- a filter of a filter cigarette is made from a cellulose acetate filter plug material. It is known for such a filter to have an object embedded within it. For example, a rupturable flavourant-containing capsule. Smoke from the cigarette may be selectively flavoured by squeezing the filter, thereby rupturing the capsule and releasing the flavourant. Capsules are inserted into the filter during the cigarette manufacturing stage.
