- the network device 101 can perform wireless communication with the terminal device 103 through one or more antennas. Each network device 101 can provide communication coverage for its corresponding coverage 107.
- the coverage 107 corresponding to the network device 101 may be divided into multiple sectors, where one sector corresponds to a part of the coverage (not shown).
- the network device 101 may be divided into one or more cells, and each cell has its own frequency band in which it is located, and different cells may have the same frequency band or different frequency bands. Among them, the sector is a geographical concept, and the cell is a logical concept.

- the primary cell (PCell) of the terminal device For a certain terminal device, only one cell among multiple cells on the network device is the primary cell (PCell) of the terminal device, and other cells may be all or part of the secondary cell (SCell) of the terminal.
- the accessed cell is the terminal's primary cell.
- the terminal needs to report the CA capabilities it supports (for example, CA combination list) to the network device.
- the network device learns which frequency bands the terminal supports based on the CA capabilities reported by the terminal, and then selects several secondary cells for the terminal from the secondary cells of the terminal's primary cell as the terminal The secondary cell of the terminal.
- the network device includes three cells, namely cell 1, cell 2 and cell 3, wherein the frequency band where cell 1 is located is band1, the frequency band where cell 2 is located is band2, and the frequency band where cell 3 is located is band3.
- the network device pre-configures the secondary cell of cell 1 to include cell 2 and cell 3, and the secondary cell of cell 2 includes cell 1 and cell 3.
- the cell that the terminal accesses when accessing the network is cell 1, and this cell 1 is the primary cell of the terminal.
- the network device sends to the terminal the CA frequency bands (band2 and band3) where the secondary cells (ie, cell 2 and cell 3) of the primary cell are located. After receiving the CA frequency band, the terminal matches the CA combination it supports.
- the CA combination list sent by the terminal to the network device includes band1+band2.
- the network device learns the CA capability of the terminal according to the CA combination list reported by the terminal, and configures the cell 2 as the secondary cell of the terminal for the terminal.
- the frequency band supported by the operator is different from the frequency band supported by the cell.
- the frequency bands supported by the cell are a subset of the frequency bands supported by the operator.
- the number of frequency bands supported by the cell is smaller than the frequency bands supported by the operator.
- the frequency band (band) supported by an operator includes band1 to band10
- the frequency band supported by a network device (such as a base station) deployed by the operator includes band1, band2, and band3, and the network device deploys cells in these three frequency bands
- the frequency band of a certain cell is band1, which shows that the number of frequency bands supported by the cell is less than or equal to the number of frequency bands supported by the network device, and the number of frequency bands supported by the cell is less than the number of frequency bands supported by the operator.
- the network device 101 may include: evolved Node B (evolved NodeB, eNB, or eNodeB), or next-generation Node B (gNB), and so on.
- the wireless communication system 100 may include several different types of network devices 101, such as a macro base station (macro base station), a micro base station (micro base station), and so on.

- SIB system information blocks
- PCell Primary cell
- the primary cell is a cell working on the primary frequency band.
- the UE performs the initial RRC connection establishment process in the cell, or starts the RRC connection re-establishment process.
- the UE will select a suitable cell (such as the cell with the strongest signal), receive the system information of the cell, and prepare for attachment.
- the UE will then establish an RRC connection with the cell.
- a suitable cell such as the cell with the strongest signal
- FIG. 2A For a schematic diagram of the RRC connection process, see FIG. 2A. among them:
- Step 1 The UE sends a random access preamble (Preamble, Preamble) message (also called msg1) to a network device (such as gNB).
- the Preamble message contains a random access preamble sequence preamble selected by the UE.
- Step 2 After receiving the preamble sent by the UE, the network device sends an RRC random access response (also called msg2) to the UE in the random access response window.
- RRC random access response also called msg2
- Step 3 After receiving the RRC random access response, the UE sends an RRC connection establishment request (also called msg3) on the uplink resources allocated by the network device.
- RRC connection establishment request also called msg3
- Step 4 The network device sends an RRC connection establishment message (also called msg4) to the terminal.
- RRC connection establishment message also called msg4
- Step 5 After the contention resolution is completed, the UE establishes a signaling radio bearer according to the information in the RRC connection establishment message, and sends an RRC connection establishment complete message to the network device.
- the network device After receiving the RRC connection establishment complete message, the network device triggers the core network to establish the control plane connection and the user plane connection of the terminal.
- the network device may be divided into one or more cells, and the cell that establishes the RRC connection with the UE is the PCell.
- Secondary cell A secondary cell is a cell that works on a secondary frequency band. Once the RRC connection is established, the network side can configure one or more secondary cells for the UE, and the secondary cells can provide the UE with additional wireless resources.
- Serving cell A UE in RRC connected state, if no CA is configured, there is only one serving cell. If the UE is configured with CA, the serving cell set includes PCell and SCell.
- CA Carrier aggregation
- CC carrier units
- the maximum bandwidth of each CC can be, for example 20MHz.
- CA supports aggregation between different CCs. As shown in Figure 2B. Among them, adjacent CC aggregation in the same frequency band is supported. That is, the terminal can perform data transmission on adjacent carriers in the same frequency band. Support non-adjacent CC aggregation in the same frequency band. That is, the terminal can perform data transmission on non-adjacent carriers in the same frequency band. Support CC aggregation in different frequency bands.
- the terminal can perform data transmission on carriers in different frequency bands.
- the frequency band A in FIG. 2B can be understood as the frequency band where the primary cell of the UE is located, and the frequency band B can be understood as the frequency band where a certain secondary cell of the UE is located.
- the frequency band for CA aggregation should be the primary and secondary relationship. That is, CA aggregation may be aggregation between adjacent or disconnected CCs in the frequency band where the primary cell is located, or between CCs in the frequency band where the primary cell is located and CCs in the frequency band where the secondary cell is located.
- Source cell and target cell When the UE performs mobile handover, it is switched from one cell to another. Then, the cell connected before the UE handover is the source cell, and the cell connected after the UE handover is the target cell.
- the source cell and the target cell may be different cells on the same base station (that is, cell switching of the same base station), or may be cells on two base stations (that is, cell switching across base stations), which is not limited in this application. It should be noted that both the source cell and the target cell should be understood as the primary cell.
- the target base station may also configure one or more secondary cells for the UE.
- the terminal when registering the network, the terminal sends the CA combination it supports to the serving base station, and the serving base station determines the CA combination capability of the terminal according to the CA combination reported by the terminal. And the serving base station saves the CA combination it supports in the received CA combination to the CA capability configuration table, activates one of the CA combinations, and sends the activation parameter to the terminal.
- the terminal will gradually support CAs of 3 component carriers (CC), 4 CCs, and 5 CCs, and the long-term evolution (LTE) frequency bands supported by the terminal also As the number of CA combinations reported by the terminal increases exponentially, the complexity of frequency band combinations also increases.
- CC component carriers
- LTE long-term evolution
- this application proposes a method for reporting the terminal capability. For example, when a terminal accesses a network, it receives CA information delivered by a network device, and the CA information is a CA combination or a list of CA frequency bands supported by the network device itself.
- the terminal screens the CA information supported by the terminal itself based on the CA information delivered by the network device, selects CA combinations supported by the network device and also supports the terminal itself, and then reports the screened CA combination list to the network device. It avoids that the terminal only reports CA capabilities based on the CA combinations it supports, resulting in too many CA combinations being reported. In addition, since the CA combination reported by the terminal is supported by the network device, the success rate of the terminal's network access can be improved.
- a method for determining the carrier aggregation capability of a terminal includes but is not limited to the following steps:
- the network device sends the CA information of the cell to the terminal, and the terminal receives the CA information of the cell sent by the network device.
- the CA information includes a list of CA frequency bands where the secondary cell of the cell is located.
- the terminal sends a second CA combination list to the network device.
- the network device receives the second CA combination list sent by the terminal.
- the second CA combination list is a combination of the CA frequency band of the secondary cell of the cell and the CA combination supported by the terminal itself. Determined, the second CA combination list is used by the network device to determine the CA capability of the terminal.
- the cell is a cell that the terminal is ready to access or is accessing. This cell can be understood as the main cell (PCell).
- the secondary cell is a secondary cell configured in advance by the network device for the primary cell. For example, in the initial network access process, a cell that is ready to establish an RRC connection process with a terminal or has established an RRC connection process is the primary cell.
- the PCell that has established an RRC connection with the terminal sends CA information to the terminal through the network device (eg, base station) where it is located.
- the CA information includes a list of frequency bands where the secondary cell (SCell) configured by the network device for the PCell is located.
- the CA information may also include the frequency band where the PCell is located.
- the CA information may not include the frequency band where the PCell is located. Since the PCell is a cell that the terminal is planning to access or is accessing, the terminal knows the frequency band where the primary cell is located.
- the second CA combination list sent by the terminal to the network device may be all combinations of CA combinations determined by the terminal based on the CA frequency band lists where the primary cell and the secondary cell are located and CA combinations supported by the terminal itself, or all combinations. Part of the combination. For example, a part of the combination of all the combinations has been reported before, so this time it is not necessary to report this part of the combination again.
- the frequency band (band) where the primary cell is located is band1
- the secondary cell configured by the network device for the primary cell includes two
- the frequency bands where the two secondary cells are located are band2 and band3, respectively.
- the primary cell sends band2 and band3 to the terminal through the network device where it is located.
- the CA combination supported by the terminal itself includes band1+band2, band1+band3, band2+band4+band5, and band3+band4. Therefore, when matching and filtering CA combinations supported by the terminal, the terminal may perform filtering based on the three frequency bands where the primary cell and the secondary cell are located.
- the second CA combination determined by the terminal includes band1+band2, band1+ band3. Therefore, the CA combination reported by the terminal is closely related to the current primary cell and the secondary cell of the primary cell, and the CA combination corresponding to the CA frequency band of other cells except the current primary cell and the secondary cell of the primary cell is eliminated. Compared with the prior art, the number of CA combinations reported by the UE in this application is reduced.
- the above steps S301 and S302 may be implemented based on the RRC connection establishment process. Specifically, for a partial flowchart of the RRC connection establishment process, refer to FIG. 2A.
- the network device may send the CA frequency band list where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through the RRC connection establishment message in step four.
- the terminal may send the determined second CA combination list to the network device through the RRC connection establishment complete message in step 5.
- the CA combination carried by the UE in the UE capability information message (such as UE-EUTRA-Capability message) sent to the network device is the second CA combination list.
- the network device will actively send a UE capability query request to the terminal to request the UE to report its capability.

- the network device After receiving the indication information, the network device sends a UE capability query request to the terminal, and after receiving the UE capability query request, the UE sends a UE capability information message (such as a UE-EUTRA-Capability message) to the network device, the UE capability information
- the message carries the above-mentioned second CA combination list.

- the network device may send the CA frequency band list where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through an RRC connection establishment message, and the subsequent terminal may send the second CA combination list to the network device through a message newly defined in the protocol.
- the above steps S301 and S302 may be implemented based on the RRC connection reestablishment process.
- the process includes the following steps, where step one: the terminal sends an RRC connection reestablishment request to the network device.
- the network device may send the CA frequency band list where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through the RRC connection reestablishment message in step two.
- the terminal may send the determined second CA combination list to the network device through the RRC connection re-establishment completion message in step three.
- the network device may send the CA frequency band list where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through an RRC connection reestablishment message, and the subsequent terminal may send the second CA combination list to the network device through a newly defined message in the protocol.
- the network device sends a list of CA frequency bands where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through an RRC connection reestablishment message. After receiving the RRC connection reestablishment message, the terminal sends indication information to the network device, which is used to instruct the network device to query the UE Ability.
- the network device After receiving the indication information, the network device sends a UE capability query request to the terminal, and after receiving the UE capability query request, the UE sends a UE capability information message (such as a UE-EUTRA-Capability message) to the network device, the UE capability information
- a UE capability information message (such as a UE-EUTRA-Capability message) to the network device, the UE capability information
- the message carries the above-mentioned second CA combination list.
- the network device sends the list of CA frequency bands where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through a system message.
- the network device carries the list of CA frequency bands where the secondary cell of the cell is located in the SIB message and sends it to the UE.

- the terminal may trigger the network device to query the capabilities of the UE, and the terminal sends indication information to the network device to instruct the network device to query the capabilities of the UE.
- the network device After receiving the indication information, the network device sends a UE capability query request to the terminal.
- the terminal After receiving the UE capability query request, the terminal carries the second CA combination list in the UE capability information message and sends it to the network device.
- the terminal reports the newly determined second CA combination list to the network device when the CA combination list that has changed from the previously reported CA combination list changes.
- the network device may send the list of CA frequency bands where the secondary cell of the cell is located to the terminal through a message newly defined in the protocol.
- the network device After receiving the second CA combination list sent by the terminal, the network device learns the CA capability of the terminal according to the second CA combination list, and then can select several secondary cells from the secondary cells configured as the primary cell as the secondary cell of the terminal .
- the network device includes three cells, namely cell 1, cell 2 and cell 3, wherein the frequency band where cell 1 is located is band1, the frequency band where cell 2 is located is band2, and the frequency band where cell 3 is located is band3.

- the second CA combination list sent by the terminal to the network device includes band1+band2.
- the network device learns that the terminal supports band1+band2 and does not support band1+band3 according to the second CA combination list reported by the terminal, and configures the cell 2 as the secondary cell of the terminal for the terminal.
- the terminal determines the CA combination list by combining the CA frequency band where the secondary cell of the cell being accessed or has accessed and the CA combination supported by the terminal itself.
- the CA combination list included in the determined CA combination list The number is less than or equal to the number of all CA combinations supported by the terminal itself. Abstract
