Abstract

Head immobilization device and method for three-dimensional examinations are designed for the correct acquiring of the medical imaging information during various imaging investigations for diagnosing monitoring the diseases using mobile means of inspection. The assembly consists of a set of rods (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, respectively 9) and joints (a, b, c, d, e) that support and allow the positioning of a custom mouth guard (0) previously manufactured. The method allows the patient's head to be placed and immobilized lying on his back in the dental chair and his head being supported by a headrest (15) after the immobilization assembly is rotated backwards and then supports the custom mouth guard.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 19 April 2021 (19.04.2021)Claims
1. The head immobilization device intended for the correct acquisition of information for various three-dimensional medical imaging examination procedures for diagnosing and monitoring the disease of patients with the aid of mobile means of inspection is characterized by the fact that it consists of a custom mouth guard (0 ), a personalized piece, specific to each patient, manufactured based on dental arch impression where the mouth guard will be applied at a patients dental arch level, having the head supported by the headrest of the dental chair or a similar headrest and the mouth guard being locked in the Head immobilization device support assembly, consisting of rods 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9, and the component joints a, b, c, f, g, h locked as described in fig 1.
2. The head immobilization device as claimed in claim 1 wherein in the same single piece a connecting element (0 ‘) of the custom mouth guard with the patient head immobilization device for coupling with lockable articulation elements (f, respectively g) of an assembly of support rods (1, 2, respectively 3) which have the role of supporting and fixing the custom mouth guard in respect with the stand 7 which supports the spatial positioning reading system 10.
3. The head immobilization device as claimed in claim 1 wherein it comprises lockable articulation elements (a, b, c, d, respectively e) positioned at the ends of the component rods and having the possibility of sliding and rotating for two adjacent parts / rods of the assembly, the movable rods (4, respectively 5) which have the possibility of sliding to the middle or side at the level of another central rod (6) with the role of fixing the head of the patient, in respect with the stand 7 which supports the spatial positioning reading system 10, by supporting its lateral parts by forming a subassembly of framing the patient's head.
4. The head immobilization device as claimed in claim 1 wherein a connecting piece (i) which provides the connection between the custom mouth guard and the rest of the immobilization device of the examined areas of the patient makes it possible to adjust the length of the segment formed by another the rod (9) and the custom mouth guard piece (O') by sliding them, since the sliding connection piece (i) allows the length adjustment of this segment ensuring the immobilization of the custom mouth guard, in respect with the stand 7 which supports the spatial positioning reading system 10, because it is a lockable element. 10
5. The head immobilization device as claimed in claim 1 wherein a stand (7) for supporting an articulated arm (10) or other spatial positioning reading reference system, fixed at the central rod (6) in respect with the custom made mouthguard applied at patients dental arch level, generating a rigid assembly and the subassembly formed by the component rods (1) , 2, 3, 4 and 5) by means of the articulation elements (d and e) can be rotated at least 180 ° around the axis of the central rod (6).
6. The head immobilization device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the sub-assembly generated by the support rods (1, 2 and 3 respectively) can slide at the movable rods (4, respectively 5) level giving the possibility to position the custom mouth guard in vertical position, cranio-caudal in front of the patient's oral cavity, while another subassembly consisting of support rods (8, respectively 9) that support the custom mouth guard and having the possibility of lateral sliding movements through the articulated elements and the possibility of adjusting the inclination of another orientation rod (9) by a ball-type articulation element (h).
7. Method of head immobilization wherein the patient is placed in a lying position in the dental chair and his head is supported by a headrest (15) after the head immobilization device is rotated backwards to give the patient the possibility to position its head at the headrest level and the rotating back and forth of the whole head immobilization assembly is done by rotating it around the central rod (6) by means of the locking joints (d and e), the movable rods (4 and 5) will be moved to the side when applying the assembly to allow it to frame the patient's head and by rotating the assembly around the central rod (6) using lockable joints (d and e) the assembly will be brought into scanning position, by framing the patient's head while the movable rods (4 and 5) will be positioned by sliding in preauricular position and get in contact with the skin of the face where the joints (d and e) will be locked.
8. Method of head immobilization wherein at a later stage the custom mouth guard support assembly is slid in the cranio-caudal direction through the sliding joints (b and c) until the custom mouth guard is in the right direction of the patient's oral cavity and an antero posterior rotation and positioning of the custom mouth guard with the aid of the sliding joints (a and i) and the mobile joints (g, f) and the ball joint (h) so that the custom mouth guard is positioned on the occlusal surfaces teeth level.
