- Counterfeit products are often difficult to detect and are typically of inferior quality.
- Counterfeit products have an adverse impact on both consumers and manufacturers, and could even be harmful and/or dangerous to unsuspecting consumers.
- Manufacturers attempt to discourage and prevent counterfeiting through various techniques. For example, some manufacturers of products targeted by counterfeiters have utilized specific markings, holograms, stamps, or other features on their products. Nevertheless, these techniques can typically be circumvented by counterfeiters.

Abstract
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé d'authentification d'un article. Le système contient un matériau photoluminescent situé sur ou dans un substrat et pouvant absorber un rayonnement incident provenant d'une source de rayonnement et émettre un rayonnement émis ayant une signature spectrale avec un temps de décroissance après la suppression de la source de rayonnement. L'invention concerne également un dispositif de photo-authentification pouvant être placé en contact avec le substrat et contenant la source de rayonnement et une caméra. En association avec la délivrance du rayonnement incident et la mesure du rayonnement émis, le dispositif de photo-authentification est déplacé en translation sur toute la largeur du substrat lorsque le dispositif de photo-authentification est placé en contact avec le substrat. Après la translation sur toute la largeur ou au-dessus du substrat et lorsque la source de rayonnement ne délivre pas de rayonnement incident, le dispositif de photo-authentification est statique par rapport au substrat et la caméra est située au-dessus du matériau photoluminescent émettant le rayonnement émis lorsque le rayonnement émis est mesuré.
