Abstract

A smokable card, comprises a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side. The smokable card has a plurality of cavities formed within the first side; and a plurality of capillary channels formed within the second side and extending substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge. Also disclosed is method of making the smokable card and a cigarette made using the smokable card.

Description

A SMOKABLE CARD

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[001] This application claims benefit of United States provisional patent application serial number 63/268,152, filed February 17, 2022, which is herein incorporated by reference.

TECHNICAL FIELD

[002] The disclosure generally relates to smoking papers and more specifically to a smokable card.

BACKGROUND

[003] Rolling papers are used all over the world by smokers to consume tobacco, cannabis, and the like. The process of preparing a cigarette using the rolling paper is time consuming and complicated as it requires some skills from the users.

[004] For example, in order to prepare a cannabis cigarette users must, if in its natural state, first grind the cannabis. Then, a “V” or “U” shape must be formed using the rolling paper to create a convenient shape for rolling the cannabis cigarette. When the cannabis is placed within the “V” or “U” shape, a filter should also be placed in one of the ends of the rolling paper and next to the cannabis. Then, the user must roll the rolling paper while keeping the cannabis and the filter in their proper place, and finally activate a glue strip that is usually located at one of the edges of the rolling paper to keep the paper rolled.

[005] The elements mentioned above are crucial for preparing a cannabis cigarette. Therefore, when users want to roll their cannabis cigarette, they must have all the necessary ingredients, namely, rolling papers, grinder, and filters. In addition, rolling papers typically use trees as their raw material. Therefore, producing rolling papers has a negative impact on the environment.

[006] It would therefore be advantageous to provide a solution that would overcome the challenges noted above. SUMMARY

[007] A summary of several example embodiments of the disclosure follows. This summary is provided for the convenience of the reader to provide a basic understanding of such embodiments and does not wholly define the breadth of the disclosure. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated embodiments and is intended to neither identify key or critical elements of all embodiments nor to delineate the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more embodiments in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later. For convenience, the term “certain embodiments” may be used herein to refer to a single embodiment or multiple embodiments of the disclosure.

[008] Certain embodiments disclosed herein include a smokable card, comprising: a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side; a plurality of cavities formed within the first side; and a plurality of capillary channels formed within the second side and extending substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge.

[009] Certain embodiments disclosed herein include a method for producing a smokable card. The method comprises: forming on a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side, a plurality of cavities within the first side; and forming a plurality of capillary channels within the second side, wherein the plurality of capillary channels extends substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge.

[010] Certain embodiments disclosed herein include a cigarette, comprising: a rolled smokable card, the smokable card comprising: a substrate having a first side and a second side the second side being opposite to the first side; a plurality of cavities formed within the first side; and a plurality of capillary channels formed within the second side and extending substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge; and a smokable substance deposited within at least one of the plurality of cavities. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[022] The embodiments disclosed by the disclosure are only examples of the many possible advantageous uses and implementations of the innovative teachings presented herein. In general, statements made in the specification of the present application do not necessarily limit any of the various claimed disclosures. Moreover, some statements may apply to some inventive features but not to others. In general, unless otherwise indicated, singular elements may be in plural and vice versa with no loss of generality. In the drawings, like numerals refer to like parts through several views.

[023] A smokable card comprises a substrate such as hemp, having a first side and a second side. The first side includes a plurality of shallow cavities that are adapted to receive one or more smokable substances, such as cannabis substances, cannabinoids, tobacco, nicotine, terpenes, and the like, in the form of a solution, liquid, solid, mixture, compound, and the like. The second side of the smokable card comprises an array of capillary channels that extend from a first edge of the card to an opposite second edge of the card. The array of capillary channels enables smoke resulting from the burning consumption of the smokable substance to move essentially in one direction from a first edge of the card to a second edge of the card that is directionally opposite to the first edge. In addition, the array of capillary channels enables control over the bum rate of the smokable substance.

[024] FIG. 1A shows a first view of illustrative smokable card 100 according to an embodiment. The smokable card 100 comprises a substrate 110. The substrate 110 may comprise, for example, hemp, paper, and the like. The substrate 110 has a first side 120, shown in in the view of FIG. 1A, and a second side 130, shown in the view of FIG. 1 B. The second side 130 is the side which is oppositely facing with respect to the first side 120.

[025] The first side 120 comprises a plurality of shallow cavities 125. According to an embodiment, the plurality of shallow cavities 125 are created using at least one mold that is pressed against the first side 120. The cavities 125 do not penetrate or otherwise punch through from the first side 120 to the second side 130. Each of the plurality of shallow cavities 125 is adapted to accept and hold therein at least one smokable substance, e.g., the smokable substance 140 shown in at least FIG. 2A. The depth of the shallow cavities 125, which need not be all the same, may be limited by the thickness of the smokable card 100 and the material from which smokable card 100 is made, and they are typically shallow with respect to the thickness of the smokable card 100. In some embodiments, the depth of shallow cavities 125 may be, for example, in a range between 0.01 mm to 0.4 mm. [026] It should be noted that the plurality of shallow cavities 125 may be implemented in different shapes, and the smokable substance 140 may be respectively disposed within the different shapes of the plurality of shallow cavities 125. That is, the rounded shape of the plurality of shallow cavities 125, and the smokable substance 140 is only one example of many other shapes that can be used. For example, the shallow cavities 125 may be in the shape of a square, a hexagon, and so on. It is not required that the shallow cavities 125 be symmetrically arranged. It is also not required that all of the shallow cavities 125 be identical, i.e. , the shallow cavities 125 may have a mix of two or more shapes as the case may require.

[027] The smokable substance may include, for example, cannabis, cannabinoids, tobacco, nicotine, terpenes, fragrance substance, flavor substance, a combination thereof, and the like. The smokable substance, e.g., the smokable substance 140 shown in at least FIG. 2A, may be in the form of a solution, liquid, solid, mixture, compound, and the like, that may be deposited within at least one of the plurality of shallow cavities 125.

[028] The second side 130 of smokable card 100, shown in FIG. 1 B, includes an array of capillary channels 135. The capillary channels are channels that extend substantially from a first edge 150 of the card 100 to a second edge 160 of the card 100, the second edge 160 being directionally opposite to the first edge 150. In one embodiment the capillary channels are hollow, e.g., they are concave or sunken so that they form a depressed or low part of the surface of second side 130. The array of capillary channels 135 enables smoke resulting from the burning consumption of the smokable substance 140 to move essentially in one direction, e.g., in the direction toward the second edge 160 of the smokable card 100 from the first edge 150 of the smokable card 100. Thus, the capillary channels 135 direct the smoke from the first edge 150 to the second edge 160 of the smokable card 100. In some embodiments, some of the capillary channels 135 may extend on the second side 130 of smokable card 100 to, and/or under, the areas of one or more of the shallow cavities 125, when side 120 is considered to be the top side of smokable card 100. For pedagogical purposes, the outlines of the shallow cavities 125 are depicted in FIG. 1 B and the FIGs. that show second side 130. [029] In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 B the capillary channels 135 are interconnected so that the smoke may flow not only from first edge 150 of the card 100 to the second edge 160 of the card 100 but may also flow between the capillary channels 135 that are positioned next to each other. In another embodiment, the capillary channels 135 may be separate and distinct from each other, e.g., as shown close to first edge 150 of the card 100 and close to the second edge 160 of the card 100. In yet another embodiment, some of the capillary channels 135 may be interconnected while others are not.

[030] In an embodiment, the array of capillary channels 135 determines the bum rate of the smokable substance 140. Different bum rates may be achieved by employing different arrangements of the capillary channels 135, different thicknesses of the capillary channels 135, and so on. For example, a first smokable card having a first array of capillary channels having a first set of characteristics may have a bum rate of 5 millimeter per second and a second smokable card having a second array of capillary channels having a second set of characteristics may have a bum rate of 10 millimeter per second. In an embodiment, different areas of the smokable card 100 may have different bum rates, depending on the design of the capillary channels 135. The design of the smokable card 100 to achieve a desired bum rate may be determined by trial and error, as the bum rate depends on various factors such as the material of which the smokeable card is made and the arrangement and thickness of the capillary channels that are implemented in the smokable card 100, as noted above. Advantageously, the use of the array of capillary channels 135 improves the experience of the consumption of the smokable substance 140 thereby overcoming the poor user experience of the prior art.

[031] In an embodiment, the dimensions of the smokable card 100 may be 90 mm in length, 50 mm in width, and 1 mm in thickness. In such an embodiment, the depth of both shallow cavities 125 and capillary channels 135 would be less than 1 mm. It should be noted that these dimensions are merely examples and other dimensions may be used without departing from the scope of this disclosure.

[032] It should be noted that the smokable card 100 may be fully charged, i.e. , all of shallow cavities 125 are completely filled with the smokable substance 140, as shown in illustrative isometric view of an embodiment of smokable card 100 shown in FIG. 2A. Alternatively, smokable card 100 may be only partially charged, i.e., only some of cavities 125 are filled with the smokable substance 140, as shown in illustrative isometric view of an embodiment of smokable card 100 shown in FIG. 2B, where the black cavities are filled with the smokable substance 140 and the white ones are not filled. According to another embodiment, the smokable card 100 may be charged with different types of smokable substances 140. For example, a smokable card 100 may include a first type of smokable substance and a second type of smokable substance having different characteristics, such as, different tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels, different flavors, etc. In another example, a single smokable card, e.g., the smokable card 100, may include a smokable cannabis substance, e.g., cannabinoid, that is deposited within a first group of the shallow cavities 125, and tobacco, which is deposited within a second group of the shallow cavities 125. According to another example, the smokable substance 140 may include smokable substances having different flavors, different fragrances, and so on.

[033] In another embodiment, a single smokable card 100 may include several smokable substances, for example cannabis substances, each having different strength levels. That is, for example, different compounds of cannabis substance, e.g., cannabinoids, having different THC levels, may be implemented into the same smokable card 100. In one embodiment, the different smokable substances may be arranged within the shallow cavities 125 such that a user can consume each of the different compounds having, for example, different THC levels, separately. Also, it should be noted that up to each shallow cavity of the plurality of shallow cavities 125 may contain therein a different smokable substance 140 so that the smokable substance in each shallow cavity 125 has different flavor, a different fragrance, a different THC level, and so on.

[034] FIG. 3A shows an illustrative isometric view of a partially rolled smokable card 100, according to an embodiment. The smokable card 100 may be rolled, e.g. to form a smokable cigarette, such that the first side 120 covers the second side 130, while keeping the first edge 150 in an opposite direction with respect to the second edge 160, as shown in FIG. 3C. In a further embodiment, the smokable card 100 may be rolled such that the second side 130 covers the first side 120 while keeping the first edge 150 in an opposite direction with respect to the second edge 160. [035] FIG. 3B shows another view of a partially rolled smokable card 100, according to an embodiment. It should be noted that when the smokable card 100 is fully rolled, the array of capillary channels 135 is covered by the first side 120. That is, the smokable substance 140 is shown and the array of capillary channels 135 is covered. It should be noted that the smokable substance 140 may be covered and protected by a coating layer, as further discuss in greater detail herein. According to a further embodiment, a filter (not shown) may be integrated into the first side 120 of the smokable card 100 by depositing the filter into a portion of the plurality of shallow cavities 125.

[036] FIG. 3C shows an illustrative isometric view of a completely rolled smokable card 100, according to an embodiment. The smokable card 100 is adapted to be rolled into a tubular shape, or any similar shape, that extends from the first edge 150 to the second edge 160. As noted above, the array of capillary channels 135, shown FIG. 3B, causes smoke resulting from the burning consumption of the smokable substance 140 to move essentially in one direction from the rolled first edge 150 to the rolled second edge 160. That is, after rolling the smokable card 100, a user may light the first edge 150 and inhale the smoke created from the burning smokable substance 140 from the second edge 160. It should be noted that the rolled second edge 160 is used for positioning the smokable card 100 between the user’s lips.

[037] FIG. 4A shows an illustrative isometric view of a smokable card 100 with a coating layer 170 that can be seen distinct from smokable card 100 because it has not yet been applied thereto, thus rendering it more easily visualized for pedagogical purposes. FIG. 4B shows an illustrative isometric view of a smokable card 100 with the coating layer 170 applied thereon. According to one embodiment, the coating layer 170 may be used to cover, seal, and/or protect the smokable substance 140. The coating layer 170 may be made of polysaccharides, amylum, pectin, terpene, and the like. The coating layer 170 may be utilized for protecting the smokable substance 140 and extend its shelf life. It should be noted that protecting the smokable substance 140 may include, for example, preventing the exposure of the smokable substance to humidity, preserve the potency of smokable substances, e.g., preserving THC level of cannabis, and so on. [038] According to one embodiment, the coating layer 170 may be transparent. According to another embodiment, the coating layer 170 covers the first side 120 such that the smokable substance 140 is totally covered and cannot be seen.

[039] The coating layer 170 may be used as a substrate on which visual content, such as marketing content, warnings, and any other information, may be printed or otherwise implemented. According to another embodiment, the visual content, e.g., marketing content, warnings, etc., may also be printed or otherwise implemented on the first side 120 and/or on the second side 130 of the smokable card 100. That is, the visual content may be printed or otherwise implemented on the smokable card 100 before the coating layer 170 is implemented, or even without the coating layer 170 at all. According to yet a further embodiment, the visual content may be indicative of the precise amount of smokable substance, e.g., THC level, in each section, e.g., in each millimeter, of the smokable card 100.

[040] FIG. 5A shows an illustrative isometric view of a smokable card 100 with a glue strip 180 that can be seen distinct from smokable card 100 thus rendering it more easily visualized for pedagogical purposes. FIG. 5B shows an illustrative isometric view of a smokable card 100 with the glue strip 180 applied thereon. The glue strip 180 may be implemented over the second side 130 by depositing the glue strip 180 onto at least one margin 190, e.g., the margin 190A and/or the margin 190B of FIG. 5A, of the second side 130. Glue strip 180 may, but need not, extend all the way from the first edge 150 to the second edge 160. For example, the width of the glue strip 180 may be in a range between 2 millimeter to 5 millimeter. The glue strip 180 may be activated by moistening, typically with saliva. The glue strip 180 may be used to seal the rolled smokable card 100, e.g., as shown in FIG. 3C.

[041] The disclosed smokable card has many advantages. It is easy to use and requires no skill to use it. Therefore, even inexperienced users can use it. In addition, the smokable card may be made of hemp, which is produced from cannabis, and not from paper, which is produced from trees, thereby saving trees. Thus, using hemp is advantageous as it is better for the environment. Each smokable card that is produced may have a known and precise amount of the particular smokable substance or substances that one chooses to incorporate therein, e.g., cannabis. Moreover, the smokable substance may be optimally distributed over the smokable card such that a consistent and pleasant user experience is created.

[042] Smokable card 100 may be produced by a method that includes forming on a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side, a plurality of shallow cavities within the first side; and forming a plurality of capillary channels within the second side, wherein the plurality of capillary channels extend substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being directionally opposite to the first edge.

[043] As used herein, the phrase “at least one of” followed by a listing of items means that any of the listed items can be utilized individually, or any combination of two or more of the listed items can be utilized. For example, if a system is described as including “at least one of A, B, and C,” the system can include A alone; B alone; C alone; 2A; 2B; 2C; 3A; A and B in combination; B and C in combination; A and C in combination; A, B, and C in combination; 2A and C in combination; A, 3B, and 2C in combination; and the like.

[044] It should be understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as “first,” “second,” and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations are generally used herein as a convenient method of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements may be employed there or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner. Also, unless stated otherwise, a set of elements comprises one or more elements.

[045] All examples and conditional language recited herein are intended for pedagogical purposes to aid the reader in understanding the principles and the concepts contributed by the inventor to furthering the art, and are to be construed as being without limitation to such specifically recited examples and conditions. Moreover, all statements herein reciting principles, aspects, and embodiments, as well as specific examples thereof, are intended to encompass both structural and functional equivalents thereof. Additionally, it is intended that such equivalents include both currently known equivalents as well as equivalents developed in the future, i.e. , any elements developed that perform the same function, regardless of structure.

Claims

1. A smokable card, comprising: a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side; a plurality of cavities formed within the first side; and a plurality of capillary channels formed within the second side and extending substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge.

2. The smokable card of claim 1 , wherein the substrate is made of at least one of: hemp and paper.

3. The smokable card of claim 1 , wherein the smokable card is at least partly rolled into a tubular shape that extends from the first edge to the second edge.

4. The smokable card of claim 1 , wherein at least one of capillary channels directs smoke resulting from the burning consumption of the smokable substance to move essentially in a direction toward the second edge of the card from nearer to the first edge of the card.

5. The smokable card of claim 1 , wherein at least two of capillary channels are interconnected.

6. The smokable card of claim 1 , further comprises: a smokable substance deposited within at least one of the plurality of cavities.

7. The smokable card of claim 6, wherein at least another of the plurality of cavities contains a further smokable substance that is different in at least one characteristic from the smokable substance deposited within the at least one of the plurality of cavities.

8. The smokable card of claim 6, wherein the smokable substance comprises at least one of: cannabis, cannabinoid, tobacco, a fragrance substance, and a flavor substance.

9. The smokable card of claim 6, wherein the smokable substance is in the form of at least one of: a solution, a liquid, a solid, a mixture, and a compound.

10. The smokable card of claim 6, wherein the plurality of capillary channels are adapted to achieve a predetermined bum rate of the smokable substance should the smokable card be rolled into a cigarette and burned.

11 . The smokable card of claim 1 , further comprising: a coating layer deposited over at least the first side of the smokable card.

12. The smokable card of claim 11 , wherein the coating layer comprises at least one of: a polysaccharide substance, amylum, pectin, and terpene.

13. The smokable card of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cavities are shallow with respect to a thickness of the smokable card.

14. A method for producing a smokable card, the method comprising: forming on a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side, a plurality of cavities within the first side; and forming a plurality of capillary channels within the second side, wherein the plurality of capillary channels extends substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising: depositing a smokable substance within at least one of the plurality of cavities.

16. The smokable card of claim 15, wherein at least another of the plurality of cavities contains a further smokable substance that is different in at least one characteristic from the smokable substance deposited within the at least one of the plurality of cavities.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the smokable substance comprises at least one of: cannabis, cannabinoid, tobacco, a fragrance substance, and a flavor substance.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein at least two of capillary channels are formed so as to be interconnected.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the plurality of capillary channels are formed so as to achieve a predetermined bum rate of the smokable substance should the smokable card be formed into a cigarette and burned.

20. The method of claim 14, wherein the substrate is made of at least one of: hemp and paper.

21 . The method of claim 14 further comprising: forming a coating layer over at least the first side of the smokable card.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the coating layer comprises at least one of: a polysaccharide substance, amylum, pectin, and terpene.

23. The method of claim 14, wherein the plurality of cavities are shallow with respect to a thickness of the smokable card.

24. A cigarette, comprising: a rolled smokable card, the smokable card comprising: a substrate having a first side and a second side, the second side being opposite to the first side; a plurality of cavities formed within the first side; and a plurality of capillary channels formed within the second side and extending substantially from a first edge of the smokable card to a second edge of the smokable card, the second edge being opposite to the first edge; and a smokable substance deposited within at least one of the plurality of cavities.
