Definitions
- the invention is related to an oral care stick set used by hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living institutions and rehabilitation centers, home care services, and informal caregivers in the oral care practice of patients, especially in the field of oral and dental health.
- the invention is particularly related to an oral care stick set that makes oral care more ergonomic, cost-effective, and effective, and facilitates the use of a moisturizer that is neglected after oral care.
- Oral care practice for conscious/unconscious patients who are bedridden or who cannot provide oral care themselves is among the duties and responsibilities of nurses. This application is done to protect the oral mucosa, prevent the development of infection and heal the formed mouth problems. In addition to these, oral care helps to protect oral health, which is deteriorated as a result of dental cavities and gum diseases, digestive system disorders, heart and circulatory system diseases, kidney and urinary tract infections, inflammatory diseases that may occur in the joints, and related treatments. Although it varies according to the needs of the patient, it is usually applied every 4-8 hours in unconscious patients and at least twice a day in conscious patients. During the procedure, the entire oral cavity (cheek mucosa, above and below the teeth, above and below the tongue, and palate) is thoroughly cleaned.
- Oral care sets used in the present include one oral care solution and solution container, 8-10 oral care sticks with cotton ends, and a moisturizer.
- the medical oral care stick used during oral care application is applied after soaking in an oral care solution. When nurses dip the medical oral care stick into the solution too much while applying oral care, the solution may flow.
- each oral care stick (average of 6-8 pieces) used during the procedure is dipped one by one in the same solution, leading to contamination of the solution. At the same time, the sticks dipped in the solution are scraped to the side of the solution container and the excess solution is tried to be drained from the sponge. However, the amount of solution of the sponge cannot be adjusted in this way and it may contain the excess solution. This leads to unnecessary solution consumption and increases the cost.
- the document numbered US2016038348 can be shown as an example of the state of the art in the research conducted in the literature.
- the said document is about oral care sticks used for oral cleaning.
- the said oral care stick consists of a body consisting of a relatively hard first material and a head portion consisting of a second relatively softer material molded onto the body.
- the said oral care stick is designed with a hard body to eliminate the aspiration of the patient by removing the sponge at the end of the stick or when it is exposed to harsh care, the part that provides oral care is soft and the head part is designed with an inclination to facilitate cleaning.
- the mentioned oral care stick is a stick used by dipping into a solution.
- the document numbered US3324855 can be shown as another example of the state of the art.
- the mentioned document is about sponges used in surgery. With the said sponge, it is ensured that the number of sponges used in the surgeries is reduced, and also by increasing the suction power and preventing the rupture of organs or hematoma by the medical instruments used with the sponge.
- the present invention is related to an oral care stick set that eliminates the disadvantages mentioned above and brings new advantages to the related technical field.
- the main object of the invention is to present an oral care stick set that makes oral care more ergonomic, cost-effective, and effective and facilitates the use of a moisturizer that is neglected after oral care application.
- the object of the invention is to provide an oral care stick set that provides ease of application and time-saving thanks to the solution in the reservoir of the oral care sticks.
- Another object of the invention is to provide an oral care swab set that has enough oral care solution for oral care and maintains the sterility of the solution without requiring repeated dipping of the swabs in an external solution.
- Another object of the invention is to present an oral care stick set that eliminates the risk of respiratory tract aspiration in patients due to excess solution taken into the stick.
- Another object of the invention is to provide an oral care stick set that provides cost savings by adjusting the amount of oral care solution and preventing the solutions that increase at the end of the oral care application in the solution container.
- Another object of the invention is to provide an oral care stick set that eliminates the need to carry a separate solution container for the oral care solution.
- Another object of the invention is to present an oral care stick set that enables the moistening process neglected in practice to be made easier by the moisturizer on the oral care stick.
- Another object of the invention is to present an oral care stick set that facilitates the moistening process, which is the last step of the oral care application, by connecting the moisturizer with the plug-in system on the oral care stick and being separable from the dirty stick.
- Another object of the invention is to provide an oral care stick set that eliminates the need for material preparation before oral care application.
- the invention is an oral care stick used in the field of oral and dental health, in the application of oral care to patients, comprising an external body in the form of a rod, a reservoir located in the external body and containing oral care solution, a mouth cleaning sponge located at the upper end of the external body and cleaning the surfaces inside the mouth, a pressure ball located at the lower end of the external body and allowing the solution in the reservoir to flow into the mouth cleaning sponge, the cover that connects to the lower end of the external body where the pressure ball is placed and prevents the solution in the reservoir from coming out.

- Figure 2 Disassembled view of the oral care stick and moisturizer belonging to the oral care stick set of the invention.
- Figure 3 General view of the oral care stick of the oral care stick set of the invention.
- Figure 4 General view of the oral care stick of the oral care stick set of the invention, fitted with a moisturizer.
- Figure 1 shows the general view of the oral care stick set (A) of the invention.
- the oral care stick set (A) in its most basic form; includes an oral care stick (Al) that allows the oral care solution to be applied to the patient's mouth and a moisturizer (60) that allows the moisturizer to be applied around the lips after oral care.
- oral care stick set (A) of the invention seen in Figure 1, there are preferably 10 oral care sticks (Al) and a moisturizer (60) attached to one of the oral care sticks (Al).
- the oral care stick (Al) seen in Figure 2 has an external body (10) in the form of a stick. Inside the said external body (10), there is a reservoir (20) filled with oral care solution. At the upper end of the external body (10), there is a mouth cleaning sponge (30), which is preferably rectangular and cleans the surfaces in the mouth. A pressure ball (40) is placed at the lower end of the external body (10), which allows the solution in the reservoir (20) to flow into the mouth cleaning sponge (30). Accordingly, a pressure area (11) is formed at the lower end of the external body (10) where the pressure ball (40) is placed, indicating the area where pressure should be applied to the pressure ball (40). Thereby, when pressure is applied to the external body (10) on the pressure area (11), the solution in the reservoir (20) flows into the mouth cleaning sponge (30) via the pressure ball (40) and the oral surface of the patient is cleaned by wetting the mouth cleaning sponge (30).
- a cover (50) is closed on the lower end of the external body (10) where the pressure ball (40) is placed, and the solution in the reservoir (20) is prevented from coming out.
- a moisturizer (60) is mounted on the external body (10) on one of the oral care sticks (Al), as seen in figure 4, to apply moisturizer around the lips.
- the oral care stick (Al) with the moisturizer (60) is manufactured in a different color to distinguish the oral care stick (Al) on which the moisturizer (60) is attached, from the other oral care sticks (Al).
- the said moisturizer (60) comprises a moisturizer reservoir (61) containing a moisturizer, a plug-in system (62) that allows the moisturizer reservoir (61) to be attached and removed on the external body (10), a roll-on (63) located on the moisturizer reservoir (61) and allows the moisturizer to be applied around the lips, and the moisturizer cover (64) closed on the moisturizer reservoir (61).
- oral care stick set (A) of the invention is as follows;
- the moisturizer cap (64) attached to the moisturizer reservoir (61) of the moisturizer (60) on the oral care stick (Al) is removed and moisturizer is applied around the lips by means of the roll-on (63). Thanks to the moisturizer (60), it is ensured that the person applying the oral care moisturizer is applied it around the lips without touching their hand.
- the moisturizer (60) is removed from the oral care stick (Al) and is in an applicable form thanks to the plug-in system (62).
