Description

Easy-to-mount Modular Rack Cabinet
The invention is an easy-to-mount modular rack cabinet of which all the main elements are made of aluminium, are not fixed by welding together with one another, and can be easily adapted for use by its locking system, profile shape and pre-assembly features.
Technical Area to which the Invention is Connected and the Present Situation
A server is a generic name given to hardware or software that shares / distributes a program or information on any different networks to different users / systems. We can say that the hardware of the servers, are built to operate trouble-free, reliable, and serve multi-user computer systems.
The need for servers arises at times when we do our work through computer systems and store information on these systems. Today the use of computer systems is an indisputable requirement. Many businesses keep their information at a central point and distribute information to their branches / customers from this centre. At the centre, the server is the computer system that keeps information and must be in continuous operation.
Although the servers, that are used frequently today, are similar to our desktop systems, there are some points at which they are different or specialized. These different or specialized points are performance, scalability, reliability and continuity. Since servers are not used for a single area, it is possible to find servers with different hardware and features for different purposes.
A primary server is the RackMounted Server: Many of today's servers are in this form. The main purpose of these servers is that they take a small space, they can be placed on special computer shelves and can be customized according to the purpose of use. Such servers are symbolized with expressions such as 1U, 2U, 4U, 5U.1U means unit, i.e. a shelf height, i.e. 1.75 inches high.
Nowadays, due to lack of space, many organizations use rack cabinets in order to keep their server and rack server products save. Server cabinets are called rack-type server cabinets, cabinets, rack cabinets and so on.
CABINET, IT and Telecommunication Cabinets, Rack Cabinets: These are housings made of metal, in the size of 19 '' - 21 '' U or ETSI (European Telecommunication Standardization Committee) that keep structural cabling components, active and passive telecommunication components, devices, their components and server equipment in server and data centre applications. They separate them from external environment in terms of physical security, and provides them with appropriate installation areas, accessories, and appropriate work environment (ventilation requirement, energy requirement infrastructure, cable regulation infrastructure, etc.) as specified in the standards.
Cabinets produced with conventional methods, are mostly produced from metal raw materials (cold rolledsheet steel) all over the world. Among these product models, there are usually semi-modular or welded non-modular product models.
There are products of various sizes (width and depth) and various heights, ranging from 40 cm to 220 cm. In general they can be called bulky products.
The products are not expensive but heavy and they take a lot of space. These cause major disadvantages in terms of logistics cost. If a non-modular product shipment is taken as a basis, only 60 products from the average mixed product group can be shipped within 1 truck. Depending on shipping locations and prices of selected product types, the logistics cost may vary from 20 to 50% of the total value of the products, desired to be transported. This is the situation all over the world that faces all producers of these products.
In order to avoid this mentioned disadvantage, some producers pack these products by demounting them (FlatPack) (SKD).So they are able to load more goods into the truck or container. This is not a valid solution for non-modular, welded products. Furthermore; due to little modularity features of the majority of the semi-modular cabinet sproduced by the manufacturers, the desired level of shipping cost can not be achieved.
Even when the products can be demounted at the desired rate and thus the logistics cost can be reduced to the lowest rate, a basic problem is faced; such as difficulty in mounting the products in its space to be used. Since labour costs are high in locations such as western Europe, North America, savings from logistic costs are lost due to high installation costs. In fact, in some export regions the labour costs are so high that they exceed the logistical cost savings. Also, it takes approximately 45-60 min to mount the modularized products in the space to be used. In order to carry out this operation, various installation tools and a skilled assembly staff is required.
No matter if the products are non-modular, welded or demountable (flatpack) models, the average weight of the product is about 130 kg. Moving a non-modular product to its space to be used, is a major problem. In the case of flat pack models, a considerable reduction in the carrying capacity of the product is required. Since non-modular products are welded with profile joints, the carrying capacities of them are up to 40% higher than those of the semi-modular products. In this case, due to semi-modular products, the products of manufacturers attain modularity, so that they have to waive the carrying capacity.
Both types of products, either the above-mentioned welded one or the demounted one, are manufactured from sheet metal, cold rolled sheet steel material. Considering the content, cost and sensitivity of the equipment that are required to be stored in these products, corrosion resistance is the most desired and necessary feature. In order to meet this requirement, companies put their products through various dyeing processes during the manufacturing stage. Nowadays, even though producers use the most advanced paint applications and chemicals, they can give anti-corrosion warranty for a maximum of 5 years. This painting process causes a serious increase in the production costs of the companies. Particularly in the case of welded products, the processing and labour costs increase due to the cleaning and smoothing of the welded surfaces.
In cases, when it is preferred to make the products with a material such as stainless steel, the raw material cost of the product increases about 3 times and the product weight problem can not be solved as well.
If any part of the welded non-modular model is damaged during the use or transportation phase, the entire product might have to be replaced. No matter who meets the cost, this is a costly situation for both the user and the manufacturer. In semi-modular products, if there is a damage in the welded main module, only that entire module needs to be changed. Damage to certain parts of the product can only be compensated by the replacement of the damaged part. Even in this case, there is a need for skilled assembly staff to carry out this process. This is also an extra cost.
Definition of the Invention
The invention is an easy-to-mount modular rack cabinet in which all key elements are made of aluminium, none of its elements are fixed to one another by welding, and it can be easily adapted for use with its key system, profile shape and pre-assembly features.
Purpose and Benefits of the Invention
The invention has been conceived with the intention to eliminate the disadvantages of the currently used products and to provide a product which can be quickly mounted, which is light in weight compared to existing products, which creates a logistical cost advantage without compromising the weight carrying capacity and has maximum corrosion resistance.
The invention has advantages over the currently used products; due to the fact that all of the main components of the invention are made of aluminium, it is 2.5 times lighter than the currently used products.
Due to the lightness of the material from which the invention is manufactured, the transport of the products to itsplace is facilitated considerably. Asall the main components of the invention are made entirely of aluminium, they have endless corrosion resistance.
None of the elements of the invention are fixed to each other by welding, whereby the invention is fully modular.
Due to the fact that the invention is fully modular, in case of damage to any of the elements of the invention during transport or use, the problem can be solved by replacing only the damaged part.
Thanks to the profile shape and the pre-assembly, the locking system, which allows the components of the invention to be mounted to each other easily, can be mounted in a short time of 1 minute after the user removes the product from its protective packaging.
Due to the mountability of the invention, the cost of the assembly process has been eliminated.
Thanks to the material, key system, profile shape and pre-assembly of the elements of the invention, the carrying capacity of the product can be kept at a maximum without waiving the modular properties of the product.
