Description
A CONNECTING ELEMENT FOR VERTICAL WIND TUNNEL
Field of the Invention
Invention relates to vertical wind tunnels, especially to connecting elements used for fastening different kind of parts of vertical wind tunnels in a secure and effective way.
Background of the Invention
Many different fasteners are used for assembling vertical wind tunnels. The most typical fasteners used for assembling are screws, clips, buttons, snap fasteners, hook and eye closures as well as hook and loop fasteners, such as Velcro® fasteners. Many of these fasteners or connecting elements are used for assembling metal frame structures of the vertical wind tunnel. But some fasteners are used for fastening such elements as safety mattresses or cushions, different kind of covers and upholstery elements. Many vertical wind tunnels are mobile vertical wind tunnels and requires that their assembly and dismantling is easy but in the same time without compromising a safety. Therefore, the industry is looking for reliable and safe connecting means or fasteners.
Summary of the Invention
The aim of the invention is to design a connecting element or fastener which is secure, reliable and effective for assembling and dismantling vertical wind tunnels. The connecting element should be strong enough to withstand forces acting on vertical wind tunnel but easy enough to be opened or closed for assembling and dismantling of vertical wind tunnel.
The aim is reached by design of new type of connecting element or fastener for connecting various parts of a vertical wind tunnel. The connecting element comprises a first strap comprising a first end attached to a member or part to be fastened and a free end covered with hooks from both sides. The connecting element further comprises a second strap comprising two strips comprising first ends attached to another member or part to be fastened and respective free ends covered with loops on sides opposed to each other. When the free end of the first strap is inserted between the free ends of the two strips and the free ends of the two
strips are pressed together having the free end of the first strap therebetween, fastening of both members or parts of the vertical wind tunnel is performed.
The present invention provides reliable fastening in all directions. During use of the vertical wind tunnel such elements like covers, safety mattresses move and provide stress on connecting elements. The present invention is able to withstand a force applied in multiple directions, which prior art fasteners cannot provide. In the same time the present invention provides easy assembling and dismantling as it does not require special skills for opening or closing the connecting element.
The free ends of the both straps may be covered by loops or respective hooks.
The first end of the first strap is attached to the member to be fastened or the first ends two strips is attached to the member may be fastened by sewing or by use of adhesives.
The members or parts to be fastened may be any pair of parts of the vertical wind tunnel to be fastened. In one embodiment, the members or parts to be fastened is a mattress cover of the vertical wind tunnel and another member to be fastened is a wind flow channel enclosing cover. In another embodiment, the member to be fastened is one mattress of the vertical wind tunnel and another member to be fastened is another mattress of the vertical wind tunnel. As long as the skilled person uses the principle of the present invention, the skilled person may use it for fastening various parts of the vertical wind tunnel in a secure and reliable manner.
Brief Description of the Drawings
Fig. l is a cross sectional view of a connecting element according to the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of a vertical wind tunnel and implementation of connecting elements in the vertical wind tunnel.
Fig. 3 is close-up view, partially in section, from Fig. 2 illustrating a connecting element 20 for fastening together two safety mattresses 43 and 44.
Fig. 4 is a close-up view from Fig. 3 illustrating the connecting element 20.
Detailed of the Invention
Fig. 1 illustrates in a cross sectional view a connecting element 20 according to the present invention. The connecting element 20 comprises a first strap 1 and a second strap 10 which are connected together by the new type of hook and loop arrangement.
The first strap 1 comprises a first end 2 and a free end 4. The first end 2 is attached to a member 3 to be fastened. The free end 4 is covered with hooks 5 from both sides. The hooks are Velcro® type hooks 5.
The second strap 10 comprises two strips 11 and 12. Each strip 11 and 12 comprises respective first end 13 and 14, where both first ends 13 and 14 are attached to another member 33 to be fastened. The strips 11 and 12 comprise respective free ends 15 and 16. The free ends 15 and 16 are covered with loops 17 on sides opposed to each other. When the free end 4 of the first strap 1 is inserted between the free ends 15 and 16 of the two strips 11 and 12, and the free ends 15 and 16 of the two strips 11 and 12 are pressed together having the free end 4 of the first strap 1 therebetween, a secure and reliable fastening is created between both members 3 and 33.
Fig. 2 to 4 illustrates implementation of the connecting element 20 in the vertical wind tunnel. The connecting element 20 provides a fastening of one safety mattress 43 to another safety mattress 44. During normal use of the vertical wind tunnel the connecting element 20 is not seen as the mattresses 43 and 44 as well as connecting element 20 are covered by a cover 40. In use, two strips 11 and 12 of the second strap 10 are pressed with the first strap 1 therebetween creating reliable and secure connection.
While the invention has been described with reference to certain embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes may be made and equivalents may be substituted without departing from the scope of the invention. Therefore, it is intended that the inventions not be limited to the particular embodiments disclosed herein.
