Definitions
- This disclosure relates to wetsuits.
- protective suits may be worn when participating in water sports such as diving or surfing, or when performing various types of work in water.
- Protective suits protect the body by reducing exposed skin and prevent a drop in body temperature.
- Specific examples of protective suits include wet suits, which allow water to enter the suit, and dry suits, which do not allow water to enter the suit.
- wetsuits keep the body warm by using water that is between the wetsuit and the body. For this reason, wetsuits are required to be waterproof to an appropriate degree to moderately prevent water from entering or leaving the suit. In this regard, since water tends to enter and leave the area around the collarbone around the neck, various structures have been proposed to prevent this. For example, a structure is known in which after the head is passed through the neck hole of the wetsuit, a flap with an opening for the head to pass through is attached over the neck hole (for example, Patent Document 1).
- the main body and flaps of the wetsuit must be connected in a way that ensures a suitable level of waterproofing.
- the main body and flaps are connected to each other with hook-and-loop fasteners.
- hook-and-loop fasteners it is difficult to connect the main body and flaps without leaving any gaps, and it is not easy to put on the flaps.
- the wetsuit disclosed herein aims to make it easy to attach the flaps.
- a wetsuit (1) comprises a main body (10) having a main body neck hole (11) through which the wearer's neck is inserted, a flap (20) connected to the main body (10) having a flap neck hole (21) through which the neck is inserted and covering the periphery of the main body neck hole (11) from the outside of the main body (10) when the neck is inserted through the flap neck hole (21), and a line fastener (30) capable of connecting and disconnecting the flap (20) and the main body (10) to each other when the flap (20) is in a position where it covers the periphery of the main body neck hole (11) from the outside of the main body (10).
- the line fastener (30) has a pair of teeth (31, 32) provided facing the main body (10) and the flap (20), respectively, and two sliders (33, 34) for engaging and disengaging the pair of teeth (31, 32) with each other.
- the wearer puts on the main body part (10) and then passes his/her neck through the flap neck hole (21) of the flap (20), and then the flap (20) and the main body part (10) can be connected to each other by the line fastener (30). Therefore, the flap can be attached more easily than when, for example, a hook-and-loop fastener is used.
- the line fastener (30) is provided with two sliders (33, 34) that engage a pair of teeth (31, 32) with each other. Therefore, each of the two sliders (33, 34) can be operated with whichever hand is easier to hold. Therefore, the flap can be attached more easily than when, for example, the line fastener is provided with only one slider.
- the flap (20) may be connected to the main body (10) at a linear connection line (L) located on the back side of the main body neck hole (11). In this way, when the connection between the flap (20) and the main body (10) is released, the flap (20) hangs down on the wearer's back and is less likely to get in the way.
- the line fastener (30) may be formed so as to extend from one end (La) of the connection line (L), pass around the main body neck hole (11) and the flap neck hole (21), and reach the other end (Lb) of the connection line (L). In this way, since the line fastener (30) is not provided on the connection line (L) portion on the back side of the wearer, it becomes easier to operate the sliders (33, 34).
- the line fastener (30) is formed so as to extend from one end (La) of the connection line (L) to the other end (Lb) of the connection line (L) by passing in front of the wearer's neck, it becomes easier to connect and disconnect the flap (20) and the main body (10).
- one slider (33) located near the wearer's right shoulder is held in the right hand
- the other slider (34) located near the wearer's left shoulder is held in the left hand, and from that state
- the left and right sliders (33, 34) are simultaneously slid toward the front, so that the pair of teeth (31, 32) can be engaged in one go across their entire range.
- the wetsuit disclosed herein allows the flaps to be easily attached.
- FIG. 1 is a front view of a wetsuit according to this embodiment.
- FIG. 2 is a rear view of the wetsuit.
- FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a state in which the connection between the main body and the flap is released.
- FIG. 4 is a diagram showing a state in which the main body and the flap are connected to each other by the linear fastener.
- Fig. 1 is a front view of a wetsuit 1 according to this embodiment.
- Fig. 2 is a rear view of the wetsuit 1.
- the wetsuit 1 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is a protective suit worn when engaging in water sports such as diving or surfing, or performing various tasks in water.
- the wetsuit 1 allows water to enter the wetsuit 1, and the water between the wetsuit and the body keeps the body warm.
- the wetsuit 1 comprises a main body 10, flaps 20, and a line fastener 30.
- the main body 10 is the main part of the wetsuit 1 and may be referred to as the torso.
- the main body 10 covers at least a part of the wearer's body.
- the main body 10 covers at least the wearer's torso (upper and lower body, excluding the limbs and head).
- the main body 10 may further cover at least one of both arms and both legs.
- the main body 10 adopts a shape that covers the wearer's torso and limbs (both arms and both legs).
- the main body 10 may be made of a material such as rubber, or may be made of any material suitable for providing the desired function.
- the main body 10 may also be made of a single fabric or a combination of multiple fabrics.
- the main body 10 is flexible and stretchable, and fits the wearer's body.
- the main body 10 has a main body neck hole 11 through which the wearer's neck is inserted.
- the wearer releases the connection of the flap 20 to the main body 10 (described in detail later), and then enters the body 10 through the exposed main body neck hole 11, starting with both legs, torso, and both arms, so that the wearer's neck is positioned at the main body neck hole 11.
- water tends to flow in and out of the wearer's neck from around the collarbone through the main body neck hole 11 in a large amount.
- the flap 20 is a water-stopping structure for preventing water from entering or exiting from around the collarbone through the main body neck hole 11 around the wearer's neck.
- the flap 20 is a sheet-like member having a flap neck hole 21 formed therein through which the wearer's neck is inserted.
- the flap neck hole 21 is smaller in diameter than the main body neck hole 11, and fits closely to the wearer's neck when inserted.
- the flap 20 improves the waterproofness of the wetsuit 1 by covering the periphery of the main body neck hole 11 from the outside of the main body 10 when the wearer's neck is inserted through the flap neck hole 21.
- the flap 20 may have a high neck (turtleneck) collar at the flap neck hole 21 to further improve the waterproofness of the wetsuit 1.
- the flap 20 is connected to the main body 10. More specifically, a portion of the outer periphery of the flap 20 is connected to the main body 10. "Connected" means connected.
- the flap 20 may be connected to the main body 10 by having a portion of its outer periphery sewn to the outer surface of the main body 10, or may be connected to the main body 10 by having a portion of its outer periphery glued to the outer surface of the main body 10.
- the flap 20 may be connected to the main body 10 by being made of the same fabric as the main body 10.
- the flap 20 is connected to the main body 10 at a linear connection line L located on the back side of the main body neck hole 11.
- the connection line L extends approximately horizontally from one end La to the other end Lb on the upper part of the wearer's back.
- the connection line L may extend in a straight line, for example, from near the wearer's right shoulder to near the left shoulder. It is preferable that the connection line L is located at a distance that allows the wearer's hand to reach the one end La and the other end Lb.
- the connection line L may be located at a distance of 1 cm to 15 cm on the back side of the main body neck hole 11, and more preferably at a distance of 3 cm to 10 cm (the distance in the normal direction to the connection line L).
- the line fastener 30 is a mechanism that allows the flap 20 and the main body 10 to be connected to and disconnected from each other. More specifically, the line fastener 30 allows the flap 20 and the main body 10 to be connected to and disconnected from each other at parts other than the connection line L when the flap 20 is in a position that covers the periphery of the neck hole 11 of the main body from the outside of the main body 10.
- connect means to be temporarily connected
- disconnect means that things that were temporarily connected (connected) are separated from each other.
- the line fastener 30 may be a so-called slide fastener (sliding fastener).
- the line fastener 30 has a pair of teeth 31, 32 and two sliders 33, 34.
- Each of the pair of teeth 31, 32 is a long engaging member that engages with each other to close the line fastener 30 and disengages from each other to open the line fastener 30.
- Each of the pair of teeth 31, 32 may be a member in which multiple teeth (elements) made of metal or the like are arranged in a row at a predetermined interval. In this case, the teeth of each of the pair of teeth 31, 32 alternately mesh with each other to engage with each other, or the meshed teeth separate to disengage from each other as the sliders 33, 34 described below move forward and backward.
- the attachment teeth 31 are provided on the main body 10.
- the attachment teeth 31 are provided on the main body 10 so as to extend from one end La of the connection line L (here, the right end of the connection line L) and pass around the neck hole 11 of the main body to the other end Lb of the connection line L (here, the left end of the connection line L).
- the attachment teeth 31 extend from one end La of the connection line L, pass in front of the wearer's neck (chest position), and reach the other end Lb of the connection line L.
- the attachment teeth 32 are provided near the outer periphery of the flap 20.
- the attachment teeth 32 are provided on the flap 20 so as to extend from one end La of the connection line L (here, the right end of the connection line L) and pass around the flap neck hole 21 to the other end Lb of the connection line L (here, the left end of the connection line L).
- the attachment teeth 32 extend from one end La of the connection line L, pass in front of the wearer's neck (chest position), and reach the other end Lb of the connection line L.
- Each of the pair of teeth 31, 32 is positioned to face each other when the flap 20 is in a position to cover the periphery of the neck hole 11 of the main body from the outside of the main body 10.
- Teeth 31 may have a shape that is only curved, or only straight and curved lines. In other words, teeth 31 do not have to bend in a way that creates a corner.
- teeth 32 may have a shape that is only curved, or only straight and curved lines. In other words, teeth 32 do not have to bend in a way that creates a corner. This allows the sliders 33, 34 to slide smoothly, making it easier to attach the flap.
- the line fastener 30 is formed so as to extend from one end La of the connection line L, pass around the neck hole 11 of the main body and the neck hole 21 of the flap, and reach the other end Lb of the connection line L.
- the line fastener 30 and the connection line L form a closed loop that surrounds the neck hole 11 of the main body and the neck hole 21 of the flap.
- the line fastener 30 (teeth 31, 32) is formed so that the line fastener 30 (teeth 31, 32) from the front of the wearer (i.e., the center of the chest or under the chin) to the end La, which is the right end of the connection line L, passes within an area that can be reached by the wearer's right hand.
- the line fastener 30 (teeth 31, 32) is formed so that the line fastener 30 (teeth 31, 32) from the front of the wearer (i.e., the chest) to the end Lb, which is the left end of the connection line L, passes within an area that can be reached by the wearer's left hand.
- Each of the two sliders 33, 34 engages and disengages the pair of teeth 31, 32 with each other.
- Each slider 33, 34 is combined with both of the pair of teeth 31, 32, and is slid along each tooth 31, 32 to alternately engage and disengage the multiple teeth on each tooth 31, 32.
- Each of these two sliders 33, 34 is combined with a common tooth 31, 32.
- each slider 33, 34 engages and disengages the common tooth 31, 32.
- the slider 33 is provided on the tooth 31, 32 to the right of the slider 34.
- a pair of teeth 31, 32 are engaged with each other between one end La of the connection line L and the slider 33, and between the other end Lb of the connection line L and the slider 34.
- a pair of teeth 31, 32 are disengaged from each other between the slider 33 and the slider 34.
- the left and right sliders 33, 34 are simultaneously slid in different directions to the left and right, so that the pair of teeth 31, 32 can be disengaged in one go across their entire range.
- the left-right force vector for sliding the slider 33 and the left-right force vector for sliding the slider 34 are opposite to each other and have approximately the same magnitude (absolute value). Therefore, the forces that slide the sliders 33 and 34 are balanced in the left-right direction, allowing the sliders 33 and 34 to slide more smoothly, which in turn makes it easier to attach the flap.
- the wetsuit 1 comprises a main body portion 10 having a main body portion neck hole 11 through which the wearer's neck is inserted, a flap 20 connected to the main body portion 10 and having a flap neck hole 21 through which the neck is inserted, and covering the periphery of the main body portion neck hole 11 from the outside of the main body portion 10 when the neck is inserted through the flap neck hole 21, and a line fastener 30 that can connect and disconnect the flap 20 and the main body portion 10 to each other when the flap 20 is in a position where it covers the periphery of the main body portion neck hole 11 from the outside of the main body portion 10, and the line fastener 30 has a pair of engaging teeth 31, 32 provided facing the main body portion 10 and the flap 20, respectively, and two sliders 33, 34 that engage and disengage the pair of engaging teeth 31, 32 with each other.
- the wearer puts on the main body 10, passes his/her neck through the flap neck hole 21 of the flap 20, and then the flap 20 and the main body 10 can be connected to each other by the line fastener 30. Therefore, the flap can be attached more easily than when, for example, a hook-and-loop fastener is used.
- the line fastener 30 is also provided with two sliders 33, 34 that engage the pair of teeth 31, 32 with each other. Therefore, each of the two sliders 33, 34 can be operated with whichever hand is easier to hold. Therefore, the flap can be attached more easily than when, for example, the line fastener is provided with only one slider.
- the flap 20 is connected to the main body 10 at a linear connection line L located on the back side of the main body neck hole 11. With this, when the connection between the flap 20 and the main body 10 is released, the flap hangs down on the wearer's back and is less likely to get in the way.
- the line fastener 30 is formed so as to extend from one end La of the connection line L, pass around the main body neck hole 11 and the flap neck hole 21, and reach the other end Lb of the connection line L. This makes it easier to operate the sliders 33 and 34, since the line fastener 30 is not provided on the connection line L portion on the back side of the wearer. In addition, since the line fastener 30 is formed so as to pass from one end La of the connection line L to the other end Lb of the connection line L, through the front of the wearer's neck, it becomes easier to connect and disconnect the flap 20 and the main body 10.
- the left and right sliders 33 and 34 are simultaneously slid toward the front side, so that the pair of teeth 31 and 32 can be engaged at once over their entire areas.
- the wetsuit 1 may include structures other than those described above.
- the wetsuit 1 may include a line fastener other than the line fastener 30, for example, to make it easier to put on and take off.
- the wetsuit 1 may also include a double-layered flap 20.
- the flap 20 may be configured as an inner flap and an outer flap that are attached by overlapping each other.
- the line fastener 30 is not limited to one in which metal teeth are interlocked and engaged.
- the line fastener 30 may be made of resin.
- the teeth 31, 32 may be elongated protrusions and grooves, and the sliders 33, 34 may engage the pair of teeth 31, 32 with each other by fitting the protrusions of the teeth 31, 32 into the grooves, and disengage the pair of teeth 31, 32 from each other by removing the protrusions of the fitted teeth 31, 32 from the grooves.
