Abstract

The invention relates to a visual indicator of washing a textile product, comprising a textile carrier layer, wherein coloured textile fibres are deposited on at least one surface of the textile carrier layer by means of a water-soluble binder, the coloured textile fibres covering between 1 % and 20 % of the surface area of the textile carrier layer.

Description

Visual indicator of washing of a textile product
Technical field
The invention relates to a visual indicator of washing a textile product, especially clothes, bed linen, home textiles, etc.
Background art
When purchasing various products off-premises, e.g. on the Internet, the buyer is given the option by law to withdraw from the contract within a specified period (in the Czech Republic, currently 14 days from receipt of the goods) without giving a reason. This time is sufficient for the buyer to decide whether to keep the product or return the unused product to the seller. However, sellers of textile products (especially clothes, bed linen, home textiles, and possibly other textile products, such as backpacks, sleeping bags, toys, etc.) are often confronted in practice with the fact that buyers withdraw from the contract even in the case of products that they wore or used during the given period and subsequently also washed. Due to the deterioration of the overall condition/appearance of the products during wear/use and washing, these products are unsalable. However, sellers of textile products currently do not have the possibility to simply prove to the buyer that the product in question has been used and washed.
The aim of the invention is to provide a cheap and reliable visual indicator of washing a textile product.
Summary of the invention
The aim of the invention is achieved by a visual indicator of washing a textile product, whose principle consists in that it contains a textile carrier layer on at least one surface of which coloured textile fibres are deposited by means of a water-soluble binder, the binder being dissolved during washing to release the coloured fibres. For example, a part of the textile product or a textile label sewn into it can serve as a textile carrier layer.
The coloured fibres are preferably fibres of natural origin, e.g. cellulose fibres, etc.
In a preferred embodiment facilitating the application of the water-soluble binder and the coloured textile fibres, the coloured textile fibres have a length of 0.5 to 20 mm, more preferably 0.8 to 1 .3 mm.
The coloured textile fibres preferably cover 1 to 20 % of the surface area of the textile carrier layer of the indicator, more preferably 3 to 7 % of the surface area of the textile carrier layer of the indicator.
The water-soluble binder is preferably a water-soluble polymer, such as polyvinyl alcohol.
The textile carrier layer of the detector has a basis weight of 5 to 1000 g/m2, preferably 50 to 120 g/m2.
Brief description of
Figure imgf000004_0001
In the attached drawing, Fig. 1 is a photograph of part of a visual indicator of washing a textile product according to the invention. of embodiment
A visual indicator of washing a textile product according to the invention comprises a textile carrier layer, wherein coloured textile fibres are deposited on at least one surface of the layer by means of a water-soluble binder. When this indicator comes into contact with water, e.g., during washing, the water-soluble binder dissolves and the coloured textile fibres of the indicator are released. Thus, the absence of coloured textile fibres is an indication that the product with the washing indicator according to the invention has been washed.
A suitable textile carrier layer of the indicator of washing according to the invention is directly part of the given textile product, preferably part of its reverse side. In the most preferred variant of embodiment, the textile carrier layer of the indicator is a sewn-in label, which is a fixed part of the textile product, either a separate label that serves as a textile carrier layer of the washing detector, or an ordinary sewn-in information label on which the obligatory data or the material composition of the product, its maintenance etc., are indicated. The advantage of the last variant is that sewn-in information labels are standardly made from high- quality materials, such as polyester or cotton, they withstand repeated washing very well, and their use as a textile carrier layer of the washing indicator does not require, apart from the application of a water-soluble binder and coloured textile fibres, no further production steps, nor does it increase material consumption. The basis weight of the material of sewn-in labels is usually in the range of 50 to 120 g/m2, and the basis weight of textiles used for the product of ordinary textile products is 5 to 1000 g/m2. Basically, any textile fibres can be used as the coloured fibres applied to the textile carrier layer of the indicator of washing. From an ecological point of view, it is particularly advantageous to use natural fibres and their derivatives, such as cotton fibres, cellulose-based fibres such as viscose, etc. The coloured fibres used are preferably dyed with a dye contrasting with the colour of the carrier layer of the washing indicator for easier identification. For the same reason, coloured fibres of different colours can be combined within one washing indicator - e.g., when using a white textile carrier layer, a combination of blue and red fibres has proven best applicable - see, for example, Fig. 1 , which shows a photo of a part of a visual indicator of washing a textile product according to the invention, the textile carrier layer of which is made up of a standard information sewn-in label, while on the surface of this label red and blue fibres are placed in a random arrangement. If necessary, optically brightened fibres dyed with e.g. fluorescent pigment can also be used. The appropriate choice of colour or colour combination of coloured fibres of the indicator of washing facilitates the control of the condition of the clothing product by both the seller and the buyer, and at the same time makes counterfeiting more difficult. A suitable length of the coloured textile fibres enabling easy visual detection of washing and at the same time the creation of a high-quality deposit on the textile carrier layer of the indicator of washing is 0.5 to 20 mm, preferably 0.8 to 1 .3 mm. The amount and distribution of the coloured fibres is chosen so that it overlaps 1 to 20 %, preferably 3 to 7 % of the surface area of the indicator. With such a quantity, an easy visual detection of their presence is guaranteed without disturbing the aesthetics of the given product, and in the case that an information label is sewn into the carrier layer, the readability of the information on it is not reduced. The coloured textile fibres can be arranged in a predetermined pattern, including alphanumeric symbol/symbols, or they may be randomly spread over all or part of the surface of the textile carrier layer of the indicator of washing.
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), for example, can be used as a water-soluble binder, which forms a thin surface film that is harmless to health, resistant to abrasion, environmentally acceptable and easily soluble in water. Alternatively, a variety of other water-soluble binders can be used, including other polymers, such as polysaccharides, alginates or modified starches, etc. The application of the water-soluble binder corresponds to 1 to 50 %, preferably 10 to 20 % of the basis weight of the textile carrier layer of the indicator of washing.
The coloured textile fibres and the water-soluble binder are applied to the textile product or its sewn-in label at the final stage of its production, either simultaneously as a mixture or sequentially. A suitable procedure is, for example, application using special techniques such as transferring the binder with fibres from a wading roller, application with a trowel, etc. This is followed by drying at an elevated temperature, which is determined by the properties of the binder used and the rate of water evaporation, typically in the range from 65 to 120 °C. The use of infrared heating is preferred.
The visual indicator of washing according to the invention can be applied to textiles of any type. It is inexpensive, easy to implement, environmentally friendly and yet reliable; its use and evaluation does not require any special apparatus or knowledge.
