  • the ninth disclosure is: A window glass molding attached to a side edge of a window glass on the front or rear of a vehicle, the side edge of which is arranged to overlap a pillar of a vehicle body, a head portion that covers, from the vehicle exterior, a gap formed between the window glass and a pillar glass that is arranged so that a leading edge or a trailing edge thereof overlaps with the pillar; A leg portion protruding from the back surface of the head portion and having a leg portion side locking portion, It is a window glass molding.
  • the tenth disclosure is a pillar glass disposed so that a leading edge or a trailing edge thereof overlaps with a pillar of a vehicle body; a pillar glass molding attached to at least a portion of a leading edge or a trailing edge of the pillar glass,
  • the pillar glass molding is a base portion formed along the leading edge or trailing edge of the pillar glass; a base portion side engaging portion protruding from the base portion,
  • the base-side engaging portion is for engaging with and fastening to the leg-side engaging portion of the window glass molding of the ninth disclosure.
  • This is a pillar glass assembly.
  • the leg-side engaging portion formed on the leg protruding from the back surface of the head of the window glass molding and the base-side engaging portion protruding from the base of the pillar glass molding can be fastened together, making it relatively easy to attach the window glass molding to the vehicle body. Furthermore, because the base-side engaging portion is formed on the base of the pillar glass molding, there is no need to attach clips to the vehicle body during vehicle assembly. Furthermore, because the leg-side engaging portion is formed on the leg of the window glass molding, there is no need to attach separate clips to the window glass molding during vehicle assembly. Therefore, since these clips are no longer necessary, the number of parts is reduced and the number of work processes is also reduced. Therefore, the vehicle molding structure of the first disclosure can provide a vehicle molding structure that uses a small number of parts and allows the window glass molding to be attached to the vehicle body relatively easily.
  • the vehicle molding structure disclosed in the second disclosure further achieves the effect of preventing the window glass molding from coming loose in the interior or exterior of the vehicle with a relatively simple structure by engaging the claw portions of the leg-side engaging portions formed at the tips of the legs of the window glass molding with the hook portions of the base-side engaging portions of the pillar glass molding.
  • the vehicle molding structure of the third disclosure has the additional effect of improving the appearance from the outside of the vehicle, since the covering portion at the head of the window glass molding can cover at least a portion of the exterior surface of the base portion of the pillar glass molding from the outside of the vehicle. Furthermore, the vehicle molding structure of the third disclosure also has the effect of preventing the window glass molding from being pushed too far into the vehicle when attaching it to the vehicle body, since the head of the window glass molding has a covering portion.
  • the vehicle molding structure of the fourth disclosure has the effect of the vehicle molding structure of the third disclosure, and further has the effect of improving the stability of the window glass molding attached to the vehicle body, because the head of the window glass molding is supported by the base portion of the pillar glass molding.
  • the vehicle molding structure of the fifth disclosure has the effects of the vehicle molding structure of the first or second disclosure, and further has the effect of preventing the window glass molding from being pushed excessively into the vehicle body when the window glass molding is attached to the vehicle body, because the back surface of the head of the window glass molding abuts against the protrusion formed on the base portion of the pillar glass molding. Furthermore, after the window glass molding is attached to the vehicle body, it also has the effect of restricting the movement (sagging) of the window glass molding toward the interior of the vehicle.
  • the vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure can achieve the following effect in addition to the effect of any one of the vehicle molding structures of the first to fifth disclosures.
  • the vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure employs a configuration in which the mounting body is fixed to the base portion of the pillar glass molding, so the base portion and the mounting body can be separate bodies. Therefore, the vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure can achieve the effect of making the base portion and the mounting body less likely to break even when the leg-side engaging portion and the base-side engaging portion are engaged by forming the base portion and the mounting body from different materials, for example, by forming the mounting body from a material with higher rigidity than the base portion.
  • the vehicle molding structure of the seventh disclosure has the same effects as the vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure, but also has the added effect of firmly fixing the mounting body to the base portion because a portion of the mounting body is embedded in the base portion.
  • the vehicle molding structure disclosed in the eighth disclosure in addition to the effects of the vehicle molding structure disclosed in the seventh disclosure, can further achieve the effect of securely fixing the mounting body to the base portion by embedding the arms that protrude from the body portion of the mounting body toward the pillar glass in the base portion.

This application is based on Japanese Application No. 2024-072771, filed on April 26, 2024, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

This disclosure relates to vehicle molding structures, window glass moldings, and pillar glass assemblies.

In the automotive field, a vehicle molding structure has been known in which a molding is used to seal gaps that occur between the side edges of the front or rear window glass of a vehicle and surrounding structures.

For example, Patent Document 1 discloses technology relating to a vehicle molding structure in which a molding attachment tool is used to attach a molding to the gap between the edge of a window glass and the vehicle body wall portion opposite the edge of the window glass. The technology in Patent Document 1 uses a first clip that is fixed to a stud on the vehicle body wall and a second clip that is fixed to the molding to attach the molding to the vehicle body to form a vehicle molding structure.

Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2006-15781

In recent years, in the automotive field, there has been an increasing number of cases where pillar glass is installed around the window glass on the front or rear of a vehicle. In such cases, it is necessary to create a vehicle molding structure by sealing the gap formed between the window glass on the front or rear of the vehicle, which is positioned with its side edge overlapping the vehicle body pillar, and the pillar glass, which is positioned with its leading edge or trailing edge overlapping the pillar, with a molding.

However, if the technology of Patent Document 1 is applied to constructing this type of vehicle molding structure, a first clip that is attached to the vehicle body and a separate second clip that is attached to the molding are required, resulting in a large number of parts. Furthermore, the fixing work of attaching the first clip to the vehicle body and the separate second clip to the molding becomes more involved.

This disclosure was made in consideration of these issues, and aims to provide a vehicle molding structure that allows a window glass molding to be attached to a vehicle body relatively easily using a small number of parts, as well as a window glass molding suitable for such a vehicle molding structure, and a pillar glass assembly that includes a pillar glass molding.

The tenth disclosure is
a pillar glass disposed so that a leading edge or a trailing edge thereof overlaps with a pillar of a vehicle body;
a pillar glass molding attached to at least a portion of a leading edge or a trailing edge of the pillar glass,
The pillar glass molding is
a base portion formed along the leading edge or trailing edge of the pillar glass;
a base portion side engaging portion protruding from the base portion,
The base-side engaging portion is for engaging with and fastening to the leg-side engaging portion of the window glass molding of the ninth disclosure.
This is a pillar glass assembly.

In the vehicle molding structure of the first disclosure, the leg-side engaging portion formed on the leg protruding from the back surface of the head of the window glass molding and the base-side engaging portion protruding from the base of the pillar glass molding can be fastened together, making it relatively easy to attach the window glass molding to the vehicle body.

In addition to the effects of the vehicle molding structure disclosed in the first disclosure, the vehicle molding structure disclosed in the second disclosure further achieves the effect of preventing the window glass molding from coming loose in the interior or exterior of the vehicle with a relatively simple structure by engaging the claw portions of the leg-side engaging portions formed at the tips of the legs of the window glass molding with the hook portions of the base-side engaging portions of the pillar glass molding.

In addition to the effects of the vehicle molding structures of the first and second disclosures, the vehicle molding structure of the third disclosure has the additional effect of improving the appearance from the outside of the vehicle, since the covering portion at the head of the window glass molding can cover at least a portion of the exterior surface of the base portion of the pillar glass molding from the outside of the vehicle. Furthermore, the vehicle molding structure of the third disclosure also has the effect of preventing the window glass molding from being pushed too far into the vehicle when attaching it to the vehicle body, since the head of the window glass molding has a covering portion.

The vehicle molding structure of the fourth disclosure has the effect of the vehicle molding structure of the third disclosure, and further has the effect of improving the stability of the window glass molding attached to the vehicle body, because the head of the window glass molding is supported by the base portion of the pillar glass molding.

The vehicle molding structure of the fifth disclosure has the effects of the vehicle molding structure of the first or second disclosure, and further has the effect of preventing the window glass molding from being pushed excessively into the vehicle body when the window glass molding is attached to the vehicle body, because the back surface of the head of the window glass molding abuts against the protrusion formed on the base portion of the pillar glass molding. Furthermore, after the window glass molding is attached to the vehicle body, it also has the effect of restricting the movement (sagging) of the window glass molding toward the interior of the vehicle.

The vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure can achieve the following effect in addition to the effect of any one of the vehicle molding structures of the first to fifth disclosures. The vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure employs a configuration in which the mounting body is fixed to the base portion of the pillar glass molding, so the base portion and the mounting body can be separate bodies.

The vehicle molding structure of the seventh disclosure has the same effects as the vehicle molding structure of the sixth disclosure, but also has the added effect of firmly fixing the mounting body to the base portion because a portion of the mounting body is embedded in the base portion.

The vehicle molding structure disclosed in the eighth disclosure, in addition to the effects of the vehicle molding structure disclosed in the seventh disclosure, can further achieve the effect of securely fixing the mounting body to the base portion by embedding the arms that protrude from the body portion of the mounting body toward the pillar glass in the base portion.

The window glass molding of the ninth disclosure has leg-side engaging portions formed on the legs protruding from the back surface of the head portion, and can therefore be suitably used as a window glass molding for a vehicle molding structure described in any one of the first to eighth disclosures.

In the pillar glass assembly of the tenth disclosure, the pillar glass molding has a base-side retaining portion that protrudes from the base portion, and this base-side retaining portion is intended to engage with and secure the leg-side retaining portion of the window glass molding of the ninth disclosure. Therefore, the pillar glass assembly of the tenth disclosure, together with the window glass molding of the ninth disclosure, can be suitably used as a pillar glass assembly that constitutes the vehicle molding structure described in any one of the first to eighth disclosures.

One embodiment of a vehicle molding structure, window glass molding, and pillar glass assembly will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. The following description will use an example in which the window glass is a window glass at the front of the vehicle (front window glass) and the vehicle body pillar is an A-pillar; however, the same applies when the window glass is a window glass at the rear of the vehicle (rear window glass) and the vehicle body pillar is the rearmost pillar when viewed from the side of the vehicle (the letters representing the pillars vary depending on the vehicle model).

(Embodiment 1)
A vehicle molding structure, a window glass molding, and a pillar glass assembly according to a first embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6. FIG.

(Outline of vehicle molding structure, window glass molding, and pillar glass assembly)
The vehicle molding structure 1 includes a window glass 2 on the front side of the vehicle, a window glass molding 3, a pillar glass 41, and a pillar glass molding 42.

In the vehicle molding structure 1, the window glass 2 is positioned so that its side edge overlaps the pillar 11 of the vehicle body 10. Note that in Figure 1, the pillar 11 is not shown because it is hidden by the window glass molding 3. Furthermore, in Figures 3 and 4, the pillar 11 is omitted. The window glass molding 3 is attached to the side edge of the window glass 2. The pillar glass 41 is positioned so that its front edge overlaps the pillar 11. The pillar glass molding 42 is attached to at least a portion of the front edge of the pillar glass 41. In this embodiment, a pillar glass assembly 4, in which the pillar glass molding 42 is pre-attached to at least a portion of the front edge of the pillar glass 41, is attached to the vehicle body 10.

In Figure 1, an example is shown in which the pillar glass molding 42 is attached along the entire side edge of the pillar glass 41 (around the outer periphery of the pillar glass 41). Therefore, in this embodiment, when focusing on the front edge of the pillar glass 41, it can be said that the pillar glass molding 42 is present along the entire front edge of the pillar glass 41. In Figure 1, reference numeral 101 denotes the side window glass.

The attachment of each component constituting the vehicle molding structure 1 to the vehicle body 10 can basically be carried out in the following order. First, the pillar glass assembly 4, in which the pillar glass molding 42 is integrated with the pillar glass 41, is attached to the vehicle body 10. The pillar glass 41 is a fixed type of glass that is attached to the vehicle body 10 so that it cannot be opened or closed. Next, the window glass 2, with the windshield molding 21 attached to its upper edge, is attached to the vehicle body 10. Next, the window glass molding 3 is attached to the vehicle body 10. Below, the details of each component constituting the vehicle molding structure 1 and the vehicle molding structure 1 formed by attaching these components are explained.

(Window glass molding)
2 to 6 , the window glass molding 3 has a head portion 31 and a leg portion 32. The head portion 31 is a portion that covers the gap 12 formed between the window glass 2 and the pillar glass 41 from the vehicle exterior side. The head portion 31 can be formed in an elongated shape with a predetermined length so that it can cover the gap 12 from the vehicle exterior side. Note that in this embodiment, the head portion 31 is not configured to cover the vehicle exterior surface of a base portion 421 (described later) of the pillar glass molding 42 from the vehicle exterior side.

The leg portion 32 protrudes from the rear surface (interior surface) of the head portion 31. In this embodiment, the leg portion 32 protrudes from the rear surface at the rear edge of the head portion 31 toward the interior of the vehicle. The side end surface of the leg portion 32 on the base portion 421 side is configured to abut against the front end surface of the base portion 421. The window glass molding 3 may have multiple leg portions 32. The leg portions 32 may be arranged spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction of the head portion 31.

The leg 32 has a leg-side locking portion 321. In this embodiment, the leg-side locking portion 321 can have a claw portion 322 formed at the tip of the leg 32. The claw portion 322 can be configured as a protrusion that protrudes toward the front (toward the window glass 2) at the tip of the leg 32.

The head portion 31 and the leg portion 32 form the main body of the window glass molding 3. In addition to the head portion 31 and leg portion 32 that form the main body, the window glass molding 3 may also have a glass abutment portion 33 at the front edge of the head portion 31 that abuts against the exterior surface of the window glass 2. In this embodiment, the window glass 2 has a dam portion 22 formed on the interior surface of the side edge to block urethane sealer (not shown).

Preferred polymer materials for forming the head 31 and leg 32 include acrylonitrile ethylene propylene styrene resin (AES resin) and acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylic ester resin (ASA resin). Furthermore, preferred polymer materials for forming the glass contact portion 33 include olefin-based thermoplastic elastomers and vinyl chloride resins, which are softer than the polymer materials used for the head 31 and leg 32. Furthermore, preferred polymer materials for forming the dam portion 22 include rubber materials.

The window glass molding 3 can be formed, for example, by first forming the head 31 and leg 32 that make up the main body by injection molding, then inserting this into an injection molding die, and then injecting a polymer material onto the tip edge of the head 31 to form the glass contact portion 33.

(Pillar glass molding, pillar glass assembly)
2 to 6 , the pillar glass molding 42 has a base portion 421 and a base portion-side engaging portion 422. The base portion 421 has at least a portion formed to fit along the front edge of the pillar glass 41. The base portion 421 may also have a portion formed to fit along the outer peripheral edge of the pillar glass 41 other than the front edge. The base portion 421 can be integrated with the exterior surface of the front edge of the pillar glass 41 and the front end face of the pillar glass 41.

The base-side engaging portion 422 protrudes from the base portion 421 along the front edge of the pillar glass 41. In this embodiment, the base-side engaging portion 422 protrudes forward from the front end surface of the base portion 421. The pillar glass molding 42 may have multiple base-side engaging portions 422. The base-side engaging portions 422 may be arranged spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction of the base portion 421. The base-side engaging portions 422 are intended to engage with and secure the leg-side engaging portions 321 of the window glass molding 3. Therefore, in this embodiment, each base-side engaging portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42 may be arranged to correspond one-to-one to each leg 32 of the window glass molding 3.

In this embodiment, the base-side locking portion 422 can have a hook portion 423 that locks the claw portion 322 of the leg-side locking portion 321 in the interior/exterior direction. Specifically, the base-side locking portion 422 has a through-hole 424 that penetrates in the exterior and interior directions of the vehicle and into which the leg 32 is inserted, and the hook portion 423 can be located around the opening of this through-hole 424 on the interior side of the vehicle.

Furthermore, in this embodiment, the base portion 421 can have a protrusion 421a that abuts against the back surface of the head portion 31 of the window glass molding 3. Specifically, the protrusion 421a can be formed so as to protrude forward from the front end surface of the base portion 421. The base portion 421 can have a plurality of protrusions 421a. The protrusions 421a can be arranged between the base portion side engaging portions 422 while being spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction of the base portion 421.

Preferred polymer materials for forming the pillar glass molding 42 include various thermoplastic elastomers and vinyl chloride resins.

The pillar glass molding 42 can be formed, for example, by inserting the pillar glass 41 into an injection molding die and then injection molding a polymer material onto the outer peripheral edge of the pillar glass 41. This also makes it possible to form a pillar glass assembly 4 in which the pillar glass molding 42 is integrated with the pillar glass 41.

(Vehicle molding structure)
In the vehicle molding structure 1, as shown in Figures 2, 4, 5, etc., the leg-side locking portion 321 of the window glass molding 3 and the base-side locking portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42 engage with each other and are fastened.

Specifically, in this embodiment, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, the leg portion 32 of the window glass molding 3 is inserted into the through-hole 424 formed in the base-side locking portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42, and as shown in Figures 4 and 5, the claw portion 322 formed at the tip of the leg portion 32 engages with the hook portion 423 and is secured. This causes the leg-side locking portion 321 and the base-side locking portion 422 to engage with each other and secure the window glass molding 3, restricting movement of the window glass molding 3 toward the outside of the vehicle.

Therefore, the vehicle molding structure 1, window glass molding 3, and pillar glass assembly 4 of this embodiment can achieve the following effects. That is, according to this embodiment, the window glass molding 3 can be attached to the vehicle body 10 relatively easily. Furthermore, because the base portion-side engaging portion 422 is formed on the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42, there is no need to attach a clip to the vehicle body 10 during vehicle assembly. Furthermore, because the leg portion 32 of the window glass molding 3 is formed with the leg portion 321, there is no need to attach a separate clip to the window glass molding 3 during vehicle assembly. Therefore, since these clips are no longer necessary, the number of parts and the number of work processes are reduced. Therefore, according to this embodiment, the window glass molding 3 can be attached to the vehicle body 10 relatively easily with a small number of parts.

Furthermore, in this embodiment, the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42 has a protrusion 421a, which abuts against the back surface of the head portion 31 of the window glass molding 3, preventing the window glass molding 3 from being pushed excessively into the vehicle body 10 when attaching the window glass molding 3 to the vehicle body 10. Furthermore, after the window glass molding 3 is attached to the vehicle body 10, it is also possible to restrict movement (sagging) of the window glass molding 3 toward the interior of the vehicle.

(Embodiment 2)
A vehicle molding structure, a window glass molding, and a pillar glass assembly according to a second embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 7 to 10. In Figures 7 and 9, a portion of the head of the window glass molding is omitted to clearly show the engagement portion between the leg-side engaging portion of the window glass molding and the base-side engaging portion of the pillar glass molding. Also, in Figure 9, the pillar is omitted. Furthermore, of the reference numerals used in the second and subsequent embodiments, the same reference numerals as those used in the previous embodiments represent the same components as those in the previous embodiments, unless otherwise specified.

In the vehicle molding structure 1 and pillar glass assembly 4 of this embodiment, the pillar glass molding 42 has a base portion 421 and an attachment body 425. The polymer material forming the base portion 421 is preferably softer than the leg-side engaging portion 321 of the window glass molding 3, as it comes into contact with the pillar glass 41 and connects the pillar glass 41 to the attachment body 425. Specifically, a thermoplastic elastomer, polyvinyl chloride resin, or the like is preferred.

The mounting body 425 is fixed to the base portion 421. The mounting body 425 has a base portion-side locking portion 422. Specifically, the mounting body 425 can be configured such that a portion of the mounting body 425 is embedded in the base portion 421, with the base portion-side locking portion 422 exposed to the outside.

The mounting body 425 has a body portion 425a, an arm portion 425b, and a base-side locking portion 422. The body portion 425a is the portion that forms the main body of the mounting body 425. In this example, the body portion 425a is formed in the shape of a roughly rectangular plate.

The arm portion 425b is embedded in the base portion 421 and is formed so as to protrude from the body portion 425a towards the pillar glass 41. Here, an example is shown in which the arm portion 425b is formed so as to protrude from the inner edge of the body portion 425a towards the pillar glass 41. Also, an example is shown in which the arm portion 425b is formed in the shape of a substantially rectangular plate. Although not shown, the arm portion 425b may be formed so as to protrude from the outer edge of the body portion 425a towards the pillar glass 41, rather than from the inner edge of the body portion 425a.

Furthermore, from the standpoint of increasing the bonding strength between the mounting body 425 and the base portion 421, the arm portion 425b can have an anchor portion 425b3 in which part of the polymer material forming the base portion 421 penetrates into a part of the arm portion 425b. Here, an example is shown in which the anchor portion 425b3 is formed from a groove portion, but the anchor portion 425b3 can also be formed from a hole that passes through the arm portion 425b or a non-passing hole.

The base-side engaging portion 422 of the mounting body 425 is a portion that is not embedded in the base portion 421, and is formed to protrude from the body portion 425a on the side opposite the pillar glass 41. Specifically, the base-side engaging portion 422 has an inner wall portion 422a, an outer wall portion 422b, and a connecting portion 422c. The inner wall portion 422a extends from the inner-side edge of the body portion 425a toward the interior of the vehicle. The outer wall portion 422b is positioned in front of the inner wall portion 422a and spaced apart from the inner wall portion 422a, and faces the inner wall portion 422a. Therefore, a space S is present between the inner wall portion 422a and the outer wall portion 422b. The connecting portion 422c connects the inner-side edge of the inner wall portion 422a to the inner-side edge of the outer wall portion 422b. The base-side locking portion 422 has a generally U-shaped cross section. The outer wall portion 422b has a claw portion 422b1 at its tip that faces the inner wall portion 422a.

In this embodiment, the polymer material forming the base portion 421 and the polymer material forming the mounting body 425 can be different. For example, it is preferable to use a polymer material that is more rigid than the base portion 421 as the polymer material forming the mounting body 425. In this case, when the base portion side engaging portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42 and the leg portion side engaging portion 321 of the window glass molding 3 engage, it is easier to prevent cracking and deformation of the engaging portion. The level of rigidity can be compared using the Young's modulus of the material. More specifically, examples of the polymer material forming at least the base portion side engaging portion 422 of the mounting body 425 include POM (polyacetal) and PBT (polybutylene terephthalate). It is also possible to use a less crack-resistant material such as POM or PBT as the polymer material forming the base portion side engaging portion 422, and form the body portion 425a and arm portion 425b from other polymer materials. Additionally, the material forming the mounting body 425, base portion 421, and base portion side locking portion 422 can also be a metal material.

The pillar glass assembly 4 can be formed by inserting the pillar glass 41 and the mounting body 425 into an injection molding die and then injection molding a polymer material onto the outer peripheral edge of the pillar glass 41.

In the window glass molding 3 of this embodiment, the leg-side engaging portion 321 of the leg 32 can have a hook portion 323 that engages the claw portion 422b1 of the base-side engaging portion 422 formed on the mounting body 425 in the interior/exterior direction of the vehicle. Specifically, the leg-side engaging portion 321 has a through-hole 324 that penetrates in the front-rear direction, and the hook portion 323 can be provided on the front opening edge of this through-hole 324.

In this embodiment, as shown in Figures 7 and 8, the leg portion 32 of the window glass molding 3 is inserted into the space S formed in the base-side locking portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42, and as shown in Figure 9, the claw portion 422b1 formed on the base-side locking portion 422 engages with the hook portion 323 formed on the leg-side locking portion 321 to secure it. This causes the leg-side locking portion 321 and the base-side locking portion 422 to engage with each other and lock in place, restricting movement of the window glass molding 3 toward the outside of the vehicle.

Therefore, the vehicle molding structure 1, window glass molding 3, and pillar glass assembly 4 of this embodiment can provide a vehicle molding structure 1 in which the window glass molding 3 can be attached to the vehicle body relatively easily with a small number of parts, a window glass molding 3 suitable for the vehicle molding structure 1, and a pillar glass assembly 4 having a pillar glass molding 42.

In this embodiment, an example is shown in which the mounting body 425 in the pillar glass molding 42 and pillar glass assembly 4 has the arm portion 425b, but it is also possible to configure the mounting body 425 without the arm portion 425b to be fixed to the base portion 421.

Other configurations and effects are the same as in embodiment 1, and the descriptions of other embodiments can also be referred to as appropriate.

(Embodiment 3)
The vehicle molding structure, window glass molding, and pillar glass assembly of the third embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 11 to 14. In Figures 11 and 13, a portion of the head of the window glass molding is omitted to make it easier to see the engagement portion between the leg-side engaging portion of the window glass molding and the base-side engaging portion of the pillar glass molding. Also, in Figure 13, the pillar is omitted.

In the vehicle molding structure 1 and pillar glass assembly 4 of this embodiment, the pillar glass molding 42 has a base portion 421 and a mounting body 425, similar to the vehicle molding structure 1 and pillar glass assembly 4 of embodiment 2. However, the configuration of the mounting body 425 differs from that of embodiment 2.

In this embodiment, the mounting body 425 has a body portion 425a, an arm portion 425b, and a base portion-side engaging portion 422. The arm portion 425b is composed of a first arm portion 425b1 and a second arm portion 425b2. The first arm portion 425b1 is formed so as to protrude from the inner edge of the body portion 425a toward the pillar glass 41. On the other hand, the second arm portion 425b2 is formed so as to protrude from the outer edge of the body portion 425a toward the pillar glass 41. Note that Figure 14 and other figures show an example in which both the first arm portion 425b1 and the second arm portion 425b2 are formed in the shape of a substantially rectangular plate.

It is preferable that the distance X between the first arm 425b1 and the second arm 425b2 is set to be greater than the thickness Y of the pillar glass 41. In this case, even if there is variation in the thickness of the pillar glass 41, it becomes easier to position the pillar glass 41 between the first arm 425b1 and the second arm 425b2.

The base-side engaging portion 422 is a portion that is not embedded in the base portion 421, and is formed to protrude from the body portion 425a on the side opposite the pillar glass 41. Specifically, the base-side engaging portion 422 has a pair of side wall portions 422d and a connecting portion 422e. The pair of side wall portions 422d extend forward from both side edges of the body portion 425a. The connecting portion 422e connects the tips of the pair of side wall portions 422d. A through hole 424 is formed in the base-side engaging portion 422 by being surrounded by the body portion 425a, one side wall portion 422d, the connecting portion 422e, and the other side wall portion 422d. The leg portion 32 of the window glass molding 3 is inserted into this through hole 424. The inside edge of the connecting portion 422e serves as a hook portion 423 that engages the claw portion 322 of the leg-side engaging portion 321 in the vehicle interior and exterior directions.

In this embodiment, as shown in Figures 11 and 12, the leg portion 32 of the window glass molding 3 is inserted into the through-hole 424 of the base-side locking portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42, and as shown in Figure 13, the claw portion 322 formed on the leg-side locking portion 321 engages with the hook portion 423 formed on the base-side locking portion 422 to secure it.

Furthermore, in this embodiment, because the mounting body 425 has the first arm 425b1 and the second arm 425b2, the mounting body 425 can be attached in advance to a predetermined position on the pillar glass 41 so that the pillar glass 41 is sandwiched between the first arm 425b1 and the second arm 425b2, and then inserted into an injection molding die for injection molding. Therefore, in this case, the productivity of the pillar glass assembly 4 can be improved compared to when the pillar glass 41 and the mounting body 425 are separately inserted into an injection molding die for injection molding.

Other configurations and effects are the same as those of embodiments 1 and 2, and the descriptions of other embodiments can also be referred to as appropriate.

(Embodiment 4)
A vehicle molding structure, a window glass molding, and a pillar glass assembly according to the fourth embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 15 and 16. Note that the pillars of the vehicle body 10 are omitted in Figures 15 and 16.

In the vehicle molding structure 1 and window glass molding 3 of this embodiment, the head 31 of the window glass molding 3 has a covering portion 311. The covering portion 311 is intended to cover at least a portion of the exterior surface of the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42 from the exterior of the vehicle. Note that in Figures 15 and 16, the reference numeral 312 on the head 31 denotes a cavity formed when gas-assisted injection molding is used to form the window glass molding 3 so that shrinkage (sink marks) does not occur even if the base end portion of the leg portion 32 is formed thick.

Furthermore, in the vehicle molding structure 1 of this embodiment, the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42 may or may not support the head portion 31 of the window glass molding 3. Figure 15 shows an example in which the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42 abuts against the back surface of the cover portion 311 of the head portion 31 of the window glass molding 3, supporting the cover portion 311. The back surface of the cover portion 311 of the head portion 31 may also abut against the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42 via a buffer material 5 such as nonwoven fabric. In this way, the cover portion 311 of the head portion 31 of the window glass molding 3 covers part of the exterior surface of the base portion 421 of the pillar glass molding 42 from the exterior of the vehicle, thereby improving the appearance from the exterior of the vehicle. Furthermore, this prevents the window glass molding 3 from being pushed excessively into the vehicle when attaching the window glass molding 3 to the vehicle body 10.

Furthermore, in the vehicle molding structure 1 and pillar glass assembly 4 of this embodiment, the pillar glass molding 42 has a base portion 421 and a mounting body 425, similar to the vehicle molding structure 1 and pillar glass assembly 4 of embodiment 3. However, the configuration of the base portion-side engaging portion 422 of the mounting body 425 differs from that of embodiment 3.

In this embodiment, as shown in Figure 16, the base-side locking portion 422 is formed in a shape that allows it to come into contact with the tip of a jig 9 inserted between the window glass 2 and the head 31 of the window glass molding 3, along the exterior surface of the window glass 2 that constitutes the vehicle molding structure 1. Furthermore, the base-side locking portion 422 is formed to be elastically deformable so that the pressing force from the tip of the jig 9 releases the state in which the leg-side locking portion 321 and the base-side locking portion 422 are engaged with each other and secured.

In this embodiment, by inserting the leg portion 32 of the window glass molding 3 into the through-hole 424 of the base-side locking portion 422 of the pillar glass molding 42, the claw portion 322 formed on the leg-side locking portion 321 engages with the hook portion 423 formed on the base-side locking portion 422, as shown in Figure 15. This causes the leg-side locking portion 321 and the base-side locking portion 422 to engage with each other and lock, restricting movement of the window glass molding 3 toward the outside of the vehicle.

Furthermore, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 16, once the vehicle molding structure 1 has been formed, a jig 9 is inserted between the window glass 2 and the head 31 of the window glass molding 3 along the exterior surface of the window glass 2. The tip of the jig 9 is brought into contact with the base-side retaining portion 422, and then the jig 9 is further pressed in. The pressing force of the tip of the jig 9 elastically deforms the base-side retaining portion 422, releasing the state in which the leg-side retaining portion 321 and the base-side retaining portion 422 are engaged with each other, allowing the window glass molding 3 to be easily removed. Therefore, this embodiment provides a vehicle molding structure 1 in which the window glass molding 3 can be easily replaced (exchanged).

Other configurations and effects are the same as those of embodiments 1 to 3, and the descriptions of other embodiments can also be referenced as appropriate.

In the vehicle molding structure 1 and pillar glass assembly 4 of the first embodiment described above, an example was shown in which the base-side engaging portion 422 was formed directly on the base portion 421 without using the mounting body 425. However, the base-side engaging portion 422 formed directly on the base portion 421 may also be formed to be elastically deformable using a jig 9, as shown in this embodiment.

This disclosure is not limited to the above embodiments, and various modifications are possible without departing from the spirit of the disclosure.

For example, in embodiments 2 and 3, the mounting body is integrated with the base portion by inserting the mounting body into an injection molding die and then injection molding the base portion, but the mounting body and base portion may also be integrated using other methods.

For example, although not shown, it is possible to form a clip-shaped portion integrally with the mounting body, form a hole in the base portion through which the clip-shaped portion passes, and secure the mounting body to the base portion by fitting the clip-shaped portion of the mounting body into the hole in the base portion. Alternatively, a hole through which the clip passes may be formed in the mounting body or base portion, and the mounting body may be secured to the base portion with a separate clip. Furthermore, the mounting body can also be secured to the base portion by crimping, welding, riveting, etc. In these cases, it is not necessary to form an arm portion on the mounting body.
