Definitions
- the invention relates to packaging for large appliances, in particular for household appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, refrigerators, cookers or the like.
- Such packaging for large appliances must be capable of supporting the weight of heavy equipment in its base area while simultaneously protecting it from damage caused by external influences and forces. Furthermore, stacking multiple packages on top of each other is advantageous for space-saving reasons during storage or transport, which in turn places increased demands on the stability of the load-bearing parts of the packaging.
- the document DE 102017 128206 A1 discloses packaging for large appliances, in particular for household appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, and the like.
- the packaging comprises a supporting frame, a base cushion arranged on the supporting frame, an upper cover part, and corner cushion parts, which can be placed at the corners of the appliance to be packaged and which form the vertical support elements of the packaging between the base cushion and the cover part.
- the cover part is designed as a cover cushion, which can be produced as a molded part from a polystyrene foam, and in an assembled state, the corner cushions are connected by their lower ends to the base cushion and by their upper ends to the cover cushion via positively engaging plug-in connection means.
- the document DE 102006 041 855 A1 discloses a stackable transport packaging for large household appliances such as cookers, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers or the like, which have a substantially rigid housing, with two lower frame elements arranged opposite one another on two sides of the household appliance, with two upper frame elements arranged opposite one another on the same sides of the household appliance and above the lower frame elements, with support supports for connecting the lower and upper frame elements, and with connecting supports for the height-adjustable fixing of the Supporting supports.
- All packaging components can be formed from a substantially rigid plastic to minimize packaging material.
- the supporting supports and connecting supports can also be formed from metal to withstand the increased pressure load from above without damage and to provide a secure connection between the upper and lower frame elements.
- Document DE 602005 002 787 T2 discloses a package for stretch-hood wrapping large household appliances, comprising a base shaped for at least either assembling a household appliance thereon or arranging the household appliance thereon after assembly, the package being packaged for shipment, the base having an upper surface for supporting the household appliance thereon and outer edge portions having a plurality of substantially L-shaped pockets located on top of the outer edge portions of the base, each pocket extending around the corners of the base; two vertically extending first posts, each having substantially L-shaped tabs on their undersides, which are received in a corresponding L-shaped pocket of the base at a corner location adjacent to where a pair of the front or rear corners of the appliance are to be received, the first posts being shaped for abutment along the length thereof against vertically extending corners of the appliance; two vertically extending second posts, each having substantially L-shaped tabs on their undersides, which are received in a corresponding L-shaped pocket of the base at a corner location adjacent to where the other pair of front or rear corners of
- the package may further include a device in the package and a film hood stretched thereover, the film hood being approximately at least along the bottom corners of the base to hold the package together. runs.
- the film hood can be made of polyethylene with a coefficient of friction on its inner side in the range of approximately 6 to approximately 6.5 and a coefficient of friction on its outer side in the range of approximately 4 to approximately 4.5 and/or can be formed from a film with a thickness in the range of approximately 90 microns.
- the base, the two vertically extending first posts and the two vertically extending second posts can be formed from polystyrene.
- the polystyrene can be expanded polystyrene with shock-absorbing properties.
- two of the posts can be arranged in a position in which a door of the device is arranged in the packaging and can be formed from expanded polystyrene with a density in the range of approximately 20 g/l and 30 g/l, and the base and the remaining posts can be formed from expanded polystyrene with a density in the range of approximately 32 g/l.
- a packaging for large appliances in particular for household appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, refrigerators, cookers or the like, is proposed, comprising
- lateral clamp pads for counter-supporting clamp forces which preferably consist of at least partially compressed honeycomb panels, which are preferably inserted into the base pad on the right and left sides, in particular in a form-fitting manner, and which preferably contact the large device on the inside,
- a roof cushion comprising a carrier plate with several downwardly projecting side flaps and shaped flaps, wherein several honeycomb cushions are attached, in particular glued, to the inside of the downwardly projecting side flaps, - at least one corner strip, preferably arranged at each vertical corner of the packaging, which extends from the bottom cushion to approximately the roof cushion and which preferably and at least partially consists of a fiber material, in particular wood or cardboard, and
- a film in particular a shrink film or a stretch film, which forms an outer shell of the packaging at least in part.
- the packaging according to the invention for large appliances is therefore basically the largest possible EPS-free packaging, which meets the legal requirements and the operational requirements, such as transport guidelines, Amazon ISTA 6 and so on.
- the packaging for large appliances according to the invention can be an essential component of a local, regional, national, and/or global sustainability strategy and represent a decisive factor in terms of market accessibility. It can also be part of a circular economy, facilitate the marketing of individual large appliances, and in certain cases even enable it, and significantly support and even shape the "green life" concept.
- the packaging for large appliances according to the invention is characterized by packaging components that are essentially arranged on the top or bottom of the individual large appliance. This eliminates the need for large-area and, in particular, multi-layered packaging components, with their associated manufacturing and recycling costs, storage volume, and the like.
- the familiar EPS corner padding can be completely eliminated. This means that the packaging components are no longer dependent on the device height, and variance is reduced by eliminating the corner padding.
- the packaging for large appliances according to the invention has a reduced number of variants with associated advantages, such as lower complexity, significant cost advantages, reduced storage diversity and the like.
- the known packaging for large appliances according to the known state of the art has significantly more packaging parts with correspondingly higher parts costs and storage costs.
- tub refers to a mostly flat, lidless container that serves to hold at least one element, component, assembly, and the like, whether solid or liquid. Within the scope of the present invention, the tub serves to hold the floor cushion.
- the tray can be, for example, a pure cardboard tray, e.g., made of corrugated cardboard, a cardboard tray, e.g., made of corrugated cardboard, with a coating, or a plastic tray.
- the coating can, in particular, be a preferably biodegradable coating that reduces, preferably significantly reduces, or in particular completely prevents, moisture absorption by the tray.
- a "honeycomb panel,” an abbreviation for a sandwich panel with a honeycomb core, is generally a three-layer composite construction in a sandwich design consisting of two load-bearing covering skins and a honeycomb-shaped support core.
- the support core also known as a honeycomb (German Wabe) adopts the structural bionics of this material and is made from resin-impregnated paper or cardboard.
- the cover skins can be made of cardboard. Various material combinations between the support core and cover skins are possible; the support core and skins are usually glued together.
- a honeycomb panel with a support core made of paper or cardboard can be designed to withstand loads of more than 50 tons per m2 .
- the cover skins can be made of natural wood panels, particleboard, or MDF.
- the roof padding's carrier plate can be made, at least partially or in some areas, of corrugated cardboard, also known as corrugated board in Switzerland.
- Corrugated cardboard is produced by gluing together at least one smooth and one corrugated paper web (single-sided or single-faced corrugated cardboard). Up to nine paper webs are used to produce corrugated cardboard (multi-wall corrugated cardboard).
- the flute is its key characteristic: Lightweight paper receives a Exceptional strength when corrugated or fluted and bonded to smooth paper webs to create a hollow volume. This lightweight paper construction creates a stable packaging material. Many different types of corrugated board and corrugated board packaging are produced depending on the requirements and application.
- the geometry of the material at the contact surface between the floor cushion and the base support of the large equipment is preferably designed accordingly: To specifically weaken the material in this contact area, the material can be perforated on one side and compressed on the opposite side. This allows the base of the equipment base support to penetrate into the material, effectively preventing excessive force introduction in this area.
- the floor cushion consists of a multi-layer assembly which comprises at least one contoured floor cushion base plate, preferably made of a non-compressed honeycomb cardboard, and which comprises at least one at least partially compressed upper floor cushion plate, the at least partial compressions of which have several, in particular three, different stages,
- the first stage of compression serves to position and/or lock a base support of the large appliance, in particular the dishwasher, in the base cushion
- the third stage of compression forms several force flow areas, which ensure that in a drop test predominantly, preferably exclusively, the formed force flow areas are involved in a force flow. Further embossing and/or further punching may be required for the respective interfaces in the assembly process, for example for the inclusion of accessory components.
- This combination of features offers the advantage of a one-piece construction of different functional areas, preferably in a single, at least partially compressed component, while achieving significant savings in material and weight. Furthermore, the base of the floor cushion can have a large recess. This combination of features also reduces the sometimes costly and demanding handling of individual parts.
- the floor cushion consists of a multi-layer assembly which comprises at least one contoured floor cushion base plate, preferably made of a non-compressed honeycomb cardboard, and which comprises at least one upper floor cushion plate, preferably made of differently contoured layer plates,
- first contoured layer plate serves to position and/or lock a base support of the large appliance, in particular the dishwasher, in the floor cushion
- the second contoured layer plate forms several damping areas, which ensure that during a drop test the acting forces are predominantly, preferably exclusively, introduced into the formed damping areas, and
- the third contoured layer plate forms several force flow areas, which ensure that in a drop test predominantly, preferably exclusively, the formed force flow areas are involved in a force flow.
- the base of the floor cushion can also have a large-area recess. Furthermore, reduced complexity can be achieved due to the lack of variation between the layers. The tools required to implement this combination of features are also simpler, smaller, and therefore more cost-effective.
- the floor cushion consists of a multi-layer assembly which comprises at least one contoured floor cushion base plate, preferably made of a non-compressed honeycomb cardboard, and which comprises at least one contoured and preferably partially compressed upper floor cushion plate, which consists of a layer of honeycomb cardboard and which contains foldable areas created in some areas by a respective trimming in order to create the final contour of the floor cushion with all the necessary functions.
- the functions can advantageously be designed so that all types of large appliances function with just one base cushion variant, thereby reducing complexity.
- Common and well-known device types include, for example, freestanding large appliances, semi-integrated large appliances, and fully integrated large appliances.
- additional components can be applied to this upper base cushion plate in a form-fitting or, preferably, material-fitting manner.
- the respective additional component can be an injection-molded component made of a plastic, such as polycarbonate, or optionally also of at least one paper-based and injection-moldable material.
- a centering pad can be provided in the respective right-hand and left-hand inner area of the floor cushion.
- the centering pad is a component required to lock the large device onto the floor cushion.
- the outer contour of the centering pad enables different variants of the base support of the large device to be locked in place, since, depending on the model series of the large device, different ribs of the centering pad can engage with the base support.
- the centering pad is preferably constructed and designed such that it can be used in both the right-hand and left-hand inner area of the floor cushion. This reduces the complexity of the centering pad to one.
- the centering pad comprises stepped holes and/or openings on the upper side and recessed areas on the underside in order to create a positive fit of the adhesive in the holes and/or openings in addition to a material bond through adhesive bonding. This ensures increased adhesion to the base pad and adequately fulfills the locking function of the large device. Due to the geometry of the base plate of the base pad and the "wings" on the centering pad, the correct positioning of both components and assemblies is guaranteed in a process-reliable and time-independent manner.
- the centering pad is preferably made of polycarbonate due to the material's adhesive properties, although the use of other plastics and plastic-free materials, such as injection-molded paper and the like, is also possible.
- the tray and the floor cushion arranged therein form a workpiece carrier which serves for assembling the large device on an assembly line.
- the components and assemblies of the workpiece carrier can comprise at least one fibrous material, at least one fibrous material with at least partial coating, at least a plastic and/or at least one wood compound.
- the coating is, in particular, preferably biodegradable and reduces, preferably significantly reduces, and in particular completely prevents, moisture absorption by the tub.
- the base of the floor cushion can also have a large-area recess.
- the large-area recess serves, in particular, to lift and position the large device at the "engagement point," i.e., the assembly point where the large device is brought onto the workpiece carrier and positioned, in particular, secured, thereon.
- the floor cushion can also be machined from below, particularly by punching. Folded areas can be cut from below, folded upwards, and glued. These folded areas are necessary to meet the transport requirements of the packaging and the functions of the workpiece carrier on the assembly line, such as stopping, contacting, lifting, and so on. Furthermore, the floor cushion ideally has a uniform geometry for all device types (floor-standing, substructure, integrated). Large cutouts for mounting the base panel on large stand-alone devices or recesses for the insertion areas of the support angles on large integrated devices can be provided in the front area of the floor cushion.
- the upwardly projecting tabs of the tray are preferably connected, in particular glued, to the floor cushion arranged in the tray.
- the bonding contributes to improved stability of the composite and is achieved by means of the upwardly projecting tabs, in particular folding tabs, of the tray, so that the open cut contours of the floor cushion arranged in the tray are covered and This ensures protection of the previously open structure during transport and on the assembly line, especially at stop elements. All necessary functions for the assembly line are also taken into account in the trimming contours.
- the tray protects the floor cushion against damage regardless of its structure and makes it more resistant to moisture ingress.
- the tabs are glued upwards to cover the open side surfaces of the honeycomb structure of the floor cushion.
- the open side surfaces of the floor cushion are not protected during production of the floor cushion, for example by a cover layer. Otherwise, the side surfaces of the floor cushion can be damaged at the stoppers and positioning points on the assembly line, which would affect the stability of the floor cushion.
- the preferably flat connection, in particular adhesive bonding, of the at least two components which is cost-effective and easily automated, can reduce the number of parts to be considered during assembly of the large device.
- the upwardly projecting tabs of the tray can be produced simultaneously during the production of the base carton of the tray, preferably using cutting and punching tools. The floor cushion can therefore be delivered directly to the assembly line in the tray.
- At least one support element is arranged on the front region of the floor cushion, in particular inserted in a form-fitting manner, and that the support element contacts the large device in its front base region, in particular supports it in a form-fitting manner.
- the area of the support element that is inserted into the base support preferably has slightly thickened areas to generate a clamping force.
- the component is still easy for the customer to disassemble when unpacking the large device.
- a possible rib structure of the support element is also designed so that ribs are only present in the necessary areas. This property is advantageously based on real loads during assembly and transport of the large device and can be designed and verified through simulation for both static and dynamic load cases.
- a hose guide for positioning a hose located on the large device during the assembly process is arranged, in particular inserted in a form-fitting manner, in the rear area of the floor cushion.
- a hose adapter for extracting residual moisture in the large device is arranged, in particular inserted in a form-fitting manner, in the rear area of the floor cushion before delivery.
- the at least two lateral clamp pads are contoured and/or compressed on the inside in such a way that they introduce clamp forces and/or further forces generated by further transport load cases into adjacent and force-absorbing components and/or assemblies of the large device, such as a base support or a door hinge.
- clamping forces and/or the further forces generated by further transport load cases into adjacent and force-absorbing components and/or assemblies of the large device can, for example, occur through direct contact with adjacent components and/or assemblies, in particular through larger contact surfaces, through “weakened” material and the like.
- the provision of further force-absorbing and sometimes expensive components in the lower area of the large device can be dispensed with, since the lateral clamp pads transmit clamping forces and/or further forces generated by further transport load cases directly and immediately into adjacent and force-absorbing components and/or assemblies of the large device.
- the at least two lateral clamp pads are contoured and/or compressed on the inside in such a way that they do not introduce clamp forces and/or further forces generated by further transport load cases into adjacent and non-force-absorbing components and assemblies of the large device, such as a side wall.
- the two side clamp pads are preferably installed after the optional side panels of the large device have been attached, not least for reasons of accessibility during the assembly sequence.
- the respective clamp pads can be designed by trimming or compressing them so that the forces are only introduced into the device at the desired positions, preventing damage to the components of the large device involved in the force flow.
- the at least two lateral clamp pads are designed in such a way that they can be mounted in the assembly process of the large device only after the attachment, in particular suspension, of wall parts, in particular on the right and left sides, in particular can be inserted into the floor pad in a form-fitting manner.
- This type of assembly in the form of a stacking, allows for quick, sometimes error-free, and simple assembly of the lateral clamp pads.
- the at least two lateral clamp pads can be prepared for stacking during their production, for example, when designing a honeycomb panel by means of compression or when designing a multi-layer panel by means of contouring. During the preparation of the at least two lateral clamp pads, the desired force application to the desired positions can also be ensured. By applying the correct force to the side clamp pad, potential damage to the adjacent side panel of the large device can be prevented.
- the roof cushion preferably consists of several components, including a carrier plate, in particular a carrier plate made of corrugated cardboard, several honeycomb cushions and at least one clamping strip for counter-support of Clamping forces. If no honeycomb padding is applied to the roof area of a large appliance, such as a dishwasher, the overall height of the packaged large appliance is lower, and the loading volume in the means of transport can be used more efficiently.
- a carrier plate in particular a carrier plate made of corrugated cardboard
- honeycomb cushions for counter-support of Clamping forces.
- the at least one clamping strip is preferably provided for integrated large appliances, in particular dishwashers, which do not have a top-side functional panel, in particular a worktop, since it is intended for the transmission of forces generated by transport loads.
- freestanding large appliances, in particular dishwashers typically do not have at least one clamping strip, since an existing top-side functional panel, in particular a worktop, is intended for the transmission of forces generated by transport loads.
- honeycomb cushion In the event that such a honeycomb cushion is required for a direct-to-consumer (D2C) application due to more stringent transport packaging requirements, such as roof joints and the like, this can be achieved using a modular design or a roof cushion variant specifically designed for these large devices.
- the cushions and the wooden strips of the roof cushion must be adapted to the interfaces of the different device designs, which in turn requires different component variants.
- the respective corner strip has an L-shaped or approximately L-shaped cross-section and/or that the respective corner strip is attached to the floor cushion, in particular fixed in position.
- the film in particular the shrink film or the stretch film, wraps at least the vertical side walls and the corner regions of a lower assembly and an upper assembly on the outside.
- the preferably recyclable film in particular the shrink film or stretch film, has a film thickness in the range of 30 ⁇ m to 75 ⁇ m, preferably in the range of 40 ⁇ m to 60 ⁇ m, in particular of approximately 50 ⁇ m.
- the preferably recyclable shrink film is preferably a polyethylene film, whereas the preferably recyclable stretch film is preferably made from polyethylene. Recycling is usually the reprocessing of discarded valuable materials into a new product. Strictly speaking, the original product is destroyed in the process - usually by shredding or melting - and the valuable material thus obtained is used to manufacture new products.
