Description

TITLE
FIRE EXTINGUISHING APPARATUS
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to the field of fire extinguishing. More particularly, the invention relates to an apparatus for automatically extinguishing fire.
BACKGROUND
Fire extinguishing systems may include a tank containing a fire extinguishing substance, plus a manual tap for releasing the substance.
However, the tank includes thick walls, and is forbidden from being located within the fire.
This is the reason that independent tanks do not include automatic mechanisms for releasing the extinguishing substance.
Automatic systems are found with water systems. However, they too cannot be dedicated to extinguish focused regions.

Fig. 1 depicts a fire extinguishing apparatus for extinguishing fire, according to one embodiment of the invention, at the non-extinguishing state.
A fire extinguishing apparatus 10, while not being heated, e.g., at 45 deg C, does not extinguish fire 18.
Fig. 2 depicts the internal elements of the fire extinguishing apparatus, at the non-extinguishing state of Fig. 1.
Fire extinguishing apparatus 10 includes a capsule constituting an envelope 46 containing a spreading extinguishing substance 22, preferably gas, such as carbon dioxide or Freon confined and compressed within the envelope 46 of the fire extinguishing apparatus.
Fig. 3 depicts the fire extinguishing apparatus of Fig. 1, at the extinguishing state.
Fire extinguishing apparatus 10, upon being heated, e.g., at 60 deg C, extinguishes fire 18 by releasing extinguishing substance 22 thereon.
Fig. 4 depicts the internal elements of the fire extinguishing apparatus, at the extinguishing state of Fig. 3.
Fire extinguishing apparatus 10 further contains a puncturing mechanism 50, for cutting envelope 46, once fire extinguishing apparatus 10 is heated, for allowing releasing extinguishing substance 22 from envelope 46.
According to one embodiment, puncturing mechanism 50 includes a heat expanding gas 52, such as air or Freon! expanding characteristics of envelope 46; and a rigid cable 30, fixed to one end 34 of envelope 46, for pulling a knife 32, or any other piercing object, for rotating it about a hinge 28, due to the expansion of envelope 46, shown by an expandable region 26, in relation to cable 30, for making a cut 40 in envelope 46.
Fig. 5 depicts an example of another puncturing mechanism.
According to another embodiment, puncturing mechanism 50 may include only durability of envelope 46 to low temperature. For example, a region 44 of envelope 46 may puncture by melting above 60 deg C.
As noted, the same Freon is suitable for being the expanding gas 52, and as well for being the fire extinguishing gas 22. Thus, envelope 46 containing Freon, expands at about 60 deg C, sufficiently for tearing envelope 46, and extinguishes the fire.
Envelope 46 may be shaped, such that regions 44 are more sensitive to high temperature or to gas expansion, than the other regions, such as due to being thinner, or due to being disposed at edges of envelope, such as depicted in Fig. 5. Fig. 6 depicts the internal elements of the fire extinguishing apparatus of Fig. 1 according to another embodiment, at the non-extinguishing state of Fig. 1.
According to another embodiment, fire extinguishing apparatus 10 includes a can 70 containing extinguishing gas 22. Can 70 is closed by a valve 72, being operable by pressing thereon. Fire extinguishing apparatus 10 further includes a compartment 68, for pressing valve 72.
Fig. 7 depicts the elements of the fire extinguishing apparatus of Fig. 6, at the extinguishing state of Fig. 3.
Compartment 68 contains expandable gas 52, for expanding at a high temperature 14, for pressing valve 72, for releasing extinguishing substance 22.
Fig. 8 depicts the usage of the fire extinguishing apparatus of Fig. 1.
A residence may contain a plurality of fire extinguishing apparatuses 10, for disposing each at dangerous areas, such as within electrical socket compartments 60.
Fig. 9 depicts the efficiency of the fire extinguishing apparatus of Fig. 1.
Since fire extinguishing apparatus 10 is disposed near the source of the fire, and since the internal space of the electrical socket compartment 60 constitutes a closed cell, a small quantity of extinguishing substance 22 is sufficient. Further, extinguishing apparatus 10 is triggered immediately once inserting plug 56 (as shown in the figure) into the socket, i.e., upon the heating which is prior to presence of fire.
Thus, in contrast to any fire extinguisher, which includes thick walls, and which is forbidden to fall into the fire, the invention is directed to a fire extinguishing apparatus (10), including a capsule including:
- an envelope (46), for confining a spreading fire- extinguishing substance (22),
wherein the envelope (46) is puncturable (44) upon heating (14) thereof for releasing the entire of said spreading extinguishing substance (22) promptly, and
wherein the quantity of the fire-extinguishing substance is sufficiently small for not damaging therearound by the entire releasing, even in case of burning of the location.
The puncturability (44) of the envelope (46) may constitute non- durability to the heating (14).
The envelope (46) may further confine an expandable gas (52), for expanding upon the heating (14), and
the puncturability (44) of the envelope (46) may constitute non- durability to expansion induced by expansion of the expandable gas (52). The spreading extinguishing substance (22) may constitute an expandable gas (52), for expanding upon the heating (14), and
the puncturability (44) of the envelope (46) may constitute non- durability to expansion induced by expansion of the expandable gas (52).
The spreading extinguishing substance (22), being also the expandable gas (52) may constitute Freon, such that the Freon punctures the envelope (46) upon being heated, and upon being released from the envelope (46) extinguishes the fire, which has induced the heating (14).
The envelope (46) may further confine an expandable gas (52), for expanding upon the heating (14), and
the puncturability of the envelope (46) may constitute a piercing object (32), such as a knife, for piercing the envelope (46) upon the expansion of the expandable gas (52). The envelope (46) may further confine an expandable gas (52), for expanding upon the heating (14), and
the puncturability of the envelope (46) may constitute a valve (72), for being opened upon the expansion of the expandable gas (52).
The small sufficiency of the quantity of the fire- extinguishing substance 10 preferably is a function of the location. For example, fire-extinguishing substance 10 may be placed within closed cells, thus explosion thereof, for which it is designed, is not dangerous.
Thus, the fire extinguishing apparatus (10) may be suited for placing thereof within an electrical device (60). In this view, the capsule may be shaped and designed especially for placing at a certain cell having the electrical device, such as within an electrical socket.
