Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a welding assembly for obtaining continuous weldings for a food packaging machine.
  • food means long or short pasta, biscuits, rice, sweets, chocolates and more.
  • a type of package currently very appreciated by the consumer is that obtained from plastic film with vertical weldings, i.e. with the side surface having evident welded folds which develop vertically in the final filled package.
  • packages are obtained with vertical weldings (preferably from one to five weldings), with or without a square bottom.
  • the vertical weldings in addition to giving an original appearance which resembles a parallelepiped, allow the package to be reinforced, thus allowing it to be kept standing on the shelves.
  • the packages with vertical weldings are currently obtained in complex packaging machines which comprise a forming tube defining a volume starting from a flat plastic film.
  • the weldings are carried out in the forming tube with a discontinuous process which heavily slows down the production and does not ensure an accurate welding.
  • said welding assembly may be mounted onto known packaging machines.
  • said welding assembly is simple to be manufactured and does not damage the plastic film during the welding operation.
  • an assembly for welding a plastic film for a food packaging machine characterized in that it comprises a folding device and a welding device, the folding device comprises at least one upper folding block and at least one lower folding block facing each other so that the plastic film passes therebetween, said at least one upper folding block and at least one lower folding block having sliding surfaces adapted to obtain a linear fold during the sliding of the plastic film,
  • the welding device comprises at least one welding plate, which is movable between a resting position and a position for welding the linear fold of the plastic film obtained by means of the folding device.
  • the plastic film which is still substantially flat, has linear weldings which will correspond to the vertical weldings of the bag after the forming operation.
  • the welding operation also occurs continuously and simultaneously on several linear sections of the plastic film, before the plastic film itself passes into the forming tube.
  • Figure 1 shows a top plan view of a packaging machine
  • Figure 2 shows a side view of the packaging machine
  • Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a welding assembly according to the present invention
  • Figure 4 shows a top plan view of the welding assembly, with an enlarged detail in circle A;
  • Figure 5 shows a front view of the welding assembly
  • Figure 6 shows a side view of the welding assembly
  • Figure 7 shows a rear view of the welding assembly
  • Figure 8 shows a first perspective view of the welding assembly without a folding device
  • Figure 9 shows a second perspective view of the welding assembly without the folding device
  • Figure 10 shows a side view of the welding assembly without the folding device
  • Figure 11 shows a perspective view of a first package obtained by means of the welding assembly
  • Figure 12 shows a perspective view of a second package obtained by means of the welding assembly.
  • a machine 1 for packaging food such as long or short pasta, biscuits, rice, sweets, chocolates and more, comprises a supporting frame 2 on which a welding assembly 3, operating on a sliding plastic film 50 fed by a coil assembly 40 placed under said welding assembly 3 (figures 1 and 2), is laterally mounted.
  • the welding assembly 3 comprises a folding device 4 and a welding device 5.
  • the welding assembly 3 shown more in detail in figures 3-12, comprises side brackets 6 adapted to be fastened to the frame 2 of the packaging machine 1, and horizontal bars 7 supported by said side brackets 6.
  • the folding device 4 (figures 3-5) is adapted to simultaneously obtain a plurality of linear folds on the plastic film 50, and comprises two side brackets 10 which are integral with said side brackets 6 and rigidly connected to each other by means of two pairs of horizontal bars, a pair of upper horizontal bars 111 and a pair of lower horizontal bars 112.
  • folding blocks are associated with each pair of horizontal bars 111, 112, in particular four upper folding blocks 121 and four lower folding blocks 122.
  • Each upper folding block 121 faces a lower folding block 122 so that the plastic film 50 passes therebetween.
  • Each lower folding block 122 has a sliding surface 13 of the plastic film
  • the first profile 131 is flat while the second profile 132 increases with respect to said first profile 131, i.e. it tends to lift the plastic film 50 with respect to the sliding direction defined by the first profile 131 (see circle A of figure 4).
  • Each upper folding block 121 has a flat sliding surface 14 adapted to face said first profile 131 of the lower folding block 122.
  • the upper folding block 121 further includes an idle roller 150 which rests on said first profile 131, the plastic film 50 sliding between said roller 150 and the first profile 131.
  • the shape and assembly of the folding blocks 121, 122 allows to simultaneously obtain four linear folds of the plastic film 50. It is obviously possible to vary the number of simultaneous linear folds by adding or removing pairs of folding blocks 121, 122.
  • the folding device 4 further comprises arms 82 fastened at one end on the horizontal bars 111, 112, while at a second end of the arms 82 it is provided a roller 83 which connects the two arms 82.
  • the folding device 4 further comprises a central roller 160 fastened to the upper horizontal bars 111 by means of a spacer 11.

Description

“Welding assembly for obtaining continuous weldings for a food packaging machine”.
* * * *
The present invention relates to a welding assembly for obtaining continuous weldings for a food packaging machine.
For example, food means long or short pasta, biscuits, rice, sweets, chocolates and more.
Functional requirements, but also aesthetic demands, have led to a multiplication of packages, with important modifications to the machinery for obtaining and filling the packages.
A type of package currently very appreciated by the consumer is that obtained from plastic film with vertical weldings, i.e. with the side surface having evident welded folds which develop vertically in the final filled package.
In particular, packages are obtained with vertical weldings (preferably from one to five weldings), with or without a square bottom.
The vertical weldings, in addition to giving an original appearance which resembles a parallelepiped, allow the package to be reinforced, thus allowing it to be kept standing on the shelves.
The packages with vertical weldings are currently obtained in complex packaging machines which comprise a forming tube defining a volume starting from a flat plastic film.
The weldings are carried out in the forming tube with a discontinuous process which heavily slows down the production and does not ensure an accurate welding.
Disadvantageously, packages with inaccurate weldings are obtained, which often do not stand up once filled with food.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a welding assembly for obtaining weldings on a plastic film for food packaging machines.
It is a further object of the present invention that said welding assembly may be mounted onto known packaging machines.
It is still a further object of the present invention that said welding assembly is simple to be manufactured and does not damage the plastic film during the welding operation.
According to the invention, said and further objects are achieved by an assembly for welding a plastic film for a food packaging machine, characterized in that it comprises a folding device and a welding device, the folding device comprises at least one upper folding block and at least one lower folding block facing each other so that the plastic film passes therebetween, said at least one upper folding block and at least one lower folding block having sliding surfaces adapted to obtain a linear fold during the sliding of the plastic film,
the welding device comprises at least one welding plate, which is movable between a resting position and a position for welding the linear fold of the plastic film obtained by means of the folding device.
Advantageously, the plastic film, which is still substantially flat, has linear weldings which will correspond to the vertical weldings of the bag after the forming operation.
Like the folding operation, the welding operation also occurs continuously and simultaneously on several linear sections of the plastic film, before the plastic film itself passes into the forming tube.
These and other features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description of a practical embodiment thereof, shown for non-limiting purposes, in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a top plan view of a packaging machine;
Figure 2 shows a side view of the packaging machine;
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a welding assembly according to the present invention;
Figure 4 shows a top plan view of the welding assembly, with an enlarged detail in circle A;
Figure 5 shows a front view of the welding assembly;
Figure 6 shows a side view of the welding assembly;
Figure 7 shows a rear view of the welding assembly;
Figure 8 shows a first perspective view of the welding assembly without a folding device;
Figure 9 shows a second perspective view of the welding assembly without the folding device;
Figure 10 shows a side view of the welding assembly without the folding device;
Figure 11 shows a perspective view of a first package obtained by means of the welding assembly;
Figure 12 shows a perspective view of a second package obtained by means of the welding assembly.
A machine 1 for packaging food, such as long or short pasta, biscuits, rice, sweets, chocolates and more, comprises a supporting frame 2 on which a welding assembly 3, operating on a sliding plastic film 50 fed by a coil assembly 40 placed under said welding assembly 3 (figures 1 and 2), is laterally mounted.
The welding assembly 3 comprises a folding device 4 and a welding device 5.
The welding assembly 3, shown more in detail in figures 3-12, comprises side brackets 6 adapted to be fastened to the frame 2 of the packaging machine 1, and horizontal bars 7 supported by said side brackets 6.
The folding device 4 (figures 3-5) is adapted to simultaneously obtain a plurality of linear folds on the plastic film 50, and comprises two side brackets 10 which are integral with said side brackets 6 and rigidly connected to each other by means of two pairs of horizontal bars, a pair of upper horizontal bars 111 and a pair of lower horizontal bars 112.
Four folding blocks are associated with each pair of horizontal bars 111, 112, in particular four upper folding blocks 121 and four lower folding blocks 122.
Each upper folding block 121 faces a lower folding block 122 so that the plastic film 50 passes therebetween.
Each lower folding block 122 has a sliding surface 13 of the plastic film
50 comprising a first profile 131 and a second profile 132.
The first profile 131 is flat while the second profile 132 increases with respect to said first profile 131, i.e. it tends to lift the plastic film 50 with respect to the sliding direction defined by the first profile 131 (see circle A of figure 4).
Each upper folding block 121 has a flat sliding surface 14 adapted to face said first profile 131 of the lower folding block 122.
The upper folding block 121 further includes an idle roller 150 which rests on said first profile 131, the plastic film 50 sliding between said roller 150 and the first profile 131.
The shape and assembly of the folding blocks 121, 122 allows to simultaneously obtain four linear folds of the plastic film 50. It is obviously possible to vary the number of simultaneous linear folds by adding or removing pairs of folding blocks 121, 122.
The folding device 4 further comprises arms 82 fastened at one end on the horizontal bars 111, 112, while at a second end of the arms 82 it is provided a roller 83 which connects the two arms 82.
The folding device 4 further comprises a central roller 160 fastened to the upper horizontal bars 111 by means of a spacer 11.
The welding device 5, as clearly seen in figures 8-10, comprises four welding plates 12 rotatably associated with respective blocks 18 fastened to the horizontal bars 7.
Respective hydraulic pistons 19 are adapted to move the welding plates 12 between a resting position and a welding position.
The welding assembly 3 further comprises an idle roller 17 and a control roller 15 driven by a motor 16 and adapted to move the plastic film 50 between the folding device 4 and the welding device 5 and then towards a forming tube of the packaging machine 1.
As for the operation, the control roller 15 draws the plastic film 50 from the roller 83; the plastic film 50 is inserted between the folding blocks 121,
122 pressed by the roller 160.
The lifting of the second profile 132 with respect to the flat development of the first profile 131 and of the sliding surface 14 of the upper folding block 121 results in the continuous linear fold of linear portions of plastic film 50 (circle A of Figure 4).
In the embodiment shown in the drawings, four linear folds are simultaneously obtained, the number of folds varying based on the number of pairs of folding blocks 121, 122.
The folding device 4 prepares the plastic film 50 for the following welding step in the welding device 5.
The roller 15 continuously moves the plastic film 50 with the four folds facing the welding plates 12.
At predetermined time intervals, the pistons 19 rotate the welding plates 12 from the resting position to the welding position in which the welding plates 12 come into contact with the linear folds of the plastic film 50, thus turning and welding them (on the inner side). A movement for returning the welding plates 12 to the resting position and a subsequent new movement back towards the welding position follow. The welding plates 12 go and move away intermittently to wards/ from the roller 15.
The welding plates 12 have a circular arc shape so as to be coupled to the roller 15 with the plastic film 50 interposed.
Advantageously, the plastic film 50, still being substantially flat, has four linear weldings which will correspond to the four vertical weldings of the bag after the forming operation.
Like the folding operation, the welding operation also occurs continuously and simultaneously on several linear sections of the plastic film 50, before the plastic film 50 itself passes into the forming tube.
The folding and welding steps are controlled by a control unit of the packaging machine to which the user has access.
The welding assembly 3 may obtain a variable number of linear weldings, preferably from one to five, based on the number of folding blocks 121, 122 and on the number of welding plates 12.
Figures 11, 12 show two packages 100 for short and long pasta obtained by means of a packaging machine 1 comprising said welding assembly 3.
Each package 100 includes a bottom 102, a head 103 and a side wall
104.
The side wall 104 consists of four portions 141.
Between two adjacent portions 141, a flap 105 can be noticed, which ends on head 103 and bottom 102.
The packages 100 shown in Figures 11, 12 include four flaps 105, i.e. four linear weldings.
Advantageously, the flaps 105 do not protrude, thus facilitating the production of head 103 and bottom 102.
The flaps 105 are substantially coplanar with the portions 141 of the side wall 4.
