Definitions
- the present invention relates to a transparent active substance release composition
- a transparent active substance release composition comprising at least one matrix material, one or more surfactant(s), and an active substance or mixture of two or more active substances, one or more filler/bulk agents, one or more disintegrant.
- the present invention relates to an active substance release composition that can be prepared and optionally shaped, preferably extruded or melted, in a variety of shapes by using various processes such as mixing, melting or extruding.
- the present invention relates to a product comprising an active substance release composition according to the invention and a method for producing such an active substance release composition or product as well as its use to impart fragrance or other active substances to air or to fabric and combination products.
- Scent boosters are products which are used to give off a scent for example to fabric such as clothes during laundry or in order to freshen the air in a room or other enclosed spaces such as the inside of a car, a closet or a dishwasher or to impart a fragrance to an object.
- Conventional scent boosters are prepared on the basis of melted polyethylene glycol (PEG), which is formed into beads or pastilles of a few millimeters in diameter to be used as a washing additive.
- the particles usually, dissolve quickly during the laundry cycle and impart as scent to the laundry, which ideally remains after washing and drying for up to several days.
- such compositions may also give off their scent over an extended period of time without being dissolved in water but merely left in contact with air and thus be used as air fresheners.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an active substance release composition in transparent form and a method for its production and can be preferably produced in different attractive formats, different consistencies like solid, liquid, semisolid (gel, cream, ointment) or combination of them and shapes.
- a further objective is to provide an active substance release composition with a simple production and using cost-effective ingredients, which is also easy to handle and can be used over a wide temperature range.
- Even another object of the present invention is to provide an active substance release composi- tion which can be easily adapted to various consumer requirements, loading with e.g. fragrances etc., and which is also suitable for hand laundry.
- an active substance release composition comprising or consisting of: i) at least one matrix material, ii) one or more surfactant(s), iii) an active substance or mixture of two or more active substances, iv) at least one filler, v) at least one disintegrating agent, and vi) optionally at least one additive, wherein the composition is transparent.
- the composition is transparent, if at least 30 % of the visible light (400 to 700 nm) passes through the composition (thickness 1 cm) without being reflected or absorbed.
- the transparency of the composition is measured by its total transmittance. Total transmittance is the ratio of transmitted light to the incident light.
- the transparency of the composition is at least 30 %, more preferably at least 50 %, further preferred more than 70 %. In a more preferred embodiment of the present invention, the transparency of the composition is in the range of 70 to 80 %.
- an active substance release composition preferably an active substance release composition according to the invention.
- the method comprises the hereafter listed steps or consists of the hereafter listed steps: a) providing the components i) to vi) as defined above, b) combining the components provided in step a), c) mixing the combined components to obtain a homogenous mixture, d) optionally extruding and/or melting the and/or injection melting homogenous mixture (preferably though a desired shape (e.g.
- step c) obtained in step c) at a temperature from 10 to 80 °C, preferably from 15 to 50 °C, particularly preferably from 20 to 30 °C, and e) optionally processing and/or packaging the mixture resulting from step c) or the extru- date or melted mixture resulting from step d).
- the method according to the invention is easily performed and requires minimal effort regarding the used devices, the energy demand as well as the know-how of the correct performance of the procedure.
- the obtained active substance release composition can be produced in various forms and with various colours or combinations of forms and colours, by which a recognition by the consumer and, where applicable, a signal effect with regard to the used ingredients can be achieved. Additionally, the active substance release composition can readily be varied for different markets so that different consumer requirements can readily be satisfied.
- the composition is comprising or consisting of: i) 10 to 97 parts by weight, preferably 20 to 60 parts by weight of at least one matrix material, ii) 2 to 50 parts by weight, preferably 5 to 30 parts by weight of one or more surfactants), iii) 1 to 40 parts by weight, preferably 2 to 20 parts by weight of an active substance or mixture of two or more active substances. iv) 1 to 10 parts by weight of one or more fillers, and v) 1 to 5 parts by weight of one or more disintegrating agents.
- the active substance release composition does not only consist of the previously mentioned components, but also comprises further components
- the parts by weight information are preferably understood as“wt.-%” information, related to 100 wt.-% of the active substance release composition.
