Description
Disc Harrow with a Hydraulic Folding Mechanism
Technical Field
The invention relates to a disc harrow with a hydraulic folding mechanism allowing for the movement of the frame in order to provide the agricultural instrument with a safe carrying width allowed in accordance with the road traffic regulations.
The invention particularly relates to a disc harrow with a hydraulic folding mechanism which decreases the fatigue depending on the vibrations during carriage by fully folding the frame with a 180°degree right angle by means o f the hydraulic pistons in order to provide the disc harrow with the safe carrying width allowed in accordance with the road traffic regulations.
Present Art
The disc harrow (disc tiller) is an agricultural instrument used to complete the work of the plow, carry out stubble plowing, break clod, chop the weeds and the plant residues after harvesting, and crumble the surface of the earth. It is used in combination with the toothed harrows and tractors.
Disc harrows generally consist of concave discs with flat or grooved edges located on a square shaft and intermediate reels. The discs are independently aligned on the frame in definite distances in a single or double-acting manner.
A disc harrow should have a minimum work width to cover the back track width of the tractor. It also should comprise independent discs in enough numbers to allow for carrying out all the agricultural activities in line with the towing power of the tractor. The number of discs is an important variable in determining the size of the harrow frame.
The frame width of the disc harrow may be above or under the safe carrying limits allowed by the road traffic regulations of the country it is used. The frame is integral in the widths under the carrying limit. However, integral frames pose problems while carrying if the allowed safe carrying limit is exceeded. The disc harrows having frame widths exceeding safe carrying limits may also pose some technical problems while carrying:
• Material fatigue may occur because the frame will oscillate towards the ends due to the strong vibrations arising from the roughnesses and the holes while carrying to the location to be parked after work or carrying to the field by hanging to the three-point hitch system.
• The fatigued material poses undesirable problems such as cracking, breaking, etc. during the work in the field, and the lifetime of the agricultural instrument is negatively affected.
There are mechanisms for folding the disc harrows in the present art in order to find solutions said technical problems. However, the weight of the flaps folded on the frame and the load on the components at the folding points arising from the vibrations during carrying also pose negative results resulting from the material fatigue because the folding is carried out with 90, 135°angles.
In the prior art research, utility model no. 2011/04762 is found. The application relates to a double-acting disc harrow whose direction angles are provided by manual or double-acting hydraulic pressure according to the field conditions and soil types, whose direction angles can be arranged, and cultivating the soil by cutting movements. In the application, it is mentioned that the direction of the disc harrow may be changed by the arrangement mechanism and there is a mechanism for folding the disc harrow frame 180°.
Consequently, there is a necessity to carry out an improvement in the related art because of the drawbacks mentioned above and the inadequacy of the present solutions for said issue.
The object of the Invention
The invention is originated from the present conditions and it aims to solve the drawbacks mentioned above.
The main object of the invention is to enable the frame to be folded 180° such that the disc harrow is reduced to the safe carrying width allowed in accordance with the road traffic regulations.
The object of the invention is to enable that the load on the endpoints of the flaps are evenly distributed throughout the components at the folding points by allowing for 180°
right-angled folding on the frame and the material fatigue arising from the vibrations during carrying is decreased.
Another object of the invention is to increase the lifetime of the disc harrow using decreasing the material fatigue.
The invention comprises the elements below which are operated in connection with the tractor in order to realize the objects stated above:
• Main upper frame located on all components,
• Upper flap frames on both sides of the main upper frame (2),
• Main lower frame located on the discs with definite distances and angles,
• Lower flap frame being on both sides of the main lower frame (4) and located on the discs with definite distances and angles,
• Spring disc set cultivating the soil to carry out the agricultural work,
• Main roll and flap roll compressing the soil on the field surface and maintaining the mellowness of the soil.
The disc harrow having a hydraulic folding mechanism reducing the carrying width of the frame in order to prevent the fatigue arising from the vibrations during carrying comprises the following elements:
• Hinge plate combining the main upper frame and the upper flap frame and located on the upper flap frame,
• Hydraulic piston transforming the hydraulic energy from the hydraulic arrangement of the tractor to the mechanic energy, and
• Switchplate creating a tensile force through the mechanic energy from the hydraulic piston and enabling the upper flap frame, the lower flap frame, the spring disc set, and the flap roll to be folded onto the main upper frame with a 180° right angle by moving the hinge plate in the opposite direction through said tensile force.
The structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the invention will be better understood by the drawings and the detailed description referring to these figures below and thus, the evaluation should be made by considering these drawings and the detailed description.

Detailed Description of the Invention
In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the disc harrow with a hydraulic folding mechanism (1) of the invention is described only to understand the invention better.
As is seen in Figure 1 , the disc harrow with a hydraulic folding mechanism (1) allowing for the movement of the frame to provide the agricultural instrument with a safe carrying width allowed in accordance with the road traffic regulations comprises the main upper frame (2), the main flap frame (3), the main lower frame (4), the lower flap frame (5), the spring disc set (6), the flap roll (7), the main roll (8), the hydraulic piston (9), the hinge plate (10), the flap locking pin (11), and the switch plate (12). The disc harrow (1) is operated in connection with a tractor.
The disc harrow (1) completes the work of the plow by crumbling the clods in the plowed fields having clods, carries out stubble plowing, and chops the weeds and the plant residues. It is a towable agricultural instrument comprising spring disc set (6) all independent from each other and having the function of compressing the soil to provide an even field surface through its rolls (7, 8) and maintaining the mellowness of the soil.
The main upper frame (2) having all the elements is an integral component allowing the disc harrow (1) to be connected to the tractor. The upper flap frames (3) are the short components located at the left and the right head portions of the main upper frame (2). During the operation, the flap locking pin (11) is the connection element locking the upper flap frames (3) to the main upper frame (2).
The main lower frame (4) is the component on which the discs being the cultivating part of the disc harrow (1) are located in definite distances and angles. The lower flap frames (5) are the short components located at the left and the right head portions of the main lower frame (4). Said discs are aligned on the lower flap frame (5) in two lines independently and in definite distances and angles.
The spring disc set (6) is the component cultivating component enabling the disc harrow (1) to carry out its agricultural function.
The flap rolls (7) are the short components located at the left and the right head portions of the disc harrow (1). The flap rolls (7) compress the soil and provide an even field surface and help to maintain the mellowness of the soil. The main roll (8) is an elongated integral component at the center of the disc harrow (1). Like the flap roll (7), it provides an even field surface by compressing the soil and maintain the mellowness of the soil.
The hydraulic piston (9) enables the hydraulic folding by transforming the hydraulic energy from the hydraulic arrangement of the tractor to the mechanic energy.
The hinge plate (10) is located on said upper flap frame (3) and helps the lower flap frame (5) and the flap roll (7) to be folded onto the main upper frame (2) with a 180° right angle.
While the disc harrow (1) is passed from the operation position connected to the tractor to the carrying position (folded), the hydraulic piston (9) starts to be closed. When the hydraulic piston (9) started to be closed, the switch plate (12) moves the hinge plate (10) combining the main upper frame (2) and the upper flap frames (3) in the opposite direction; and the upper flap frame (3) and the lower flap frame (5) connected to thereof enables the spring disc sets (6) and the flap rolls (7) to be folded onto the main upper frame (2) with a 180° right angle by means of the h ydraulic piston (9).
While passing from the operation position to the carrying position, firstly the flap locking pin (11) is removed. Then, the hydraulic energy from the tractor is transformed into mechanic energy by means of the hydraulic piston (9). When the hydraulic piston (9) started to be closed, the tensile force of the switch plate (12) moves the hinge plate combining the main flap frame (3) to the main upper frame (2) in the opposite direction and they are folded onto each other with a hydraulic manner with 180° right angle, and the disc harrow (1 ) reaches a safe carrying width.
The weight of the main flap frame (3) and the lower flap frame (5) connected to thereof, the spring disc sets (6), and the flap rolls (7) are evenly distributed on the components at the folding points. Therefore, the material fatigue due to the vibrations in carrying is minimized, the problems arising from that is prevented, and the lifetime of the machine is increased.
While the disc harrow (1) is passed from the carrying position to the operation position, the switch plates (12) are pushed towards the hinge plates (10) and they are clamped when the hydraulic piston (9) started to be opened by means of the hydraulic energy. The disc harrow (1) is passed to the operation position in a safe manner by attaching the flap locking pin (11) into its location.
