Definitions
- the invention relates to surgical instruments such as scissors having a cutting function between two arms thereof, needle holders, forceps and clamps having gripping, grasping, clamping and releasing functions between two arms thereof etc., which are developed to be able to form an angle for use in the surgical field.
- Needle holders are used for suturing and for grabbing and gripping the tissues and various surgical materials in the surgical field as well as suturing process. Forceps are used to grip and/or clamp the tissues and vessels during surgical operations. On the other hand they can be used to remove the baby during some birth processes.
- the procedure can often be performed without difficulty. However, it can be very difficult to operate a very narrow and constricted surgical area in the case of emergency and patients with heavy bleeding. In some cases, the surgeon has just one chance to intervene and it is vital that the operation is performed in a single move.
- a multi-purpose clamp structure which comprises a cap exchanging apparatus allowing the desired cap to be attached to the flexible clamp, and a cap adjusting area located between a clamp handle allowing the attached vessel holder to be adjusted with the desired opening and a flexible rope, and which has a replaceable cap used in order to make the surgical field of view wider and to minimize the tool usage in the minimal invasive surgeries.
- Surgical Scissors with Adjustable Tips disclosed is a pair of scissors structure which is characterized by at least two scissors; at least two handles, two ends of which are fastened to the scissors tips, for gripping and using the scissors; at least two drawing apparatus that allows the scissors tips to be adjusted at different angles and can be mounted to the scissors handles; and at least two pushing springs that move by drawing the drawing apparatus and allow the sharp inner edges to be fixed at different angles by enabling the scissors tips to stay in the recesses on the threaded body structure, and which is used for cutting the vessels during cardiovascular surgeries.
- a wide-angle laparoscopic needle holder also disclosed is a wide-angle laparoscopic needle holder which consists of an arm, a moveable arm, a needle holding surface, a stationary arm, a part that transfers the movement from the mechanism to the handle and a motion slot, and which is characterized by an extended motion slot in order to make the thread gripping angle at least 160°.
- angled needle holders, forceps and scissors are available and widely used. Some of these structures have a body or arm form inclined at a fixed angle and do not have a moveable articulating structure which can form many angles. In this case, the surgeon has to work with the fixed angle of said instruments.
- the object of the invention is to allow the surgical instruments that provide gripping, grasping, clamping and cutting functions between two arms thereof in every dimension and every way owing to their movable articulations to form the angle desired by the surgeons, thereby providing a fast, safe and efficient application even in narrow and/or deep surgical areas by maintaining the angle adopted.

- the surgical instrument of the invention having an ability to form an angle comprises two instrument arms (1 ) having numerous functions such as gripping, grasping, clamping and cutting; an instrument tip (2) which is located at the end of each instrument arm (1 ) and forms a portion at which the surgical instrument contacts with the tissue and/or the surgical material; an instrument gripping section (3) forming a portion by means of which a surgeon can grip the surgical instrument; an instrument arm coupling section (4) for coupling and opening-closing the instrument arms (1 ); and an instrument articulation (5) which enables the instrument body to form the desired angle such that the instrument body is inclined in two planes in a forward or rearward direction by bending in accordance with the surgeon's movement, and to be fixed at the angle of inclination that it adopts by maintaining the position and angle against the tissue resistance encountered during the operation until the surgeon changes its bending position and angle, or to turn back to its upright position which is the initial angle in accordance with the surgeon's movement.
- the instrument articulation (5) of the inventive surgical instrument allows the surgical instrument to be inclined/bent in both coordinates and at an angle of at least 0°-120°.
- the surgical instruments having the ability to form an angle and comprising said instrument articulation (5) consist of any surgical tools of any dimension and scale providing gripping, grasping, clamping and cutting functions between two arms thereof, such as needle holders, forceps, clamps and scissors, etc.
- the instrument articulation (5) is located on the surgical instrument body or the instrument arms (1 ) such that it allows the surgical instrument body to be bent in at least two coordinates forming an angle.
- a surgical instrument having an ability to form an angle is applied which comprises an instrument articulation (5) on each instrument arm (1 ) thereof.
- the instrument articulation (5) of the surgical instrument is made of the same material as the surgical instrument or of different materials suitable for use in the surgical field.
- the surgical instrument may have an instrument articulation (5) of any design which enables the instrument body to form the desired angle such that the instrument body is inclined in two planes in a forward or rearward direction by bending in accordance with the surgeon's movement, and to be fixed at the angle of inclination that it adopts by maintaining the position and angle against the tissue resistance encountered during the operation until the surgeon changes its bending position and angle, or to turn back to its upright position which is the initial angle in accordance with the surgeon's movement.
- the instrument articulation (5) may have various designs which enables the surgical instrument to be bent forming an angle, such as mutually positioned driven gears or mutually positioned male and female parts or mutually positioned tab and tab housing, etc.
- the surgical instrument forming an angle by means of the instrument articulation (5) allows the surgeon to form the desirable angle and may maintain that angle during the surgical operation. Thereafter, the instrument articulation (5) can be inclined again by the surgeon's intervention such that it forms a different angle, or can be brought to its regular-straight position.
- the instrument articulation (5) shows resistance against the tissue resistance encountered during a suturing process and maintains the angle, while the surgeon performs the suturing process with a needle holder having the ability to form an angle by means of the instrument articulation (5) thereof.
- the angle should be maintained while gripping the tissue.
- the angle adopted by the clamp is maintained by the instrument articulation (5) during the process when the surgeon brings the clamp body to the desirable angle after the insertion of the clamp.
- the instrument tip (2), instrument arms (1 ) and instrument gripping section (3) of the inventive instrument are positioned in a flat and vertical manner to the ground plane at the initial position.
- the angle of inclination for the instrument is 0° at this initial position.
- the surgical instrument can move in two planes in a forward and rearward direction from the vertical position by means of the instrument articulation (5).
- a surgical instrument has been applied which has an instrument articulation (5) that allows it to be fixed at the desired angle with a reciprocating motion in a range of at least 0°-120° in total, with forward motion in a range of at least 0°-60° and rearward motion in a range of at least 0°-60°.
- the instrument articulation (5) remains stationary-stable at the angle adopted and thus, enables the instrument arms (1 ) and the surgical instrument to be fixed in their inclined positions.
- the surgical instrument provided with the desired angle can be moved by the operator by means of the instrument arm coupling section (3) such that the instrument tips (2) are opened and closed as in the standard instruments.
- the instrument articulation (5) remains stationary in its adopted position and angle and thereby maintains its angle of inclination in the surgical instrument against the resistance to be exhibited by the tissue and/or surgical material to which the process will be applied during the opening-closing operation of the instrument arms (1 ) as in the standard instruments.
- the surgical instruments may be used in a fast, safe and efficient manner even in very narrow and constricted surgical areas by means of the instrument articulation (5) in the inventive surgical instruments.
