Abstract

A cosmetic composition comprising (a) a metabisulfite, (b) an aldehyde compound, (c) at least one selected from the group consisting of amino acids and amino acid derivatives, and (d) water.

Description

COSMETIC COMPOSITION
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition.
Background Art
[0002] Lip cosmetics such as lipsticks and lip creams must have excellent properties in terms of not only usability but also odor, taste and appearance. In order to achieve such properties, and particularly odor and taste, aldehyde compounds with pleasant flavor such as vanillin are often formulated in the cosmetics.
[0003] Anionic surfactants derived from amino acids are useful for oil- in-water type emulsification, while amino acids themselves also provide a barrier function for skin, and therefore amino acid-derived components are widely used in formulation of cosmetics.
Technical Problem
[0004] However, the copresence of aldehyde compounds and amino acid-derived components in cosmetics can result in serious problems such as brown discoloration of the cosmetic appearance, as well as off- odor and bitter taste. While cosmetics further comprising plant-derived extracts with antioxidant effects, for example, have been proposed to overcome this problem (see Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 2002-293736, for example), they require large amounts of plant- derived extracts, and most plant-derived extracts also have characteristic odors and brown appearance, such that it has been extremely difficult to produce cosmetics with all of the desired properties including appearance, odor and taste. [0005] It is an object of the invention to provide a cosmetic composition simultaneously comprising an aldehyde compound and an amino acid- derived component, while also exhibiting excellent properties of appearance, odor and taste.
Solution to Problem and Summary of Invention
[0006] The present invention provides a cosmetic composition comprising (a) a metabisulfite, (b) an aldehyde compound, (c) at least one selected from the group consisting of amino acids and amino acid derivatives and (d) water.
[0007] As used herein, "(a) metabisulfite" may also be referred to hereunder simply as "component (a)", and the other components may be referred to in a similar manner.
The aldehyde compound in the cosmetic composition of the invention may be an aromatic aldehyde. This will allow more excellent odor and taste to be exhibited.
The amino acid derivative in the cosmetic composition of the invention may be one or more selected from the group consisting of N- acylglutamates, N-acylalkylalanine salts, N-acylglycine salts, N- acylsarcosine salts and N-acylaspartates. By using these surfactant components as amino acid derivatives it is possible to produce a cosmetic composition in a satisfactory emulsified state, whether it is an oil-in-water type or water-in-oil type.

(1) Preparation of cosmetics
Each of the components of the composition in Table 1 were mixed and stirred at 80°C to prepare different cosmetics. The units for the contents of each of the materials in Table 1 are given in mass% by mass of the composition.
(2) Stability evaluation
Each prepared cosmetic was filled into a glass vessel and sealed with a cap, and then stored for 1 month at 50°C. For appearance, cosmetics in which no color change was observed or only slight color change was observed were evaluated as "a", and cosmetics in which color change such as brown coloration or other coloration was clearly observed were evaluated as "b". For odor and taste, 10 evaluation panelists, who were cosmetic experts (ages 25 to 55) compared standard samples (each of the prepared cosmetics housed in a glass vessel, sealed with a cap, and stored for 1 month at 4°C), and evaluated them on the following 6-level scale, from A to F.
Scale
A: All evaluators indicated no discernible change in odor or taste. B: 1 or 2 evaluators indicated a slight change in odor or taste.
C: 1 or 2 evaluators indicated a discernible change to unpleasant odor or taste. D: 1 or 2 evaluators indicated a discernible notable change to unpleasant odor or taste.
E: 3 to 5 evaluators indicated a discernible notable change to unpleasant odor or taste.
F: 6 to 10 evaluators indicated a discernible notable change to unpleasant odor or taste.
