Definitions
- the invention relates to an avalanche rescue device with an avalanche protection backpack that has an inflatable airbag and a breathing device.
- Such a breathing system for avalanche victims is known from EP 3 370 834 B1, which has a mouthpiece that can be positioned on the head by means of a facial airbag.
- the mouthpiece is connected to the ambient air and an exhalation area via hoses.
- hoses must be as compact and flexible as possible for practical use. However, since the cross-section of these hoses has a strong influence on the breathing resistance, which is a certain one according to relevant standards If the limit value is not exceeded, difficulties may arise, especially when exhaling. In addition, these tubes must be reinforced so that in an emergency they do not become compressed and interrupt the breathing supply. However, such custom-made products are expensive.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing an avalanche rescue device which, in a structurally simple manner, enables a buried avalanche victim to breathe reliably over the longest possible period of time.
- an avalanche rescue device with a carrying device, in particular an avalanche protection backpack, which has an airbag that can be inflated by means of a triggering device and a breathing device with a mouthpiece which is connected to separate inhalation and exhalation areas of the breathing device, which is characterized in that the mouthpiece is arranged on a wing of the airbag which extends in front of the neck area of a wearer of the avalanche protection backpack when the airbag is inflated and is in particular connected without a tube to the inhalation and exhalation area of the breathing device.
- the mouthpiece of the breathing device is connected without a tube to an inhalation and exhalation area of the device. This significantly reduces the resistance when breathing compared to prior art breathing devices. In addition, there are no leaks in the hose connections, meaning that you can still breathe relatively comfortably and safely even if you are buried in an avalanche.
- the mouthpiece By arranging the mouthpiece on a wing of the airbag that extends in front of the neck, it is already arranged near the head of the avalanche victim after the airbag has been triggered and can either be grasped by the avalanche victim with the mouth itself or inserted into the mouth with the hand.
- the breathing device therefore has a compact and lightweight design and requires little storage space in the avalanche protection backpack when not in use.
- the inhalation area of the breathing device can preferably be provided with openings through which air can be sucked in from the surroundings of the airbag wing. These openings can be provided on different sides of the wing, thus increasing the chance that at least some will not have been blocked by snow when the avalanche buried the victim.
- the exhalation area can also be provided with openings that communicate with the airbag's surrounding air.
- these openings are not identical to the openings of the inhalation area in order to achieve a safe separation of inhaled air and exhaled carbon dioxide.
- the exhalation area of the breathing device may also have at least one opening that is connected to the interior of the airbag wing. This allows you to exhale into the airbag wing. This is possible if the pressure inside the airbag wing is not too high.
- the airbag wing can be connected to an inflation device of the avalanche rescue device or other areas of the airbag via at least one pressure-reducing valve. As a result, the wing is inflated with a much lower pressure than the rest of the airbag, which is intended to serve as a buoyancy body.
- Another possibility of reducing pressure in the wing is to provide an inflatable support structure for the wing and to inflate only this support structure when the airbag is deployed. It is also possible to design the wing as a separate airbag.
- breathing in from the airbag wing can also or as an alternative to breathing out. This makes sense if the wing is connected to the rest of the airbag so that a sufficient volume of oxygen is available.
- the inhalation area of the breathing device can also be used for this purpose Openings may be provided through which air can be sucked in from the interior of the airbag wing.
- the breathing device has a check valve that separates the inhaled air from the exhaled air. This measure also ensures that there is no mixing of inhaled air and exhaled carbon dioxide.
- the mouthpiece can be firmly connected to a face mask that covers the nose and mouth.
- a face mask protects the nose and mouth area from snow penetration, thereby increasing the likelihood that the avalanche victim can continue to breathe even after being buried.
- the face mask can be formed from a rear and a front half-shell, with the mouthpiece being firmly connected to the rear half-shell, which protrudes at least partially through the cover of the airbag wing.
- the tight connection between the mouthpiece and the rear half-shell ensures that the mask sits correctly as soon as the mouthpiece is inserted into the mouth.
- the front half-shell can preferably be arranged inside the airbag wing and connected to openings in the cover of the airbag wing. In this way, the mask only protrudes slightly beyond the airbag wing. Valve arrangements or the like of the breathing device can be housed in a protected manner in the front half-shell.
- the front half-shell can also be provided with openings towards the inside of the airbag wing. You can breathe in and/or out of the airbag wing through these openings. The separation of inhaled and exhaled air can take place via valve devices in the breathing device.
- an airbag wing can be attached
- Handle can be arranged, with the help of which the mouthpiece of the breathing device can be guided to the mouth of the wearer of the avalanche protection backpack, provided he cannot grasp it directly with his mouth.

- Fig. 8 shows an alternative embodiment of an airbag with wings.
- the avalanche protection backpack 10 has shoulder straps 12, 13 and an airbag 14, shown here in the inflated state, as a buoyancy body.
- the airbag 14 can be inflated using a handle 15 on the shoulder strap 12.
- the airbag 14 has two wings 16, 17, which form a kind of collar for the wearer of the backpack 10. They therefore extend below the wearer's chin.
- a breathing device 18 is integrated into one of the wings 16, which has a mouthpiece 19, which is already near the mouth of the backpack wearer when the airbag 14 is inflated and can therefore be grasped directly with the mouth or easily inserted into the mouth with the hand.
- the further structure of the breathing device 18 is shown in more detail in FIG. It has a rear half-shell 20, which in the example shown is arranged on an inside 21 of the wing 16, i.e. on a side of the wing 16 facing the body of the backpack wearer. It has a large number of openings 23 through which air can be sucked in from the inside 21 of the wing 16 via the mouthpiece 19. Exhalation takes place via a front shell of the breathing device 18, which is not shown here and is located between the inside 21 and the outside 22 of the airbag wing 16 and, together with the shell 20, forms a cavity through which one breathes in and out using the mouthpiece 19 can be.
- the exhalation here takes place into the interior of the wing 16, but could also take place towards the outside 22 of the wing 16 if the front shells have openings towards the outside of the wing 16. Exhaling into the wing 16 is possible if there is only low air pressure there, which can be achieved, for example, by appropriate valve devices in the airbag 14.
- the inhaled air is separated from the exhaled air by a valve, not shown here, below the mouthpiece 19. It is also understood that the shell 20 could also be arranged on the outside 22 of the wing 16. There, however, the openings 23 are exposed to snow and can therefore become clogged more easily than on the inside 21 of the wing 16.
- FIG. 3 to 7 show an alternative embodiment of a breathing device 25, which is designed in the form of a mouth and nose mask.
- the breathing device 25 is formed by a rear half-shell 26 and a front half-shell 27.
- the rear half-shell is designed in two parts and integrated into the inner side 21 of the airbag wing 16.
- the mouthpiece 19 (not shown) is also attached to a part 26a of the half-shell 26 that covers the mouth and nose of the avalanche victim outside the wing 16.
- a check valve 28 is provided which separates the inhaled air from the exhaled air. This also applies to the
- the mouthpiece 19 is connected without a tube to the inhalation and exhalation areas provided inside the breathing device 25.
- the rear half-shell 26 is connected via connecting elements 29 to the front half-shell 27, which has frontal openings 30 which protrude through the outside 22 of the airbag wing 16 and side openings 31 which communicate with the interior of the airbag wing.
- FIG. 6 shows an arrangement of the breathing device 25 such that inhaling from the wing 16 takes place through the openings 31 and exhaling into the environment on the outside 22 of the airbag wing 16 through the openings 30.
- FIG. 7 on the other hand, one breathes in from the outside 22 of the airbag wing 16 and exhales into the interior of the wing 16.
- the breathing device 25 it is also possible to arrange the breathing device 25 so that both inhalation and exhalation into the ambient air or both take place inside the wing 16.
- the openings 30 and 31 communicate with the interior of the airbag wing 16.
- the wing 16 can also be a separate airbag.
- the airbag 14 is inflated via a filling channel 40 which is connected to a gas source, for example a fan or a compressed air reservoir.
- the filling channel 40 branches into a filling channel section 42, which leads to the airbag 14, and a filling channel section 44, which leads to the wing 16, to which the breathing device 18, 25 (the breathing device can be designed like one of the previously described breathing devices 18, 25) is connected .
- An exhalation line 46 is arranged in the wing 16, which is connected to the exhalation area of the breathing device 18, 25 and opens into an exhalation opening 48 of the wing 16.
