Abstract
This invention pertains to a hydrophilic microbial cellulose containing carrier substance (gel) for improving the condition of the intestinal mucosa. The carrier substance is characterised in that that, as a medium, it is capable of introducing high levels of substances useful to the body, such that in its composition, that is, in a gel consisting of 100 g of microbial cellulose fibres, is found, by way of pulping, a network of amorphous fibres at least 5% of which have a particle size of 500 nm, which network consists of nanofibres 1-2 nm in thickness and 50-60 nm in width. Because their surfaces are hydrophilic, these nanofibres are capable of retaining large quantities of water and are therefore well-adapted to adsorbing probiotics, active chemical ingredients, and active hydrogen for introduction into the mucosa of the large intestine.
