- the operation units perform the same function regardless of the application being executed when operated.
- the front surface 11 of the portable game device 1 can be made more compact, or the area ratio of the display 5 can be made larger, without impairing the user's operability.
- a power operation unit 41 used for starting and terminating the operation of the portable game device 1 is provided on the top surface 13. Therefore, the power operation unit 41 is easily visible to the user holding the portable game device 1, and therefore, the power operation unit 41 is easily accessible, thereby ensuring convenience for the user.
- the home menu operation section 43 is provided on the bottom surface 14, since the home menu operation section 43 is not necessarily operated when the user does not use the home menu.
- the power supply operation unit 41 and the home menu operation unit 43 can be functionally confused, for example in terms of leaving the currently running application, but they are provided on the same surface to prevent the user from pressing the wrong button. can do.
- the bottom surface 14 on which the home menu operation section 43 is provided is located symmetrically with respect to the top surface 13, for example, compared to the case where the home menu operation section 43 is provided on the rear surface 12, the left surface 15, or the right surface 16, , the user can easily remember the position of the home menu operation section 43 due to its functional relationship with the power supply operation section 41 .
- the power supply operation section 41 is provided at a position shifted from the center to one side on the upper surface 13.
- the volume operation section 42 is also provided at a position shifted from the center to one side on the top surface.
- the operation units 41 and 42 provided on the top surface 13 are operated with the index finger of either the left or right hand of a user who is holding the portable game device 1 with both hands. Since the power operation section 41 and the volume operation section 42 are provided at positions shifted from the center to one side, the user can easily operate these operation sections 41 and 42.
- the power operation section 41 is provided on the upper surface 13 inside the volume operation section 42. If the user accidentally operates the power supply operation unit 41 while the game application is being executed, the game application will end unintentionally. On the other hand, even if the volume operation unit 42 is operated by mistake by the user while the game application is being executed, the volume will change somewhat, but the effect on the game application will be small.
- the power operation section 41 closer to the center (inner side) of the top surface 13 than the volume operation section 42, the user may unintentionally operate the power operation section 41, which is susceptible to erroneous operation. Storage is suppressed.
- the third operating section 33 is arranged on the upper surface 13 on the outer side of the volume operating section 42 . Therefore, when the user operates the third operating section 33, there is a possibility that the user may erroneously operate an operating section located inside the third operating section 33. However, in this embodiment, since the volume operation section 42 is arranged immediately inside the third operation section 33, even if the volume operation section 42 is operated erroneously, the effect on the game application is small.
- the home menu operation section 43 is provided at the center of the lower surface 14.
- the user When operating the operating section on the lower surface 14, it is assumed that the user temporarily releases one of the hands that are gripping the portable game device 1 from the portable game device 1, and then operates the operation section. Therefore, there is little need to arrange the home menu operation section 43 closer to the left or right side of the lower surface 14 so that the portable game device 1 can be operated while being held. Further, since the home menu operation section 43 does not have an operation section having a symmetrical relationship such as a + button and a - button, for example, even if it is placed in the center of the lower surface 14, operational inconveniences are unlikely to occur.
- the bottom surface 14 is difficult for the user holding the portable game device 1 to see, by arranging the home menu operation section 43 in the center of the bottom surface 14, the user can use the home menu operation section without visually recognizing the bottom surface 14. 43 becomes easier to operate. Furthermore, while the power supply operation section 41 is disposed offset from the center of the top surface 13, the home menu operation section 43 is disposed at the center of the bottom surface 14, and is offset not only vertically but also horizontally. Therefore, misidentification is less likely to occur.
- the screen image storage operation section 44 is provided on one side of the home menu operation section 43 in the left-right direction, and the screen image storage operation section 44 is provided on one side of the first speaker opening 55 ( outside).
- the home menu operation section 43 temporarily interrupts the game application being executed, there is no problem even if the user's hand covers the display 5 during the operation, whereas the home menu operation section 43 is used for saving screen images. Since the operation unit 44 is operated while the game application is being executed, if the user's hand covers the display 5, the user operates the screen image saving operation unit 44 while checking the image displayed on the display 5. It may become difficult to do so.
- the screen image storage operation section 44 is provided relatively outside the lower surface 14 (at a position away from the center of the lower surface 14). Therefore, when the user operates the screen image storage operation section 44, the possibility that the user's hand will cover the display 5 is reduced. Therefore, in this embodiment, the user can easily operate the screen image storage operation section 44 while viewing the image displayed on the display 5.
- the screen image saving operation section 44 is provided relatively outwardly on the bottom surface 14, the user can, for example, place his or her index finger on the top surface 13 from a state where the hand is positioned on the right surface of the portable game device 1. In the positioned state, the screen image storage operation section 44 can be easily moved to a state where the screen image storage operation section 44 can be operated with the thumb, so that the user can easily operate the screen image storage operation section 44.
- the screen image storage operation section 44 does not have an operation section that has a symmetrical relationship, such as a + button and a - button, for example. If there is any operation section at the target position of the screen image storage operation section 44 with respect to the center of the bottom surface 14, these operation sections have functions different from those of the screen image storage operation section 44, which are related to each other. There is a possibility that it may be mistaken for a department. In this embodiment, since no operation section is provided at the target position of the screen image storage operation section 44 with respect to the center of the lower surface 14, the possibility of such misidentification occurring is suppressed.
- the screen image storage operation section 44 is arranged on the opposite side (the right side in this embodiment) from the side where the power operation section 41 and the volume operation section 42 are provided (the left side in this embodiment) in the left-right direction. be done. Therefore, since the screen image storage operation section 44 is shifted from the power operation section 41 and the volume operation section 42 not only in the vertical relationship but also in the left and right positions, it is difficult for misidentification to occur between these operation sections.
- the screen image saving operation unit 44 is operated while the game application is being executed. Therefore, if the user is not holding the portable game device 1 in order to play a game application, but is simply standing it up on a table or the like, it is unlikely that the user will want to operate the screen image saving operation section 44. . Therefore, even if the screen image storage operation section 44 is provided on the bottom surface 14 instead of on the top surface 13, left surface 15, and right surface 16, there is a low possibility that any inconvenience will occur. Further, it is possible to suppress erroneous operations that may occur when the screen image storage operation section 44 is arranged on the top surface 13, left surface 15, and right surface 16.
- the operating units 41 to 44 which perform the same function regardless of the application being executed when operated, are provided only on the upper surface 13 and the lower surface 14. However, some of these operating units 41 to 44 may be provided on the left side 15 or the right side 16. Even in this case, since the operation units 41 to 44 are not provided on the front surface 11, the front surface 11 of the portable game device 1 can be made more compact without impairing the user's operability, and the area of the display 5 can be reduced. The proportion can be made larger. Moreover, a part of such an operation section may be provided on the rear surface 12 as long as the power supply operation section 41 and the home menu operation section 43 are provided on the upper surface 13 and the lower surface 14, respectively. In addition, a part of such an operation section may be provided on the front surface 11 as long as the power operation section 41 and the home menu operation section 43 are provided on the upper surface 13 and the lower surface 14, respectively.
- the portable game device 1 may be provided with an arbitrary number and type of operation sections 31 to 34 and 41 to 44 different from those in the above-described embodiments.
- a power supply operation section 41 and a home menu operation section 43 are provided on the top surface 13 and the bottom surface 14, respectively, and operation sections used for input from the user are provided on each of the left and right sides of the display 5, especially for progressing the game application. It is necessary to provide an operation section used for inputting operations.
- each of the operation parts 31 to 34 is arranged to extend through an opening provided in each wall of the housing 20.
- the operating units 31 to 34 may be placed on each wall without passing through the opening.
- the display 5 and some of the operation sections may be separable.
- the portions of the housing 20 having the operation units provided on the left and right sides of the display 5 may be removable from the portions of the housing 20 having the display 5, respectively.
- the display 5 may be removable from the integral housing 20 that has operating sections provided on both left and right sides of the display 5.
