Abstract

Systems and methods are described for neurostimulation to provide therapeutic outcomes, such as the treatment of delirium, disorders of consciousness, narcolepsy, and inflammatory disorders, with signals that are adjusted based on electroencephalographic (EEG) signals. The neurostimulation may target the vagus nerve or its branches. The systems and methods use a detecting device to detect EEG characteristics where central autonomic nuclei may be more receptive to afferent input from the vagus nerve. A stimulator is controlled to provide neurostimulation to the auricular branch of a vagus nerve of the subject.
