Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sealing system for containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, said system comprising a sealing capsule adapted to be retained by a neck with retaining means.
- This system enables quick opening and closing of containers that contain a sealing capsule adapted to be retained by a neck with retaining means, where the rapid opening and closing movement of the capsule is made manually by rotating it clockwise or counterclockwise, so it does not require the use of any type of tool to open it, such as, for example, a corkscrew.
- the described sealing system is appropriate for all types of liquids, namely beverages, with or without gas, or edible oils and olive oils, and can be used, for example, in the beverage industry, both in the alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverage categories, as well as in the edible oil and olive oil production industry.
- sealing systems for containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids are known from the state of the art, allowing the rapid opening and closing of these containers and the sealing of the liquid inside. They generally consist of a capsule, stopper or cap adapted to be retained on the necks of said containers, by means of a screw thread or press-fit mechanism, for example, and are commonly used in the beverage industry, both for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as in the production of edible oils and olive oil.
- Document US4257526 discloses an improved beverage bottle finish and a pressure sealing closure thereof, wherein the beverage bottle finish is of the kind having a cylindrical shape with an open mouth at the upper axial end thereof.
- the closure has a circular base adapted to fit over the bottle mouth, comprising an outer skirt that fits over retaining fingers on the outer surface of the bottle finish, and an inner skirt contacting the inner side of the bottle mouth, helping to prevent pressure loss. This makes it a suitable solution for carbonated beverages, beer, and others.
- Document GB776691 discloses a plastic stopper for use in bottles and similar containers, comprising a cylindrical plug part for entering and sealing the mouth of a bottle, and a cap part shaped to fit over the lip of the bottle, and extended by an interrupted claw-type skirting adapted to form a bayonet joint with a cooperating interruption ted collar on the neck of the bottle.
- Document PT104082 discloses a cork stopper comprising a body and a head, which can be used in wine and beverage containers and is capable of being reused manually.
- Document PT 2454165 discloses a sealing insert for use with metal and aluminium screw caps for glass bottles with threaded necks, particularly for bottles, which is simple to manufacture, and, at the same time, resistant to mechanical stresses and capable of ensuring a tight seal, even under very difficult conditions.
- Document PT 107961 discloses a capsulated stopper and a neck that includes two horizontal rods at the top of its edges, for engagement of fitting parts which are fixed to said capsulated stopper, made up of four components: a sealing capsule, two fitting parts, and a sealing stopper.
- Some drawbacks of this patent application include: the fact that the rods on the neck are square. This aesthetic aspect makes it difficult to engage the capsule onto the neck of the container, which, for this reason, will require greater pressure and force from the user when opening and closing the capsulated stopper.
- the described invention consists of an capsulated stopper, meaning that to implement the invention, a capsule and a stopper must always exist attached to each other, and are therefore not separable parts.
- the cited documents relate to sealing systems that consisting of a quick opening and closing mechanism for containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids.
- the object of the present invention is to develop a sealing system that overcomes the problems that the prior art documents have not been able to overcome, as well as the drawbacks mentioned in relation to the state of the art.

- This neck (2) comprises on its rim retaining means (3, 4) which consist of two symmetrically opposed rounded protrusions in relation to the axis of the neck (2).
- the sealing capsule (1 ) enters vertically in a downward direction or exits vertically in an upward direction from the neck (2) by passing the said retaining means through the lateral cavities (5, 6) located on the lower surface of the sealing capsule (1 ).
- the sealing capsule (1 ) comprises a sealing element (8) attached to the centre of its lower surface in order to provide more favourable and airtight sealing of the liquid inside the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, which comprises retaining means (3, 4) on its neck (2).
- This sealing element (8) has a variable length, generally between 12 mm and 45 mm.
- the lateral cavities (5, 6) of the sealing capsule (1 ) allow the retaining means (3, 4) located on the neck (2) to pass through perfectly and, by applying a 90° rotational movement in the clockwise direction, the said retaining means (3, 4) will slide into the internal cavities (7) of the said sealing capsule (1 ), causing the sealing capsule (1 ) to remain fixed in the retaining means (3, 4), allowing the liquid contained inside the container not to leak, nor to alter the liquid’s properties or the conditions inside the container due to external factors such as contamination, oxidation, poor sealing, among others.
- the sealing capsule (1 ) may comprise a silicone film attached to its lower surface, covering the entire internal area of the capsule, and allows to create an airtight effect of containers designed for the transport and/or storage of liquids.
- the presence of this silicone film ensures sealing of the space between the sealing capsule (1 ) and the neck (2).
- the thickness of this silicone film may range between 0.10 mm and 3.00 mm.
- the sealing capsule (1 ) may comprise a sealing element (8) attached at the centre of its lower surface, such as a stopper, which allows the sealing of a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids.
- This sealing element (8) fills the entire internal perimeter of the container neck (2) being sealed.

- these sealing elements (8) are made of natural materials to ensure they do not alter the properties of the liquids they come into contact with, as is commonly known in the state of the art.
- the method of attaching the sealing element (8) to a sealing capsule (1 ) is usually carried out by automatic machines or manually, depending on the volume and materials used.
- Both the adhesives, bonding agents and materials from which the sealing element (8) is made are selected to comply with the regulations of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the sealing capsule (1 ) with sealing element (8) assembly must meet the requirements for being repeatedly pulled and twisted in regular use, without the sealing element (8) detaching from the sealing capsule (1 ).
- FDA Food and Drug Administration
- the sealing system By rotating the sealing capsule (1 ) 90° in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction relative to its insertion axis into the neck (2), the sealing system alternates between a closing position and an opening position of the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids.
- liquid refers to any type of liquid that can be transported and/or stored within a sealed container.
- this may include alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, carbonated or non-carbonated beverages, olive oils or other edible oils, or any other type of liquid suitable to be stored in this type of container.
- container adapted for the transport and/or storage of a liquid refers to any type of a commonly used container for the transport and/or storage of liquids, such as flasks, bottles or demijohn, for example. These containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids can carry any quantity of liquid, preferably between 100 ml and 10 L.
- sealing element refers to any element that can be used to seal and close the contents inside a liquid container to ensure it is airtight and isolated from elements external to the system, such as a stopper or silicone, for example.
- opening position refers to the moment when the lateral cavities (5, 6) of the sealing capsule (1 ) are aligned with the retaining means (3, 4) of a neck (2). This position is reached immediately after the sealing capsule (1 ) has been placed in the neck (2) of the container or when the sealing capsule (1 ) is turned 90° counterclockwise, in relation to the insertion axis of the sealing capsule (1 ) into the neck (2), to open the container adapted for transporting and/or storing liquids.
- sealing position refers to the moment when, after the sealing capsule (1 ) has been placed in the neck (2), the sealing capsule (1 ) is turned 90° clockwise in relation to the insertion axis of the sealing capsule (1 ) into the neck (2), causing the retaining means (3, 4) to slide into the internal cavities (7) of the sealing capsule (1 ) and remain there fixed and secure.
- insertion axis of the sealing capsule (1 ) into the neck (2) refers to the axis of symmetry of the neck (2), which passes through the central point of the neck (2) and the centre of the two retaining means (3, 4) located on the rim of the neck (2).

- the present invention relates to a sealing system for containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, said system consisting of a sealing capsule (1 ) adapted to be retained in any container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, which comprises retaining means (3, 4) on its neck (2).
- Figures 1 and 2 represent the sealing capsule (1 ), which comprises a circular cavity on its lower surface. There are two rounded lateral cavities (5, 6), parallel and diametrically opposed to the central point of the sealing capsule (1 ), which will allow the sealing capsule (1 ) to fit perfectly into the retaining means (3, 4) on the neck (2) of containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids.
- two internal cavities (7) are formed, indented into the inner wall of the sealing capsule (1 ). These cavities allow, through a 90° rotational movement in the clockwise direction of the sealing capsule (1 ) relative to the insertion axis of the sealing capsule (1 ) into the neck (2), the retaining means (3, 4) of a neck (2) to slide into these internal cavities (7), becoming fixed and secure inside the sealing capsule (1 ).
- the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids transitions from a closing position to an opening position, and the sealing capsule (1 ) can be separated from the neck (2) of the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids.
- the sealing capsule (1) shown in Figures 1 and 2 has a round shape, but it may take any form, provided it is easily adaptable to the hand of a user who wants to use the system described, such as, for example, a square or oval shape, among others, provided that the fitting of the capsule (1 ) into the neck (2) of a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids has the features described above.
- Figure 4 represents a neck (2) of a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids with retaining means (3, 4) adapted to receive the sealing capsule (1 ).
- retaining means (3, 4) consist of two symmetrically opposed protrusions in relation to the central point of the neck (2) of any container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, and serve to retain the sealing capsule (1 ) when it is inserted onto the neck (2), rotated manually in the clockwise direction, and the retaining means (3, 4) slide into the internal cavities (7), thereby securing the sealing capsule (1 ).
- the retaining means (3, 4) present on the neck (2) of a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids consist of two rounded protrusions symmetrically opposed relative to the axis of the neck (2) that extend laterally beyond the neck by at least 2 mm.
- Said retaining means (3, 4) allow the perfect fit into the rounded lateral cavities (5, 6) of the sealing capsule (1 ) and, through the presence of internal cavities (7), the sealing capsule (1 ) is fixed onto the neck (2), allowing the liquid contained inside the container not to leak, nor to alter the liquid’s properties or the conditions inside the container due to external factors such as contamination, oxidation, poor sealing, among others.
- the sealing capsule (1 ) can have a sealing element (8) attached to its lower surface, concentrically and along a vertical axis.
- This sealing element (8) has a cylindrical shape, a length sufficient to ensure contact between the sealing element (8) and the neck (2) of the container, preferably with a minimum length of 4 mm, and a diameter slightly larger than that of the neck (2), so that when the sealing capsule is inserted into a container, the user must apply pressure in such a way that the sealing element is compressed as it comes into contact with the lateral walls of a container’s neck, allowing a sealing and airtight effect for the container to be created, preventing contact between the liquid and the external environment.
- the stopper has an additional 10 mm to 40 mm in relation to the inner diameter of the neck (2).
- the diameter value of the sealing element (8) also depends on the material from which it is made.
- Figure 6 shows an exploded view of a sealing system consisting of a sealing capsule (1 ), a sealing element (8), and a neck (2) with retaining means (3, 4).
- a sealing system consisting of a sealing capsule (1 ) with a sealing element (8) is intended for containers suitable for the transport and/or storage of alcoholic or carbonated beverages, as well as edible oils and olive oils.
- This sealing element (8) enables an improved sealing and airtight effect for this type of liquid within the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, ensuring that the quality of alcoholic or carbonated beverages, or edible oils and olive oils transported in containers equipped with this type of sealing system remains superior, and that the internal conditions of the container remain unchanged from the time the container is filled until it is opened and consumed, preventing oxidation and changes in the properties of these liquids, such as changes in taste, loss of pressure, loss of gas, loss of acidity, among others.
- the sealing system described in the present invention operates as follows: after filling a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, which includes retaining means (3, 4) on its neck (2), the sealing capsule (1 ) is placed over the neck (2) along the insertion axis, and the retaining means (3, 4) will fit into the lateral cavities (5, 6) of the sealing capsule (1 ). By performing a 90° rotational movement of the sealing capsule (1 ) in a clockwise direction, the retaining means (3, 4) will slide into the internal cavities (7), thereby securing the sealing system in its closing position.
- the user When the user wishes to have access to the liquid contained inside the container adapted for transport and/or storage of liquids, he will perform a 90° rotational movement of the sealing capsule (1 ) in an counterclockwise direction, and the lateral cavities (5, 6) of the sealing capsule (1 ) will coincide with the retaining means (3, 4) of the neck (2) of the container, thus reaching the opening position.
- the above-described sealing system may also comprise a guarantee seal or heat shrink capsule to guarantee the inviolability of a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids that uses this type of sealing system.
- This guarantee seal or heat shrink capsule can be placed over the sealing capsule (1 ) immediately after filling the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, fitting the sealing capsule (1 ) onto the neck (2), and rotating the sealing capsule (1 ) clockwise into the closing position, or it can be placed beneath the sealing capsule (1 ) before its placement on the neck (2) of the container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, in at least one of the lateral cavities (5, 6).
- the guarantee seal or heat shrink capsule incorporates an easy-opening system with a tear strip and/or vertical or horizontal perforations (the guarantee seal or heat shrink capsule is not represented in the figures).
- the sealing system of the invention can be reused in any container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids that have a closure system identical to the one described, since any container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids that has a neck (2) comprising rounded retaining means (3, 4) with specified dimensions, can use this sealing system, making it possible to reuse the sealing capsule (1 ).
- Another advantage of the present invention is the possibility of manually opening and closing a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids which has retaining means (3, 4) in its neck (2) adapted to fit and secure the sealing capsule (1 ), making it possible to alternate between a closing position and an opening position exclusively by hand, without the need to use any type of tool, such as, for example, a corkscrew, among others.
- Another advantageous effect of using the sealing system of the present invention in the transport and/or storage of liquids, particularly carbonated or alcoholic beverages, as well as edible oils or olive oils, is the fact that, when the sealing capsule (1 ) with the sealing element (8) is in the closing position and the retaining means (3, 4) of the container’s neck (2) are engaged and fixed in the internal cavities (7) of the sealing capsule (1), this creates an airtight effect for the container, preventing leakage of the liquid, pressure loss, changes to the liquid’s properties, among other issues.
- sealing capsule (1 ) examples include the following: wood, PVC, porcelain, metal, glass, rubber, among others.
- Examples of materials that can be used to produce the containers adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids include the following: glass, plastic, aluminium, among others.
- Examples of materials that can be used to produce the sealing elements (8) include the following: natural cork, colmated natural cork, agglomerated cork, silicone, synthetic materials, among others.
- Examples of materials that can be used to produce the guarantee seal or heat shrink capsule include the following: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film, cork, agglomerated cork, among others.
- the sealing system comprises a sealing capsule (1 ) and a container adapted for the transport and/or storage of liquids, comprising a neck (2) with retaining means (3, 4), wherein the liquid to be transported and/or stored therein is any type of non-carbonated or non-alcoholic liquid, such as, for example, water, juice, among others.
