user is expected to hold the flavor inhalation article 1 between their lips. Therefore, by forming the communication passage 40 in a region more than 8 mm from the end face on the mouth end side, it is possible to prevent the communication passage 40 from being blocked by the lips.

The presence of the communication passage 40 that connects the outside and inside of the flavor inhalation article 1 allows air to flow from the outside into the inside of the filter section 20 when the user inhales through the flavor inhalation article 1. This makes it possible to adjust the concentration of the inhaled flavor components and aerosol.

As explained above, the flavor inhalation article 1 comprises a base member 10 having a flavor source 11, a filter 21 located downstream of the base member 10, and a connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 22 as an example of an exterior member that covers the periphery of the filter 21. The connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 22 have a communication passage 40 that connects the outside and the inside of the connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 22 in an area that covers 30% or more of the area that covers the periphery of the filter 21.

FIG. 4 is a diagram showing an example of a state in which a user holds the flavor inhalation article 1. As shown in FIG.
The flavor inhalation article 1 configured as described above can provide the user with a desired flavor with a high degree of certainty. That is, even if the user holds the connecting member 30 with their fingers at a portion more than 8 mm from the end face on the suction mouth end side as shown in Fig. 4 during inhalation, the openings 41 of all the communicating passages 40 (through holes 33) are unlikely to be blocked. Even if the region in the center line direction in which the communicating passages 40 are formed is held with the fingers and the openings 41 of some of the communicating passages 40 are blocked, the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 to all the communicating passages 40 is small.

Here, for example, if the communicating passages 40 (through holes 33) are formed in only one row in the centerline direction, and the user holds the portion where the communicating passages 40 are formed with their fingers during inhalation, the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 relative to all communicating passages 40 will increase. For example, if X% is 100%, it will become impossible to inhale the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor through the communicating passages 40 unless all of the multiple communicating passages 40 formed in a row are unblocked (in other words, if one communicating passage 40 is blocked). Furthermore, if X% is 80%, unless 80% of the multiple communication passages 40 formed in a row are unblocked (in other words, if 20% of the multiple communication passages 40 are blocked), the amount of air required to provide the desired flavor cannot be drawn in through the communication passages 40.

With the flavor inhalation article 1, even if the area in the center line direction where the communicating passages 40 are formed is held with a finger, the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 to all communicating passages 40 is small, so it is possible to inhale the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor. Furthermore, if the size in the center line direction of the finger that comes into contact with the flavor inhalation article 1 when holding it is W (for example, 5 mm), then the communicating passages 40 (through holes 33) should be formed over an area that is at least twice W. This makes it possible to reliably keep the proportion of blocked communicating passages 40 to all communicating passages 40 to less than 50%.

In the flavor inhalation article 1, the communication passage 40 is not formed in an area 8 mm or less from the end face (suction end) of the filter 21 opposite the substrate portion 10. This prevents the communication passage 40 from being blocked by biting, and allows the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor to be inhaled through the communication passage 40 with high accuracy.

Furthermore, the communicating passages 40 are not formed in the area that covers the outer peripheral surface of the base portion 10. This is for the following reason. When laser light is irradiated onto the connecting member 30 to form the communicating passages 40, if the laser light is irradiated onto the flavor source 11 of the base portion 10, the flavor source 11 may become hot and burn. Therefore, by not forming the communicating passages 40 in the area that covers the outer peripheral surface of the base portion 10, it is possible to prevent the flavor source 11 from burning.

The method for forming the communication passage 40 formed by the through-hole 33 of the connecting member 30 and the through-hole 23 of the paper wrapper 22 is not limited to a laser. For example, an electric discharge or a needle may be used.
Furthermore, when the flavor inhalation article 1 is a non-combustion heating smoking article, a cooling section for cooling the aerosol may be provided between the substrate section 10 and the filter section 20, and the connecting member 30 may be a member that connects the substrate section 10, the filter section 20, and the cooling section. The cooling section is a section formed so as to be hollow (hollow) such as a cylinder by wrapping a paper sheet around it. The material of the sheet is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, a sheet mainly composed of pulp, or a sheet mainly composed of any of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene terephthalate, polylactic acid, cellulose acetate, and aluminum foil, or any combination thereof.

Second Embodiment
FIG. 5 is a diagram showing an example of a schematic configuration of the flavor inhalation article 2 according to the second embodiment.
The flavor inhalation article 2 according to the second embodiment is different from the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment in that it has a wrapping paper 222 that corresponds to the wrapping paper 22. Hereinafter, the flavor inhalation article 2 according to the second embodiment will be described in terms of differences from the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment, and the same reference numerals will be used to designate the same parts as those in the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.

The wrapping paper 222 is made of porous paper having a plurality of pores and having breathability. Porous paper is a porous material. The air permeability of the wrapping paper 222 can be, for example, 200 Coresta units or more and 30,000 Coresta units or less. Note that "air permeability" is a value measured in accordance with ISO 2965:2009 and is expressed as the flow rate (cm 3 ) of gas passing through an area of 1 cm 2 per minute when the differential pressure between both sides of the paper is 1 kPa. One Coresta unit (1 Coresta unit, 1 C.U.) is 1 cm 3 /(min·cm 2 ) at 1 kPa.

In the flavor inhalation article 2, the through holes 33 in the connecting member 30 and the pores in the wrapping paper 222 form a communication passage 240 that connects the outside of the flavor inhalation article 2 with the filter 21 arranged inside. In other words, in the flavor inhalation article 2, after the connecting member 30 is wound around the wrapping paper 222, no through holes are formed in the wrapping paper 222. Examples of methods for forming the through holes 33 in the connecting member 30 include laser, electrical discharge, and needle. When forming the through holes 33 using a laser or electrical discharge, the amount of energy (e.g., the intensity of the laser light) can be adjusted so that no through holes are formed in the wrapping paper 222.

As explained above, the flavor inhalation article 2 comprises a base member 10 having a flavor source 11, a filter 21 located downstream of the base member 10, and a connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 222 as an example of an exterior member that covers the periphery of the filter 21. The connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 222 have a communication passage 240 that connects the outside and the inside of the connecting member 30 and wrapping paper 222 in an area that covers 30% or more of the area that covers the periphery of the filter 21.

More specifically, the flavor inhalation article 2 has a wrapping paper 222 (an example of a wrapping member) that is wrapped around the outer periphery of the filter 21 and is made of porous paper, an example of a porous material having pores, and a connecting member 30 that is wrapped around the outer periphery of the base member 10 so as to cover at least a portion of the outer periphery of the wrapping paper 222, connecting the base member 10 and the wrapping paper 222. The communication passage 240 is formed by a through-hole 33 formed in the connecting member 30 and the pores of the wrapping paper 222.

In the flavor inhalation article 2, the multiple through holes 33 of the connecting member 30 are formed in an area that covers 30% or more of the area surrounding the filter section 20. Therefore, even if the area in the center line direction where the communication passages 240 (through holes 33) are formed is held with the fingers, the proportion of blocked communication passages 240 to all communication passages 240 is small, so the amount of air required to provide the desired flavor can be inhaled.

In the flavor inhalation article 2, the connecting member 30 is wound around the wrapping paper 222 and then a through hole 33 is formed in the connecting member 30 to form the communication passage 240, but this is not particularly limited to this form. For example, the connecting member 30 with the through hole 33 formed therein may be wound around the substrate portion 10 and the filter portion 20. The method for forming the through hole 33 in the connecting member 30 before winding the connecting member 30 around the substrate portion 10 and the filter portion 20 is not particularly limited. For example, the substrate that forms the connecting member 30 may be irradiated with laser light. Alternatively, the through hole 33 may be formed in the substrate that forms the connecting member 30 using electrical discharge or a needle. Here, the connecting member 30 is formed into a cylindrical shape by, for example, overlapping an end of the connecting member 30 with an end of the connecting member 30 opposite it by about 2 mm in the circumferential direction and gluing them together, and the substrate portion 10 and the filter portion 20 are filled therein. When wrapping the connecting member 30, which has through holes 33 formed therein, around the base member 10 and the filter 21, it is desirable to avoid applying glue to the area where the through holes 33 are formed. For example, it is advisable to avoid forming through holes 33 in the overlapping areas at both circumferential ends of the connecting member 30. This allows for a high degree of accuracy in forming through holes 33 in an area covering 30% or more of the area surrounding the filter 21. Alternatively, glue may be applied to the entire area except for area A1, and glue may also be applied to both circumferential ends (e.g., 3 to 5 mm) of area A1. Glue may also be applied to the entire outer periphery of the connecting member 30 before wrapping (both circumferential ends and both centerline ends), for example, over a width of 3 to 5 mm.

Furthermore, the connecting member 30 may have a ventilation portion that is a region having a plurality of pores and that is breathable, and the pores of the connecting member 30 and the pores of the wrapper paper 222 may form the communication passage 240. The ventilation portion of the connecting member 30 may be formed in an area that occupies 30% or more of the region that covers the periphery of the filter unit 20. The ventilation portion of the connecting member 30 may have an air permeability of 200 Coresta units or more and 30,000 Coresta units or less, for example. Therefore, when the connecting member 30 has a ventilation portion, for example, the ventilation portion may be formed in 30% of the region that covers the periphery of the filter unit 20, and the remaining 70% may have an air permeability of 200 Coresta units or less, for example.
Furthermore, when the connecting member 30 having the through holes 33 formed therein is wound around the substrate portion 10 and the filter portion 20, the wrapper paper 222 may not be formed from porous paper having a plurality of pores and being breathable, but may be formed with through holes before being wound around the filter 21, in a paper having an air permeability of 200 Coresta units or less. The method for forming through holes in the wrapper paper before being wound around the filter 21 is not particularly limited. For example, the through holes may be formed in the substrate that forms the wrapper paper by irradiation with laser light, electrical discharge, or needles. In such a case, the through holes may be formed only in the region A1, or may be formed throughout the entire area.
Furthermore, when the flavor inhalation article 2 is a non-combustion heating type smoking article, it may have a cooling section between the base material section 10 and the filter section 20 that cools the aerosol, and the connecting member 30 may be a member that connects the base material section 10, the filter section 20, and the cooling section.

Third Embodiment
FIG. 6 is a diagram showing an example of a schematic configuration of a flavor inhalation article 3 according to the third embodiment.
The flavor inhalation article 3 according to the third embodiment differs from the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment in that it does not include a wrapper paper 22. Below, the flavor inhalation article 3 according to the third embodiment will be described in terms of the differences from the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment, and the same reference numerals will be used to designate the same parts as the flavor inhalation article 1 according to the first embodiment, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.

The flavor inhalation article 3 comprises a base member 10, a filter 21 located downstream of the base member 10, and a connecting member 30 as an example of an exterior member that covers the periphery of the filter 21. The connecting member 30 has through holes 33 that connect the outside to the inside formed in an area of 30% or more of the part that covers the periphery of the filter 21. In the flavor inhalation article 3, the through holes 33 function as a communication passage 340 that connects the outside of the flavor inhalation article 3 with the filter 21 located inside.

Even in the flavor inhalation article 3 configured as described above, the multiple through holes 33 of the connecting member 30 are formed in an area that covers 30% or more of the area surrounding the filter section 20. Therefore, even if the area in the centerline direction where the through holes 33 are formed is held with the fingers, the proportion of blocked through holes 33 to all the through holes 33 is small, making it possible to inhale the amount of air necessary to provide the desired flavor.

In the flavor inhalation article 3, instead of forming the communication passage 340 by forming the through-holes 33 after winding the connecting member 30 around the substrate 10 and the filter 21, the communication passage 340 may be formed in advance in the substrate that serves as the base of the connecting member 30 before it is wound around the substrate 10 and the filter 21. For example, the connecting member 30 may have a ventilation portion that has a plurality of pores and is breathable, and the communication passage 340 may be formed by the pores of the connecting member 30. The ventilation portion of the connecting member 30 may be formed in 30% or more of the area surrounding the filter 21. For example, the ventilation portion may be formed in 30% of the area surrounding the filter 21, and the remaining 70% may have an air permeability of 200 Coresta units or less. Alternatively, the connecting member 30 with the through-holes 33 formed therein may be wound around the substrate 10 and the filter 21. The method of forming the through-holes 33 in the connecting member 30 before winding the connecting member 30 around the substrate 10 and the filter 21 is not particularly limited. For example, the through holes 33 may be formed in the base material that forms the connecting member 30 by irradiation with laser light, electrical discharge, or needles. When the connecting member 30 having the through holes 33 formed therein is wound around the base material 10 and the filter 21, it is desirable to avoid applying glue to the area where the through holes 33 are formed. For example, it is advisable not to form the through holes 33 in the overlapping areas at both circumferential ends of the connecting member 30. This allows for highly accurate formation of the through holes 33 in 30% or more of the area that covers the periphery of the filter 21. Alternatively, glue may be applied to the entire area except for the area A1, and glue may also be applied to both circumferential ends (e.g., 3 to 5 mm) of the area A1. Alternatively, glue may be applied to the entire outer periphery of the connecting member 30 (both circumferential ends and both centerline ends) before winding, for example, over a width of 3 to 5 mm.
Furthermore, when the flavor inhalation article 3 is a non-combustion heating type smoking article, it may have a cooling section between the base material 10 and the filter 21 that cools the aerosol, and the connecting member 30 may be a member that connects the base material 10, the filter 21, and the cooling section.
