- a non-terrestrial network (NTN) system is introduced in the 5G communication system.
- the NTN system is widely used in the communication field due to its wide coverage, strong disaster resistance and large capacity.
- wireless resources can be provided to terminals through satellites (or drones).
- network devices also need to page terminals.
- the method for the network device to paging the terminal may include: when the network device wants to perform related services on a terminal in an inactive state (INACTIVE) or an idle state (IDLE), the network device sends a paging signal to the terminal, the terminal receives the paging signal, and accesses the network device to perform related services by responding to the paging signal.
- the network device when the network device sends a paging signal to the terminal, the network device will start the T3513 timer.
- the network device receives a response from the terminal to the paging signal during the operation of the T3513 timer, it is determined that the paging is successful. If the T3513 timer times out and the network device still has not received a response from the terminal to the paging signal, it is determined that the paging has failed.
- paging failures to terminals may occur due to shadow fading and clutter loss.
- Line of Sight (LoS) probability indicates that at an elevation angle of 30 degrees, approximately 10% of rural users and 50% of urban users experience Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) between them and network devices.
- NLOS Non-Line of Sight
- clutter loss may result in an NLOS of greater than 18 decibels (dB) between the terminal and the network device.
- dB decibels
- the terminal may not be able to respond to the paging signal of the network device due to the inability to detect the paging signal.
- the network device does not receive a response to the paging signal from the terminal for a long time, it will determine that the paging has failed and will page again. After a certain number of failed attempts, the network device will give up paging the terminal, which will result in a low paging success rate for the terminal in special scenarios of the NTN system, affecting the communication efficiency and communication services (such as public safety services) of the terminal.
- enhanced paging in order to improve the paging success rate of the terminal, enhanced paging (Robust paging) is introduced.
- the network device can send an enhanced paging notification signal (Robust paging notification alert) to the terminal to achieve successful paging of the terminal under severe NLOS channel conditions.
- the enhanced paging notification signal can be a downlink physical channel, which includes its own built-in system information and synchronization signal. For example, at least one of the information carried, physical resources, number of repetitions, and transmission power of the enhanced paging notification signal is different from the above-mentioned traditional paging (or called legacy paging, normal paging).
- the enhanced paging is implemented by using a new synchronization signal and traditional paging.
- the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the physical downlink channel of the enhanced paging notification signal can be much lower than the SNR of the physical downlink channel of traditional paging.
- the enhanced paging notification signal can be understood as an enhancement of the traditional paging. Compared with the traditional paging signal, the enhanced paging notification signal is more likely to be detected by the terminal under severe NLOS channel conditions.
- the network device can send an enhanced paging notification signal to the terminal, so that when the terminal receives the enhanced paging notification signal, it can move to a location with better channel conditions to respond to the paging, thereby improving the terminal's detection accuracy.
- the paging success rate of the terminal can be used to send an enhanced paging notification signal to the terminal, so that when the terminal receives the enhanced paging notification signal, it can move to a location with better channel conditions to respond to the paging, thereby improving the terminal's detection accuracy.
