Abstract
Insect screen systems with cords bearing ceramic components to reduce friction. These components consist of either traditional or advanced ceramic materials or ceramic alloys, and by reducing friction with the cords, a long lifespan of the insect screen systems is achieved.
Description
TITLE: INSECT SCREEN SYSTEMS WITH CORDS BEARING
CERAMIC COMPONENTS TO REDUCE FRICTION
PATENT DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to the technology of covers used in building openings, to prevent the entry of insects, vermin, rodents, leaves, small animals, gravel, etc., whilst at the same time it offers protection against solar radiation (DE 3730944 Al). These covers are known in the market as insect screens. An insect screen consists firstly, of the material that deters insects etc. from entering and is called net or mesh and which can be made of various materials (metal, polymer or composite), suitably processed in order to ensure the best possible optical transparency, ventilation, increased life span, aesthetics, etc, Secondly, the frame on which the net is fitted, which should allow the proper adjustment of the net (fixed or as a guide), offer mechanical resistance and aesthetics and can be made of metal, plastic (polymer), wood or a composite material suitably processed. Thirdly, the components enabling the opening and/or closing and/or returning of the net, so that people can pass through or objects can be moved for a short or long period of time.
The scope of this invention refers mainly to insect screen systems which bear a pleated or straight net/mesh, with cords backing this net/ mesh and assisting its alignment.
When these insect screens are used, their cords touch various surfaces and usually rub against plastic gaskets, slides, plugs, pulleys or wheels (Drawing 01. and 02). A common phenomenon during the life cycle of the insect screens is that due to factors such as dust in the environment, unclean water, salt fog and atmospheric pollution, dirt, water, dust, soil, salt, garbage from the surrounding area, such as pet hair and other pollutants penetrate the cords, and distress them as well as change their composition and geometry. As a result, the coefficient of friction between the cords and the gaskets, wheels, etc. of the system, is not the appropriate one and increases excessively, leading either to breakage of the cords or to gradual cutting or tearing of the gaskets through friction, making the entire insect screen system inoperable or hard to use.
In this context, the term "cord" includes ropes, tapes, threads, belts but also generally, any carrier of motion transmission or mechanical support that is subject to wear through friction, made of any material and of any geometric composition.
By this invention, in the above gaskets, slides, plugs, pulleys or wheels or in any other various surfaces that come in contact with the cords of the insect screen system, components made of ceramic material are implanted or coated, resulting into a remarkable reduction In friction due to the low coefficient of friction presented by ceramic materials (Drawing 03, 04 and 05). As a result, the cords wear out at a much slower rate, the gaskets and all surfaces are not stressed since they are protected by the
ceramic material, and the quality of operation of the insect screen system is improved. The material of the above components is ceramic, which may be part of the category of traditional ceramics or of the category of advanced ceramics or consist of ceramic alloys. These ceramic components may have been subjected to glazing and/or smoothing and may replace the entire gasket, plug, slide, pulley or wheel, whether fully or partly. They may also be placed and provide support at any point in the system for an insect screen that bears cords.
Claims
1. An insect screen system bearing cords, which touch surfaces of components such as gaskets, slides, plugs, pulleys or wheels, and said components are distinguished for containing ceramic materials.
2. An insect screen system according to claim 1, where said components are entirely made of ceramic materials.
3. An insect screen system according to ciaim 1, where said components are coated with ceramic materials.
4. An insect screen system according to claim 1, where only parts of said components comprise ceramic materials.
5. An insect screen system according to claims 1-4, where the ceramic materials may be either traditional or advanced, or constitute an alloy of ceramic materials.
6. An insect screen system according to claims 1-5, wherein the surface of the ceramic materials has undergone a smoothing and/or glazing process.
7. An insect screen system according to claims 1-6, which has components made of ceramic materials and which (system) bears thin ropes, narrow strips, threads, belts and generally, any motion transmission carrier or mechanical support carrier that is subject to wear through friction.
