(Barrier paper)
The barrier paper 6 is a paper material in which a barrier coating layer is formed on at least one side of a base paper. In this embodiment, the barrier coating layer is formed on the entire back surface of the barrier paper 6. The barrier coating layer is formed from a coating material containing a specific polymer, such as an olefin-based, acrylic-based, silicone-based, or fluorine-based resin, and has specific barrier properties. Note that the amount of water vapor in a tobacco article may change the smoking taste. To avoid this, the water vapor permeability of the barrier paper 6 is preferably 20 g/m 2 ·day or less, more preferably 9 g/m 2 ·day or less, and even more preferably 7 g/m 2 ·day or less. The coating weight of the coating material is, for example, 8 gsm (g/m 2 ) or more. The coating weight of the coating material is, for example, 11 gsm or less. The barrier coating layer may have heat-sealing properties that allow it to be welded by heating.

It is preferable that the substrate on which the barrier coat layer is formed has high smoothness. By improving smoothness, a uniform barrier coat layer can be formed, and the amount of coating material required to achieve the desired barrier properties can be reduced. To seal the substrate and improve smoothness, a clay coat layer or anchor varnish layer may be formed between the substrate and the barrier coat layer. The clay coat layer can be formed, for example, by applying a coating liquid in which clay and a water-dispersible polymer are dispersed in a medium to the substrate and then drying. The anchor varnish layer can be formed by applying a general anchor varnish.
A design 68 of the package 12 may be printed on at least a portion of the surface of the barrier paper 6. The design 68 may include health warnings. Furthermore, a heat seal layer coated with a heat seal agent may be formed on at least a portion of the surface of the barrier paper 6. The heat seal agent may be, for example, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyurethane, polyolefin, rosin ester, resin hot melt adhesive, polyamide, polyester, etc. The heat seal agent can improve the adhesiveness of the barrier paper 6. Each layer, including the barrier coat layer, may be formed on the substrate using an existing coater machine, or may be formed on the substrate using a printing method such as gravure printing, offset printing, or flexographic printing.
Figure 3 shows an example of a blank before the barrier paper 6 is folded into a rectangular parallelepiped. The direction in which the area of the blank B6 that will form the top surface 65 after folding is located is referred to as the upside, and for convenience, these will be referred to as the upside, downside, leftside, and rightside. The surface that will become the outside of the package is referred to as the front side of the blank, and the surface that will become the inside of the package is referred to as the back side of the blank. Blank B6 in Figure 3 represents the surface of barrier paper 6 that has been punched out for one package. For example, the above-mentioned layers have been formed in advance in specified areas, and blank B6 is punched out from base paper that has been wound into a roll. The base paper is aligned and cut based on register marks (eye marks) so that printing, heat sealing agent, etc. are positioned in the desired positions on blank B6 for one package. In other words, register marks, which are crop marks or specified shapes, are attached to the base paper.
The blank B6 is rectangular in its punched state (in other words, its unfolded state before folding). The dashed-dotted line in Figure 3 indicates the fold line along which the contents 11 are folded to form a mountain fold when packaging the contents 11. The hatched areas in Figure 3 may be coated with varnish to protect the printing on the barrier paper 6. Note that a predetermined printing may be applied between the varnish and the base material. The white areas in Figure 3 (unhatched areas) may also have a heat seal layer formed thereon. The heat seal layer is preferably formed in the area where the front and back of the barrier paper 6 are overlapped during caramel packaging (in other words, in the area not exposed on the outer surface of the tobacco product 1), but may also be formed in an area exposed on the outer surface of the tobacco product 1. The two-dot dashed line in blank B6 indicates the position where tear tape 67 is affixed, for example, to the back surface of the barrier paper.
Blank B6 is divided by a fold line shown by a dashed dotted line and includes a front region 610 that forms the front side when packaged, a back region 620 that forms the back side 62, a left side region 630 that forms the left side, right side regions 641 and 642 that form the right side, top regions 651 to 659 that form the top side 65, and bottom regions 661 to 669 that form the bottom. As shown in FIG. 3 , from left to right, the right side region 642, back region 620, left side region 630, front region 610, and right side region 641 are connected in this order. Top regions 657 and 653 are trapezoidal regions connected above the front region 610 and back region 620, respectively. Top regions 651, 655, and 659 are rectangular regions connected above the right side region 642, left side region 630, and right side region 641, respectively. Furthermore, triangularly folded top regions 652, 654, 656, and 658 are connected between top regions 651, 653, 655, 657, and 659, respectively. Similarly, bottom regions 667 and 663 are trapezoidal regions connected downward to front region 610 and back region 620, respectively. Bottom regions 661, 665, and 669 are rectangular regions connected downward to right side region 642, left side region 630, and right side region 641, respectively. Furthermore, triangularly folded bottom regions 662, 664, 666, and 668 are connected between bottom regions 661, 663, 665, 667, and 669, respectively.
(packaging)
Figure 4 is a diagram illustrating the folding of the bottom of the barrier paper 6. (A) shown in the upper part of Figure 4 shows the state in which the barrier paper 6 has been used to wrap the front, left and right sides, and back of the contents 11, and then the bottom areas 661, 665, and 669 of the barrier paper 6 have been folded in. At this time, the bottom areas 662 and 664 are folded over the bottom area 663, and the bottom areas 666 and 668 are folded over the bottom area 667, and for example, the barrier material coated on the back of the barrier paper 6 in each of the folded areas is bonded together by heat sealing.
(B) shown in the second row of Figure 4 shows the state in which the bottom area 667 of the barrier paper 6 has been further folded in. The bottom area 666 shown in (A) of Figure 4 overlaps with part of the bottom area 665, and the bottom area 668 overlaps with part of the bottom area 669, with the heat sealant on each surface bonding them together.
(C) shown in the third row of Figure 4 shows the state in which bottom region 663 of barrier paper 6 has been further folded. Bottom region 664 shown in Figure 4(B) overlaps parts of bottom regions 665 and 667, and bottom region 662 overlaps parts of bottom regions 661, 667, and 669. The vertical length (front-to-back direction in Figure 4) of trapezoidal bottom regions 663 and 667 is greater than half the length of the short side of the bottom of the package, and bottom region 663 and bottom region 667 overlap near the centre of the bottom. The heat-sealing agents applied to the surfaces of the folded bottom regions are then bonded together, or the heat-sealing agent and barrier material are bonded together, by heat sealing.
In this way, the barrier paper 6 can seal the contents 11. The barrier paper 6 can be heat-sealed using a packaging machine that uses conventional outer film wrappers. This means that the adhesive portion of the barrier paper 6 is the same as that of conventional outer film wrappers, allowing the tobacco product 1 to be manufactured without significant modifications to conventional cigarette manufacturing machines. Heat sealing may be performed using a coating material to form the barrier coat layer described above, or by providing an additional heat seal layer. The heat seal layer can improve the adhesiveness of the barrier paper 6. The thinner the substrate of the barrier paper 6, the better its thermal conductivity, shortening the time required for heat sealing by the manufacturing machine. However, if the substrate is too thin, it can be difficult to handle with existing packaging machines. The basis weight of the substrate is preferably 25 gsm or more and 60 gsm or less.
(printing base)
If the base material has the above-mentioned basis weight, the design applied to the contained item 11 can be seen through the barrier paper 6. For example, management information such as the manufacturing date can be written on the contained item 11 so that it can be seen through the barrier paper 6. However, even if the barrier paper 6 is translucent, the visibility and readability of the design applied to the contained item 11 will be reduced because it is covered by the barrier paper 6. Therefore, as described above, a predetermined design can be applied to the surface of the barrier paper 6. When printing on the surface of the barrier paper 6, a base layer can be further formed to improve the opacity (concealment) of the barrier paper 6.
Figure 5 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the barrier paper 6. The front side of the barrier paper 6 is located outside the tobacco product 1, and the back side is in contact with the contents 11. The barrier paper 6 is partially folded over at the right side 64, top surface 65, and bottom surface 66 shown in Figures 1 and 2. The barrier paper 6 includes a substrate 600, a barrier coat layer 601, heat seal layers 602 and 603, a printing layer 681, a base layer 682, and a protective layer 683. The heat seal layer 602, the printing layer 681, the base layer 682, and the protective layer 683 may be formed only partially, rather than entirely, on the barrier paper 6.
The substrate 600 is a cellulose layer primarily containing cellulose. A design 68 is applied to the front side of the substrate 600. The design 68 includes a printing layer 681 on which characters, figures, etc. are printed using an existing pigment-containing ink; a base layer 682 formed like an anchor coating under the printing layer 681; and a protective layer 683 formed on the printing layer 681. The base layer 682 may be a colored ink, such as white, or a specified opacifying agent. The opacifying agent suppresses transparency and improves concealment. By providing the base layer 682, the visibility and readability of the printing layer 681 can be improved, even if a design is applied to the surface of the contained item 11. The protective layer 683 is formed of a varnish, such as an existing overprint (OP) varnish or a UV-curable varnish. The protective layer 683 protects the printing layer 681 and prevents color fading. A barrier coat layer 601 with barrier properties is formed on the back side of the substrate 600.
(heat seal)
As shown in FIG. 5 , a heat seal layer 602 may be formed at a predetermined position on the outside of the protective layer 683. Alternatively, the design 68 may not be formed in the area where the heat seal layer 602 is to be formed, and the heat seal layer 602 may be formed on the substrate 600. As described above, the heat seal layer 602 has heat-sealing properties that allow it to be welded by heating. Providing the heat seal layer 602 improves the adhesiveness of the folded portion of the barrier paper 6. As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 , the heat seal layer may not be provided on the outer surface after caramel packaging. However, if the heat seal layer is not provided in at least the area of the outer surface after caramel packaging that faces the heater unit of the packaging machine (i.e., the area that will be bonded by heat sealing), accumulation of heat seal material on the heater unit of the packaging machine can be prevented. If the barrier coat layer 601 has heat-sealing properties, the barrier coat layer 601 can be bonded to the design 68 or the substrate 600 by heat sealing without providing the heat seal layer 602.
A heat seal layer 603 may also be formed at a predetermined position on the inside of the barrier coat layer 601. In Figures 1 and 2, the heat seal layer 603 is provided on at least a portion of the bottom side of the tear tape 67 (in other words, the side opposite the area of the barrier paper 6 that is removed when opening). By providing the heat seal layer 603, the barrier paper 6 and the contents 11 are bonded together, preventing the barrier paper 6 from falling off. By providing the heat seal layer 603 on, for example, the right side 64 or bottom 66, existing packaging machines that heat seal caramel packaging can be manufactured without modifying them. On the other hand, providing the heat seal layer 603 on areas where the barrier paper 6 does not overlap, such as the front 61, back 62, or left side 63, facilitates adhesion to the heat seal layer 603.
6. The heat seal layer 603 may also be provided along the tear tape 67, near the bottom side of the tear tape 67. Figure 6 is a diagram illustrating an adhesive region 69 where the heat seal layer 603 is provided along the tear tape 67. The adhesive region 69 includes, for example, at least the hatched area between the dashed lines in Figure 6. In the example of Figure 6, the adhesive region 69 is provided under the tear tape 67 around the sides of the barrier paper 6 (i.e., the right side 64, front 61, left side 63, and back 62). When the paper substrate 600 is torn using the tear tape 67, there is a risk of the tearing occurring in an unintended direction, depending on the direction of the paper fibers. By using the heat seal layer 603 to bond the barrier paper 6 to the contents 11 along the tear tape 67, near the bottom side of the tear tape 67, the tear direction of the barrier paper 6 can be guided when the tobacco product 1 is opened. In other words, tearing away from the adhesive portion of the tear tape 67 toward the bottom side of the barrier paper 6 can be prevented. By providing an adhesive region 69 around the entire side periphery, the tearing direction can be reliably guided, and the barrier paper 6 and the contents 11 can be reliably adhered together even after opening, preventing the barrier paper 6 from falling off.
The adhesive region 69 does not have to be bonded along the entire periphery of the barrier paper 6. For example, the adhesive region 69 may be provided at least on the surface where the tear tab 671 is located (the right side surface 64). Specifically, an area 691 near the tear tab 671 may be bonded. The area 691 is a predetermined range of the right side surface 64 that faces the tearing direction from the tear tab 671 and is located near the bottom side of the tear tape 67. By guiding the tearing direction near the starting point of the opening operation, the overall direction of the operation can be appropriately controlled. Furthermore, the right side surface 64 where the tear tab 671 is provided is located in a position that can be bonded using existing manufacturing machines that perform heat sealing, so there is no need to significantly modify the manufacturing machine. Furthermore, during manufacturing, bonding the barrier paper 6 and forming the adhesive region 69 can be performed in a single heating process, which is efficient. The adhesive region 69 may also be provided on at least a portion of the front surface 61, left side surface 63, and back surface 62, or may be provided intermittently in a dashed line pattern on at least a portion of the surface.
The heat seal layer 603 may be provided on the barrier paper 6 side and heat sealed, or on the envelope 4 side and heat sealed. Instead of or in addition to heat sealing, the barrier paper 6 may be half-cut or other weakened line to guide the tearing direction. The weakened line can be formed by half-cutting the substrate 600 or the like so as not to cut the barrier coat layer 601, thereby ensuring the water vapor barrier properties of the barrier paper 6. Alternatively, the tear tape 67 may be omitted and the package may be opened using a zipper whose boundary is determined by two weakened lines.
<効果>
<Effects>
Furthermore, if the contents 11 are airtightly wrapped using the barrier paper 6, it is possible to prevent volatile components contained in the contents 2 from leaking out of the package. This eliminates the need for packaging with, for example, a plastic outer film. While typical cigarette packaging relies on the barrier properties of the outer film to prevent quality deterioration, this embodiment makes it possible to realize a sustainable packaging form that omits the outer film.
<変形例>
<Modification>
The dimensions, materials, shapes, relative positions, etc. of the components described in the embodiments are not intended to limit the technical scope of the present disclosure unless otherwise specified. Furthermore, the configurations shown in the embodiments can be combined or modified in various ways without departing from the spirit of the present disclosure.
The contents 11 may be a so-called hard package instead of a soft package.
Furthermore, in the embodiment, the portions where the front and back surfaces of the barrier paper 6 are overlapped and bonded by heat sealing may be so-called palm-to-toe bonding. In other words, the back surfaces of the barrier paper 6 may be overlapped, and the barrier coating layer 601 or heat seal layer 603 formed on each back surface may be bonded by heat sealing.
The protective layer 683 shown in Figure 5 may have heat-sealing properties that allow it to be welded by heating. In other words, the protective layer 683 may be formed from a heat-sealing agent. In this case, the heat-sealing agent is preferably a polymer that has the properties of a varnish that is relatively transparent and can protect the print, as well as heat-sealing properties. In this case, the heat-sealing agent is applied to the front side of the printed layer 681 and between the barrier papers 6 (the front side) that are overlapped when packaging the caramel. The protective layer 683 formed from the heat-sealing agent can also protect the printed layer 681. Furthermore, there is no need to further provide a heat-sealing layer 602 on top of the protective layer 683, reducing the number of manufacturing processes.
The heat seal layer 603 shown in Figure 5 may be an adhesive layer that bonds the barrier paper 6 to the contents 11 using an adhesive other than heat seal, such as glue, adhesive tape, or cold sealant. Even when an adhesive other than heat seal is used, by forming an adhesive area along and near the tear tape 67, it is possible to guide the direction in which the tear tape 67 tears the barrier paper 6.
The above-mentioned management information may be written on areas where the barrier paper 6 is not overlapping, such as the front, back, or left side. Conventionally, management information has generally been written on the bottom of the contained item 11, but in the tobacco product 1 of this embodiment, visibility is reduced in areas where the barrier paper 6 is overlapping. Therefore, if management information such as the manufacturing date is written on the contained item 11 and can be seen through the barrier paper 6, it is preferable to write it on areas where the barrier paper 6 is not overlapping.
The opacifying agent is not particularly limited, and known opacifying agents can be suitably used, including white pigments such as titanium dioxide, zinc sulfide, zinc oxide, barium sulfate, calcium carbonate, talc, or mica, and black pigments such as carbon black or complex oxide pigments. Such opacifying agents can be applied in a molten state and then cured; by applying a solution in which the opacifying agent is dissolved or dispersed in a solvent and then removing the solvent to cure; by printing using various printing methods such as flexographic printing; or by forming an extruded resin into a film. There are no particular limitations on the solvent, as long as it can dissolve or disperse the opacifying agent.
Furthermore, the above-mentioned opacifying agents may be used alone, or two or more types may be mixed in any ratio and combination. The base layer 682 may be composed of multiple layers, for example, a layer containing a black pigment may be provided on the inside of the package and a layer containing a white pigment may be provided on the outside of the package. In this way, the opacifying properties of the barrier paper 6 can be further improved and the barrier paper 6 can be made light-blocking compared to when only a layer containing a white pigment is provided as the opacifying layer.
The volume average particle diameter of the masking agent used in the material for the masking layer is not particularly limited, but is usually 0.01 μm or more, preferably 0.1 μm or more, and more preferably 0.5 μm or more, and is usually 50 μm or less, preferably 10 μm or less, and more preferably 2 μm or less. The volume average particle diameter of the masking agent used in the material for the masking layer can be obtained by measuring the masking agent as a raw material using a known method.
There are no particular restrictions on the resin used in the masking agent, and known resins can be suitably used, such as natural resins such as rosin-based resins and synthetic resins such as acrylic-based resins.
There are no particular restrictions on the ink material used in the concealing layer, as long as it can dissolve or disperse the above-mentioned concealing agent. In addition to the above-mentioned concealing agents, examples of ink materials include, but are not limited to, solvents, dispersants, viscosity modifiers, and antifoaming agents.
There are no particular restrictions on the thickness of the applied opacifying agent, but it is usually 0.1 gsm or more, preferably 1 gsm or more, and more preferably 2 gsm or more, and is usually 15 gsm or less, preferably 10 gsm or less, and more preferably 5 gsm or less. If the base layer 682 is composed of multiple layers of opacifying agent, the above thickness may be treated as the overall thickness or as the thickness of each layer.
