Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a drape that is placed around a patient's eyes during ophthalmic surgery.
  • bacteria normally reside on the eyelids, eyelashes, and conjunctival sac, and during surgery, these bacteria can enter the eye through the incision via surgical instruments, intraocular lenses, or intraocular irrigation fluid supplied from surgical equipment that have come into contact with the eyelids, eyelashes, or conjunctival sac, causing postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis.
  • This type of postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis rarely occurs, but when it does develop and is caused by drug-resistant bacteria such as MRSA, there is a risk of blindness.

  • a drape having an opening formed therein is known, as shown in Patent Document 1.
  • This drape is composed of a main body of the covering cloth which largely covers the patient, and a peripheral portion around the surgical field opening.
  • the peripheral portion has an adhesive layer applied to the entire skin side thereof, and the peripheral portion is attached while closely adhering to the skin, conforming to the irregularities around the eyes.

Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a drape that is less expensive, has a simple structure and can be easily and securely installed on a patient's eye while sufficiently covering the eyelid margin skin and the eyelashes. A drape (1) comprises: a sheet- or film-shaped body part (11) for covering a patient's eyelid; a horizontal cutout (12) preformed in the center of the body part (11); and a pair of flaps (13, 13) formed above and below the cutout (12) in the body part (11). The pair of flaps (13, 13) are folded into the back of the patient's eyelid by an eyelid opening device (2), while covering the eyelid margin skin and the eyelashes.

Description

The present invention relates to a drape that is placed around a patient's eyes during ophthalmic surgery.

Traditionally, the first thing to keep in mind during cataract surgery or other ophthalmic surgery is preventing bacterial endophthalmitis from occurring after surgery. Specifically, bacteria normally reside on the eyelids, eyelashes, and conjunctival sac, and during surgery, these bacteria can enter the eye through the incision via surgical instruments, intraocular lenses, or intraocular irrigation fluid supplied from surgical equipment that have come into contact with the eyelids, eyelashes, or conjunctival sac, causing postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis. This type of postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis rarely occurs, but when it does develop and is caused by drug-resistant bacteria such as MRSA, there is a risk of blindness.

In order to prevent postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis, in typical ophthalmic surgery, the eyelids and conjunctiva are washed with disinfectant, the area around the eye is covered with a sterilized drape, and a metal or plastic eyelid speculum is used to open the eyelids before the surgery can begin.

However, simply covering the eyelids around the eyes with drapes requires the work of cutting and attaching the drapes before surgery, and it is not possible to cover the eyelid margins, particularly the skin and eyelashes at the corners on the ear and nose sides. The skin at the corners on the ear side in particular is a point that comes into repeated contact with the surgical instruments inserted into the incision, and there was concern that resident bacteria would be brought into the eye via those surgical instruments.

In response to this, a drape having an opening formed therein is known, as shown in Patent Document 1.
This drape is composed of a main body of the covering cloth which largely covers the patient, and a peripheral portion around the surgical field opening. The peripheral portion has an adhesive layer applied to the entire skin side thereof, and the peripheral portion is attached while closely adhering to the skin, conforming to the irregularities around the eyes.

However, when this drape is applied to the patient's skin during surgery, the periphery of the surgical field opening fits snugly over the contours of the eye, and there is still the problem that it cannot adequately cover the skin on the eyelid margin or the eyelashes.

On the other hand, as shown in Patent Document 2, an eyelid retractor has been proposed that functions as a drape that covers the entire eyelid margin, including the eyelid margin at the corners on the ear and nose sides. This is composed of a flexible upper ring that surrounds the eye and is attached to the face, a lower ring that is inserted into the conjunctival sac and attached to the palpebral conjunctiva side, and an elastic sheet that is positioned from the face side to the palpebral conjunctiva side, with one end of a flexible cylindrical thin film attached to the upper ring and the other attached to the lower ring, and can cover the eyelid margin and palpebral conjunctiva.

However, while this eyelid speculum is flexible overall, it is required to function as an eyelid speculum to open the eyelids, and as a result, it has a large elastic force trying to return to its original shape. This makes it difficult to place it on the eyelid during surgery, and the placement process is cumbersome, as well as costly to manufacture.

The present invention was made in consideration of the above problems, and aims to provide a drape that is inexpensive and simply constructed, and can be easily and securely placed on a patient's eye while adequately covering the eyelid margin skin and eyelashes.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a drape that is placed around a patient's eye during ophthalmic surgery, comprising a sheet-like or film-like main body that covers the patient's eyelid, a horizontally elongated cutout portion pre-formed in the center of the main body, and a pair of flap portions provided above and below the cutout portion on the main body, the pair of flap portions being folded over the back of the eyelid by an eyelid retractor while covering the skin of the patient's eyelid margin and eyelashes.

During ophthalmic surgery, the main body is placed on the eyelid while aligning the cutout with the eyelid margin, and then the pair of flap portions is folded behind the eyelid using an eyelid retractor; the drape can be easily and securely placed around the patient's eye while adequately covering the skin of the eyelid margin and the eyelashes. Furthermore, because the drape has a simple configuration with a horizontally long cutout formed in a sheet-like or film-like main body, manufacturing costs can be kept down.

The pair of flap portions may also be provided separately on the upper and lower edges of the cutout in the main body. This allows the pair of flap portions to be easily and reliably configured above and below the cutout. It also makes it easier to design the pair of flap portions to be made of a desired material, such as a material that is easily deformed, a non-sticky material, or a slippery material. Furthermore, when the inner edges of the pair of flap portions are positioned inside the upper and lower edges of the cutout, the pair of flap portions are folded so that they extend deep behind the eyelid, which further prevents resident bacteria from being brought into the eye from the corners or around the eyes through surgical instruments, etc.

The main body may have a non-adhesive portion provided on the back surface of the pair of flap portions and an adhesive portion provided around the pair of flap portions. With this, when placing the drape around the patient's eyes, the non-adhesive portion of the pair of flap portions does not adhere to the eyelashes of the eyelids, so that the cutout portion can be smoothly inserted between the eyelid margins while the eyelashes of the eyelid margins are raised by the pair of flaps. In addition, since the non-adhesive portion of the pair of flaps does not adhere to the skin of the eyelid margins, when the cutout portion is opened by an eyelid retractor, the pair of flaps can be smoothly folded to the back side of the eyelids while sliding on the skin of the eyelid margins. Furthermore, since the adhesive portion of the main body adheres to the eyelids and other parts of the eyes, the drape can be easily and securely fixed around the patient's eyes.

The main body may also have a non-adhesive portion on the back surface for gripping with the surgeon's fingers. In this way, by gripping the non-adhesive portion when placing the drape, the main body will not stick to the surgeon's fingers, making it easier to handle the drape during surgery.

The main body may also be provided with a second flap portion on the ear side and/or nose side of the cutout. In this way, the second flap portion covers the eyelid margin on the ear side (outer corner of the eye) and/or the eyelid margin on the nose side (around the eye), preventing resident bacteria from being brought into the eye from the outer corner or around the eye through surgical instruments, etc.

The main body may also be provided with an absorbent section at its peripheral edge that absorbs liquid that flows out from within the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery. In this way, the absorbent section absorbs liquid that flows out from within the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery, reducing or preventing the liquid from accidentally leaking out of the drape.

The main body may be formed so that the outer peripheral edge is thicker than the central portion. This makes it easier for the drape to maintain its shape in the planar direction and to place the drape around the patient's eyes.

The main body may also be provided with a drainage device on the ear side of the cutout for draining liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery out of the palpebral fissure. This allows liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery to be drained out of the palpebral fissure along the drainage device.

The drainage device may be made of a water-repellent material in a mesh shape, with its tip located inside the palpebral fissure and its base located outside the palpebral fissure, positioned so that it straddles the eyelid. This allows a large amount of liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery to be smoothly drained along the drainage device to the outside of the palpebral fissure.

The main body may also be provided with a covering cloth around the periphery to cover the patient's face, and a finger insertion section for inserting the surgeon's fingers between the main body and the covering cloth. In this way, even when a covering cloth is provided on the drape, the surgeon can grasp the main body of the drape by inserting his or her fingers into the finger insertion section between the main body and the covering cloth, making it easier and more reliable to place the drape around the patient's eyes.

The main body may also be provided with a cover cloth around the periphery for covering the patient's face, and the cover cloth around the main body may have a bag at its peripheral edge for containing liquid that flows out from within the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery. In this way, the bag contains liquid that flows out from within the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery, reducing or preventing the liquid from accidentally leaking out of the cover cloth.

According to the present invention, during ophthalmic surgery, the main body is placed on the eyelid while aligning the cutout with the eyelid margin, and then the pair of flap portions are folded behind the eyelid using an eyelid retractor, allowing the drape to be easily and securely placed around the patient's eye while adequately covering the skin of the eyelid margin and the eyelashes. Furthermore, because the drape has a simple configuration with a horizontally long cutout formed in a sheet-like or film-like main body, manufacturing costs can be kept down.

First Embodiment
Next, a first embodiment of a drape according to the present invention (hereinafter, referred to as the drape 1) will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 7. FIG.

When the drape is placed around the patient's eye O, the up-down direction of the patient's eye O (left-right and right in Figure 3) is primarily referred to as the "up-down direction", the left-right direction of the patient's eye O (up-down direction in Figure 3(b)) is referred to as the "left-right direction", and the direction perpendicular to the patient's eye O (up-down direction in Figure 3(a)) is referred to as the "front-back direction".

Below, we will provide a detailed explanation of the drape 1 and the eyelid speculum 2 used to place the drape 1 around the patient's eye O.

[Composition of this drape 1]
The drape 1 is placed around the eye O during a surgical operation, and as shown in Fig. 1, mainly includes a main body 11 having a generally rectangular shape in plan view that covers the eyelid M of a patient. Specifically, the main body 11 is a flexible and stretchable transparent sheet or film member such as polyurethane, in which a tip 1a on the patient's nose side is formed in a mountain shape in plan view, side ends 1b, 1b on the upper side (eyebrow side) and lower side (mouth side) of the patient are formed in a straight line in plan view, and a base end 1c on the patient's ear side is formed in a straight line in plan view, and is formed to have a width of 90 mm in the vertical direction (100 mm including the absorbing part), a length of 105 mm in the horizontal direction (115 mm including the absorbing part), and a thickness of 1 mm or less in the front-rear direction. The size and material of the main body 11 are not particularly limited, but it is preferable that the main body 11 is large enough to cover at least the eyelid M around the eye O and is made of a material that follows the surface of the eyelid M around the eye O.

The main body 11 also has a horizontally long cutout 12 formed in advance in the center, extending in the left-right direction. This cutout 12 is formed horizontally with a vertical width of 3 mm or less and a horizontal length of 20 mm so as to fit along the inside of the patient's half-open or closed eyelid margin N during ophthalmic surgery, and as described below, is opened vertically by the eyelid retractor 2 during surgery, exposing the patient's eye O (cornea).

The main body 11 also has a pair of flap portions 13, 13 that are integrally provided with the main body 11 on the upper side (above the patient's eye O) and lower side (below the patient's eye O) of the cutout portion 12. Each of the pair of flap portions 13 is formed with a length of 20 mm in the left-right direction and a width of 9 mm in the up-down direction, and as described below, is folded over the back side of the eyelid M (conjunctiva) by the eyelid retractor 2 during ophthalmic surgery while covering the skin of the patient's eyelid margin N and eyelashes K.

2, the main body 11 has non-adhesive portions 14, 14 provided on the back surface of the pair of flap portions 13, and an adhesive portion 15 provided on the back surface of the periphery of the pair of flap portions 13. With this, when the drape 1 is placed around the patient's eyes O as described below, the non-adhesive portions 14 of the pair of flap portions 13 do not adhere to the eyelashes K of the eyelids M, so that the cutout portion 12 can be smoothly inserted between the eyelid margins N while the eyelashes K of the eyelid margins N are raised by the pair of flaps 13. In addition, since the non-adhesive portions 14 of the pair of flaps 13 do not adhere to the skin of the eyelid margins N, when the cutout portion 12 is opened by the eyelid retractor 2, the pair of flaps 13 can be smoothly folded to the back side of the eyelids M while sliding on the skin of the eyelid margins N. Furthermore, the adhesive portion 15 of the main body 11 adheres to the area around the eye O, such as the eyelid M, so the drape can be easily and securely fixed around the patient's eye O.

The size of the non-adhesive portion 14 relative to the flap portion 13 is not particularly limited, but it is preferable that the length in the left-right direction is the same as or slightly shorter than the length of the cutout portion 12 in the left-right direction (e.g., about 1 to 2 mm shorter), and that the length in the up-down direction is 3 to 10 mm so as to adequately cover the skin of the eyelid margin N and the eyelashes K.

In addition, before use, the adhesive portion 15 has a release paper laminated thereon, and the drape 1 can be used by peeling off the release paper.

The main body 11 is also provided with second flap portions 18 on the ear and nose sides of the cutout 12. As a result, the second flap portions 18 cover the eyelid margin N (outer corner of the eye) on the ear side and/or the eyelid margin N (around the eye) on the nose side, preventing resident bacteria from being brought into the eye O from the outer corner of the eye or around the eye through surgical instruments, etc.

The main body 11 also has an absorbent section 16 provided around the entire circumference on the back surface of the peripheral end. This absorbent section 16 is formed in a ring shape with a vertical width of 100 mm and a horizontal length of 115 mm, and is made of a nonwoven fabric of natural fibers such as pulp or synthetic fibers such as polypropylene. This is intended to absorb liquid that flows out from within the patient's palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery. As a result, the absorbent section 16 absorbs liquid that flows out from within the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery, reducing or preventing the liquid from accidentally leaking out of the drape.

The main body 11 has a ring-shaped outer frame 17 attached to the surface of the peripheral end, which conforms to the contour of the main body 11. This makes the peripheral end of the main body 11 thicker than the central portion, making it easier for the drape to maintain its shape in the planar direction. An adhesive layer and release paper may be provided on the surface side of the outer frame 17, and after the release paper is peeled off, the adhesive layer of the outer frame 17 may be attached to the covering cloth.

[Configuration of eyelid speculum 2]
As shown in FIG. 7, the eyelid speculum 2 according to this embodiment has a gripping mechanism 21, an arm portion 22 and a hook portion 23 which are formed by bending a single elastically deformable linear member such as a metal.

The gripping mechanism 21 includes an upper first gripping portion 211 extending in the left-right direction on the ear side of the eyelid M, a lower second gripping portion 212 extending in the left-right direction on the ear side of the eyelid MM, and a connecting portion 213 provided between the first gripping portion 211 and the second gripping portion 212.

The arm portion 22 comprises a first arm portion 221 provided at the nose side end of the first gripping portion 211 and extending towards the upper eyelid M1, and a second arm portion 222 provided at the nose side end of the second gripping portion 212 and extending towards the lower eyelid M2. The first arm portion 221 and the second arm portion 222 are parallel and spaced apart when the first gripping portion 211 and the second gripping portion 212 of the gripping mechanism 21 are naturally opened, and are parallel and close to each other when the first gripping portion 211 and the second gripping portion 212 of the gripping mechanism 21 are closed in the approaching direction.

The hook portion 23 comprises a first hook portion 231 provided at the nose side end of the first arm portion 221, and a second hook portion 232 provided at the nose side end of the second arm portion 222.

The first hook portion 231 includes a slide portion 231a that is generally U-shaped in plan view and is inserted into the back side (conjunctival sac) of the upper eyelid M1, and a hook portion 231b that is hooked onto the eyelid margin N of the upper eyelid M1. The second hook portion 232 includes a slide portion 232a that is generally U-shaped in plan view and is inserted into the back side (conjunctival sac) of the lower eyelid M2, and a hook portion 232b that is hooked onto the eyelid margin N of the lower eyelid M2.

When the eyelid speculum 2 is in its natural open state, by grasping the first gripping portion 211 and the second gripping portion 212 of the gripping mechanism 21 and applying a gripping force inward against the biasing force of the connecting portion 213, the first gripping portion 211 and the second gripping portion 212 close in the approaching direction, and the first arm portion 221 and the second arm portion 222 move closer to each other, and the first hook portion 231 and the second hook portion 232 narrow the distance between each other, transitioning the eyelid speculum 2 to a closed state.

On the other hand, when the gripping force on the gripping mechanism 21 is weakened while the eyelid speculum 2 is in a closed state, the connecting portion 213 returns to its original position, and as the first gripping portion 211 and the second gripping portion 212 open in the separating direction, the first arm portion 221 and the second arm portion 222 move away from each other, and the first hook portion 231 and the second hook portion 232 increase the distance between each other, and the eyelid speculum 2 transitions to an open state.

[How to install this drape 1]
Next, a method for placing the drape 1 around the patient's eye O will be described.

First, Figure 3 shows the state before the drape 1 is placed around the patient's eye O. As shown in Figure 3, generally, in a patient's eye O, the lower eyelashes K2 are short and grow downward from the lower eyelid margin N, whereas the upper eyelashes K1 are long and may be curled and grow upward, although most elderly people's eyelashes grow downward. Then, before placing the drape 1, the area around the eye O is disinfected and the skin is thoroughly dried.

4, when placing the drape 1 around the patient's eye O, the ear-side and nose-side ends of the drape 1 are grasped mainly with three fingers, and the center of the drape 1 is bent in a V-shape in front of the patient's eye O toward the eye O. Then, the upper eyelashes K1 are slightly raised with the back surface of the upper flap portion 13 (upper edge of the cutout portion 12) of the drape 1, and the lower eyelashes K2 are slightly pressed with the back surface of the lower flap portion 13 (lower edge of the cutout portion 12), and the pair of flaps 13 are lowered toward the patient's eye O while being inserted between the upper and lower eyelid margins N, and then the main body portion 11 is returned to a flat state, and the adhesive portion 15 on the back surface of the main body portion 11 is attached to the eyelid M. At this time, since the non-adhesive portion 14 is provided on the back surface of the pair of upper and lower flap portions 13, the pair of upper and lower flap portions 13 of the drape 1 can be easily and reliably inserted between the eyelid margins N while sliding them over the upper eyelashes K1 and lower eyelashes K2.

Next, as shown in FIG. 5, the first and second hooking parts 231 and 232 of the eyelid spreader 2 are hooked on the upper and lower eyelid margins N while closed, and then the first and second hooking parts 231 and 232 of the eyelid spreader 2 are opened, so that the eyelid M of the patient's eye O opens vertically, and the pair of upper and lower flap parts 13 of the drape 1 are folded into the back side of the eyelid M (conjunctival sac) while covering the skin of the upper and lower eyelid margins N and the eyelashes K raised upward. At this time, since the non-adhesive part 14 is provided on the back side of the pair of upper and lower flap parts 13, the pair of flap parts 13 can be smoothly folded into the back side of the eyelid M (conjunctival sac) while sliding over the skin of the eyelid margin N and the eyelashes K.

Also, as shown in FIG. 5(b), when the eyelid M of the patient's eye O is opened vertically by the eyelid retractor 2, the pair of second flap portions 18 on the left and right sides of the drape 1 stretches vertically and covers the eyelid margin N on the ear side (outer corner of the eye) and the eyelid margin N on the nose side (around the eye), as shown in FIG. 6, preventing resident bacteria from being brought into the eye O from the outer corner of the eye or around the eye through surgical instruments, etc.

In addition, the absorbent section 16 of the main body 11 is provided on the back surface of the peripheral end of the main body 11, but the absorbent section 16 does not have to be provided. In this case, the main body 11 may be provided with a non-adhesive section on the back surface of all or part of the peripheral end (for example, the tip 1a on the nose side or the base end 1c on the ear side) to be grasped by the surgeon's fingers. This makes it easier to handle the drape 1 during surgery because the main body 11 does not stick to the surgeon's fingers if the non-adhesive section is grasped when placing the drape 1.

Second Embodiment
Next, a second embodiment of the drape according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.

The drape 1 according to this embodiment is provided with a drainage device 3 on the patient's ear side of the cutout portion 12 for draining liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery.

This drainage device 3 is made entirely of a water-repellent material in a mesh shape, with its tip located inside the palpebral fissure and its base located outside the palpebral fissure, positioned so that it straddles the eyelid M.

For example, the drainage device 3 may be made of a woven or knitted fabric using water-repellent yarn. This allows the liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure to flow easily in a planar direction along the surface of the drainage device 3.

The drainer 3 may also be made of a woven or knitted fabric using yarns of water-repellent synthetic fibers (such as nylon or polyester). This makes it possible to easily and reliably improve the water repellency of the surface of the drainer 3.

The drainer 3 may be made of warp threads extending lengthwise from the tip to the base, and weft threads extending widthwise and intersecting the warp threads, and may have a plurality of grooves extending lengthwise and having a width greater than the distance between the warp and weft threads formed along the width of the surface. In this way, a large amount of liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure flows through each groove on the surface of the drainer 3, so that the liquid that accumulates in the palpebral fissure can be more efficiently drained outside the palpebral fissure.

The drainer 3 may also be made of a woven or knitted fabric with a thread density of 10 to 50 threads per inch. In this way, the drainer 3 is made of a woven or knitted fabric with a thread density of 10 threads per inch or more, so that a predetermined amount of liquid is held in the gaps between the threads, and the surface tension of the held liquid causes it to be adsorbed to the face and stably installed. Furthermore, the drainer 3 is made of a woven or knitted fabric with a thread density of 50 threads per inch or less, so that liquid can easily flow down the surface of the drainer 3, and it is possible to prevent the drainer 3 from becoming too fragile to handle or break.

In this embodiment, the drainage device 3 is entirely made of a mesh-like material that is water-repellent, but it may also be partially made of a mesh-like material that is water-repellent.

Third Embodiment
Next, a third embodiment of the drape according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS.

As shown in Fig. 9(a), the drape according to this embodiment has a cover cloth 4 for covering the patient's face around the main body 11. Specifically, the peripheral edge of the drape 1 is attached to the back side of the cover cloth 4 by a method such as sewing, and the main body 11 and the cutout portion 12 of the drape 1 are exposed from an opening window 41 formed on the front side of the cover cloth 4 as shown in Fig. 9(b).

In addition, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 10, a finger insertion section 42 is provided between the main body section 11 and the covering cloth 4 for inserting the surgeon's finger.

The finger insertion section 42 is provided at the ear-side and nose-side ends of the main body 11, and by inserting the surgeon's fingers into the finger insertion section 42 between the main body 11 and the covering cloth 4, the surgeon can grasp the drape 1 itself, making it easier and more reliable to place the drape 1 around the patient's eye O.

The finger insertion section 42 may be provided at only one of the ends of the main body 11, either the ear end or the nose end, or may be provided at the upper or lower end of the main body 11.

Fourth Embodiment
Next, a fourth embodiment of the drape according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.

As shown in FIG. 11, the drape 1 according to this embodiment, like the third embodiment, has a cover cloth 4 for covering the patient's face attached by a method such as sewing, and has bag sections 43, 44, and 45 around the upper, lower, and ear sides of the main body section 11 to contain liquid that flows out from the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery through openings 43a, 44a, and 45a.

As a result, the pouches 43, 44, and 45 contain the liquid that flows out from within the palpebral fissure during ophthalmic surgery, reducing or preventing the liquid from accidentally leaking out of the covering cloth 4. In particular, in this embodiment, the base end of the drainer 3 is inserted inside the pouch 43 on the ear side, so the liquid in the palpebral fissure can flow down the drainer 3 and then be directly contained in the pouch 43 on the ear side.

Fifth embodiment
Next, a fifth embodiment of the drape according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.

As shown in FIG. 12, the drape 1 according to this embodiment has a pair of flap sections 13', 13' provided separately from the main body section 1 on the backside of the upper and lower edges of the cutout section 12. Each of the pair of flap sections 13' is made of a non-adhesive film material or sheet member that is 18 mm long in the left-right direction, which is shorter than the length of the cutout section 12, and has a vertical width of 3 to 9 mm.

Furthermore, the pair of flap portions 13', 13' have their opposing inner edges positioned inside the upper and lower edges of the cutout portion 12, forming a thin second cutout portion 13'a extending in the left-right direction inside the cutout portion 12, and the hook portion 23 of the eyelid speculum 2 is inserted and hooked into the second cutout portion 13'a. The second cutout portion 13'a may be a gap with a predetermined width, or may be a cutout line where the inner edges of the pair of flap portions 13', 13' abut or overlap each other.

This allows the pair of flap portions 13', 13' to be easily and reliably configured above and below the cutout portion 12. It also makes it easier to design the pair of flap portions 13', 13' to be made of a desired material, such as a material that is easily deformed, a non-sticky material, or a slippery material. Furthermore, when the inner edges of the pair of flap portions 13', 13' are positioned inside the upper and lower edges of the cutout portion as in this embodiment, the pair of flap portions 13', 13' are folded so as to extend deep into the back of the upper eyelid M1 and the lower eyelid M2, which further prevents resident bacteria from being brought into the eye from the corners of the eyes or around the eyes through surgical instruments, etc.

The pair of flap portions 13', 13' are provided directly on the back surface of the upper and lower edges of the cutout portion 12 in the main body portion 11, but the adhesive portion 15 may be extended to the upper and lower edges of the cutout portion 12 and attached to the adhesive portion 15.

Although the embodiment of the present invention has been described above with reference to the drawings, the present invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiment.
