Field of the invention
5 The present invention relates to the field of household appliances, in particular washing machines or dishwashers.
In particular, the invention relates to a method for detecting the presence of a washing additive in the washing water, and a household appliance configured to perform such method.
Background art
As it is known, in household appliances such as dishwashers or washing machines, one or more additives are used, such as, for example, detergent, soap or fabric softener, to carry out the washing.
In household appliances such as dishwashers or washing machines, it would be advantageous to detect the presence of a washing additive in the washing water, but to date there are no devices or methods capable of performing such function.
The need is therefore felt to detect the presence of a washing additive in the washing water of a dishwasher or a washing machine.
Summary of the invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for detecting the presence of a washing additive in the washing water of a dishwasher or a washing machine.
The present invention achieves at least one of such objects, as well as other objects which will become apparent in the light of the present description, by means of a method, according to claim 1 , for detecting the presence of at least one washing additive in the washing water contained in a volume of a household appliance, in particular a dishwasher or a washing machine, wherein said volume is defined by a compartment of the household appliance or by a pump of the household appliance;
30 wherein a device is provided comprising
- at least one temperature sensor adapted to measure, in particular directly or indirectly, the temperature in said volume;
- an electronic control unit connected to said at least one sensor; wherein there are provided the steps of: a) heating the liquid in said volume by means of heating means; b) measuring, in particular directly or indirectly, the temperature in said volume by means of said at least one sensor; c) detecting, by means of the electronic control unit, the presence of washing additive in the washing water contained in said volume as a function of the trend over time of the temperature measured by means of said at least one sensor, while the liquid in said volume is heated by means of said heating means; wherein if the heating speed of the liquid is less than a predetermined heating speed or if the heating time to reach a predetermined temperature is greater than a predetermined time, the presence of washing additive in the washing water is detected.
The invention also relates to a household appliance, according to claim 4, in particular a dishwasher or a washing machine, comprising
- heating means adapted to heat the liquid in said volume;
- at least one temperature sensor adapted to measure, in particular directly or indirectly, the temperature in said volume;

Advantageously, the invention provides for using a temperature sensor to detect the presence of at least one washing additive.
Indeed, a temperature sensor can be advantageously used since the heating time depends on the presence of a washing additive in the water. In particular, if at least one washing additive is present in the water, the heating speed is lower with respect to the same amount of water without the additive, or, in other words, the heating time is longer when there is a washing additive in the water.
“Washing additive” means, in particular, an additive for washing in the field of household appliances such as dishwashers or washing machines. A washing additive may be, in particular, a detergent and/or a fabric softener and/or a soap and/or a rinse aid.
