  • Embodiments of the invention specifically relate to a mobile device screen protector permanently marked by etching or silk screen ink process.
  • Screen protectors come in a variety of materials, such as tempered glass and plastic, and shapes and sizes to fit a variety of mobile devices. Cases also come in a variety of materials, shapes and sizes to fit a variety of mobile devices. Additionally, cases have a variety of cosmetic designs, decorations and features that allow consumers to customize their phones and express themselves.
  • Screen protectors are an important accessory for use with a mobile device. They serve to protect the touchscreen of the mobile device from damage. While other accessories can come in a variety of cosmetic designs and appearances, a screen protector must remain transparent and clear to maintain its functional purpose. This invention allows a screen protector to become more than a protective accessory and allow for it to be customized to become visually aesthetic.
  • a screen protector and method for watermarking a touchscreen of a mobile device is provided.
  • the invention provides for a transparent film having a front and back sides, the perimeter of the screen protector completely covering the touchscreen of the mobile device, the back side having an adhesive to affix the screen protector to the touchscreen. Further, it discloses a watermark permanently applied to the back side of the film such that when the screen protector is affixed to the touchscreen, the watermark is invisible against the light of the touchscreen during active state and visible against the dark of the touchscreen during inactive state.

  • the screen protector is designed such that the perimeter of the screen protector completely covers the touch screen of the mobile device. Once fixed to the mobile device, the tempered glass screen protector mimics the smoothness of the screen of the mobile device and allow s for continued use of all touch screen functionalities of the mobile device.
  • a screen protector 200 having a watermark permanently applied to the screen protector is provided.
  • the watermark 210 can be created by etching whereby an acidic, caustic or abrasive substance comes into contact with the glass and etches away a small surface layer of the glass. This results in the etched part of the glass having a rougher feel and a translucent appearance, as opposed to the normally smooth and transparent glass.
  • the screen protectors must be a sufficient thickness to etch away a portion of the screen protector without affecting the protective qualities of the screen protector.
  • the watermark can be created by silk screen printing whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto the glass. A blade or squeegee is moved across the screen causes the screen to touch the glass surface momentarily along a line of contact. This causes the ink to adhere to the glass and be pulled out of the mesh as the screen springs back after the blade has passed.
  • a translucent ink is to mark the glass.
  • Stencils and other means can be employed to create a particular etching or silk screen printing design, whereby the stencil in the shaped of the desired design is placed over the screen protector and the etching or silk screen printing only occurs to the exposed section of the screen protector.
