ORGANIC ANIMAL FEED SUPPLEMENT
Field of the invention The invention generally relates to the field of animal feed science and technology; specifically, the invention relates to an organic animal feed supplement comprising various minerals, amino acid, chito-oligosaccharide, and natural extract with therapeutic and immunity- boosting functions to improve health, quality and yield of animals and livestock farming and production industries.
Background of the invention
The global market demands for the consumption of animal meat or animal-based products is rising every day and is largely due to rising world population. However, popular livestock animals, such as pigs/swines, cows/cattle, goats, chicken/poultry, and aquatic/aquaculture animals such as shrimps, fish and crabs are still encountering many quality and production issues such as low quality of adult males- sperms, reproductive health of breeders, growth rates of the animals, their feeding efficiency, and production quality and yields of meat products to supply the food industry. As for the aquatic animal industry, especially the shrimp farming industry which is an economically important industry for Thailand and which brings in more than 10,000 million baht per year, is also troubled by various factors such as rising production costs due to rising in food and energy costs, increasing food safety regulation due to the presence of antibiotic residues. Minerals are important compositions of the shells and soft tissue, and which are co-factors or co-activators inside the gastric enzyme in shrimps and when they are not fed with enough minerals, the symptoms, such as reduced food intake, stunted growth, and dysfunctional immunity. Under prolonged mineral deprivation, severe damage or death may occur; thus, there has been the need to improve and develop supplements for animal feed so in order to increase the efficiency of livestock production and the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention has been invented to significantly improve their quality and yield.
The organic animal feed supplement according to this invention, which comprises a set of minerals, amino acid, and chito-oligosaccharide, can be used for supplementing regular foods or feeds for land animals, poultry, and aquaculture animals to improve quality and yield of the products as well as to improve the animals' overall health and immunity through additional natural extract or set of natural extracts such as a cordycepin from Cordyceps militaris and a beta-glucan from Schizophyllum commune (i.e. Split Gill fungus) wherein both can enhance immunity in host, and once the natural extract is mixed with other compositions of the animal feed supplement according to this invention, the supplement will act to immune system enhancer to aid healthy development of animal and lead to improved production quality and yield of final meat products to supply the global food industries and their consumers.

In its most basic embodiment, the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention comprises a set of minerals comprising calcium, magnesium, and selenium, amino acid, and chito-oligosaccharide which can be made into either a liquid or a dry powdered form.
In a more mineral nourished embodiment of the invention, potassium, iron, zinc, manganese, copper, cobalt, and chromium of specified ranges are further mixed into the supplement. Further, an immunity or health-enhancing extract such as a cordycepin from Cordyceps militaris or a beta-glucan from Split Gill fungus can be added into any of the two embodiments of the feed supplement in order to improve immune system of and other biologically processes inside the animal bodies, which in turns, leading to improved quality and yield of the final meat products to supply the food industries. Detailed description of the invention
An organic animal feed supplement according to this invention can be made into both liquid and powdered forms wherein the supplement can be used independently or as part of animal feeds to improve both the quality and yield of livestock production. One liquid embodiment of the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention generally comprising 0.3% to 8% by weight of calcium, 0.3% to 8% by weight of magnesium, 0.2% to 7% by weight of selenium, 10% to 35% by weight of amino acid, 0.6% to 15% by weight of chito- oligosaccharide, and 50% to 85% by weight of solvent, preferably water. In a second liquid embodiment of the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention which is a more mineral-enriched embodiment, the invention comprises 0.3% to 8% by weight of calcium, 0.3% to 8% by weight of magnesium, 0.2% to 7% by weight of selenium, 10% to 35% by weight of amino acid, 0.6% to 15% by weight of chito oligosaccharide, and 50% to 85% by weight of solvent, preferably water, 0.4% to 6% by weight of potassium, 0.8% to 13% by weight of iron, 0.1 % to 5% by weight of zinc, 0.2% to 8% by weight of manganese, 0.1% to 6% by weight of copper, 0.04% to 2% by weight of chromium, and 0.001% to 2% by weight of cobalt. Both the first and second embodiments as described above can further include an immunity or health enhancing natural extract or a set of extracts of approximately l% to 10% by weight of a natural extract which can be chosen from at least one or a set of the following: a cordycepin from Cordyceps militaris, a beta-glucan from Split Gill fungus, an amino acid from seaweed, a fructo-oligosaccharide from chicory, an allicin from garlic, a catechin from tea, a curcumin from turmeric, a glycosphingolipid from Beijing grass, an andrographolide from Andrographis paniculata, a beta-d-glucan polysaccharide from lingzhi mushroom, a pipeline from pepper, an indole-3- carbinol from a cruciferous vegetable, a xanthone from mangosteen shell, and a proanthocyanidin from grape seed. In order to produce a dry, powdered form of the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention, it is required that each of the above embodiments of the animal feed supplement is mixed with 50% to 90% by weight of an organic material such as clay, bean meal, and husk, and subsequently, drying said mixture in a drying oven or by other means and crushing or grinding said supplement into a powered form. One method of producing the above organic animal feed supplement as described above may comprise the following steps:
Step 1 : preparing the chito-oligosaccharide solution;
Step 2: combining a set of mineral mixture comprising calcium, magnesium, and selenium with the chito-oligosaccharide solution from step 1 ;
Step 3: reacting the combined solution from step 2 with the amino acid; and Step 4: placing the liquid organic animal feed supplement into a container.
Further, the mineral mixture in step 2 may further comprise an additional set of minerals using the percentage range as described above wherein the minerals are as follows: potassium, iron, zinc, manganese, copper, chromium, and cobalt. A natural extract of the describe percentage chosen from at least one or a combination of the above extracts into the organic animal feed in or after step 3. In order to convert the organic animal feed supplement into a powdered form, an organic material of the above percentage range is mixed with the organic animal feed after step 3 and, subsequently, drying said mixture to produce the organic animal feed supplement in a powdered form.
Examples of the effectiveness of the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention in promoting livestock growth and production in various industries can be provided as follows:
1. Improved productivity in the pork industry: When the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention at 2 kg/ton of feed is given to sows (treatment group), it is found that the mean weight of the newborn piglets is 1 95 kg/pig, the mean number of weaned pigs is 1 1.14 pigs/litter, the mean weight of the weaned pigs is 8.04 kg/pig, and the mean weaning time is 4.23 days. On the other hand, the sows that are not given the organic animal feed supplement (control group) are significantly different (P<0.05) in all criteria (mean weight of newborn pigs of 1.74 kgpig; mean number of weaned pigs of 9.98 pigs/litter; mean weight of weaned pigs of 7.15 kg/pig; and mean weaning period of 5.73 days). When the organic animal feed supplement is given to boars, said supplement did not have any effects on the color, acidity, amount of semen, and concentration, number and mobility of individual sperms. In one formulation of the feed supplement with a cordycepin extract, it is found that the mean percentage of live sperms in control group (88.35%) is significantly lower than the treatment group (91.08). It is possible, that the supplement acts as an anti oxidant to help to increase livelihood of sperms due to the presence of amino group (-
NH2) and a hydroxyl group ( OH) that are capable of stopping lipid peroxidation and, thus, preventing oxidants from damaging the sperms via certain mechanisms, such as by activating mitochondria to secret cytochrome c— causing cytoplasm and sperm cell wall to mutate and collapse.
Further, when the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention is given to a group of piglets of 4-9 weeks old in the treatment group, the mean weight is increased to
13.76 kg/piglet, the mean growth rate is 0.43 kg/day, the feed-to-weight exchange rate of 1.18, and percentage losses of 1 63% which are significantly better (P<0.05) than the control group with the mean weight of 1 1.56 kg/piglet, growth rate of 0.35 kg/day, feed-to-weight exchange rate of 1.80, and percentage losses of 8.33%.
When the organic animal feed supplement at 3 kg/ton of feed is given to adult pigs, higher productivity is found, such as increased mean weight of 70.39 kg/pig, growth rate of 0.78 kg/day, feed-to-weight exchange rate of 2.29, and percentage losses of 1.67%, which are significantly better (P<0.05) than the control group of mean weight of 65.08 kg/pig, growth rate of 0.69 kg/day, feed-to-weight exchange rate of 2.57, and percentage losses of 8 36%. It is also found that when an additional natural extract with therapeutic or immunity-boosting effect, such as cordycepin, is added into the mixture of animal feed supplement at 3 kg/ton, the quality of pork meat is significantly improved including having the spine fat thickness of 1.70 cm, depth of meat of 6.87 cm, surface diameter of meat of 42.66 cm2, red meat percentage of 55.78%, and LSQ rate of 0.26 which are significantly better (P<0.05) than control meat group with mean spine fat thickness of 2.42 cm, depth of meat of 7.41 cm, surface diameter of meat of 41.02 cm2, red meat percentage of 54.32% and LSQ rate of 0.29 Therefore, the results above have strongly suggested that the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention is effective in supporting growth of animals and in improving quality and yield of livestock meat production.
2. Improved productivity in the egg-laying chicken industry:
When the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention has been mixed with chicken feed for a group of 40-week old egg-laying hens, it is found that the feed supplement of 1 kg/ton has resulted in the mean damage to the egg of 1 72%, mean egg productivity of 85.05%, mean egg volume of 53.62 g/hen/day, and feed amount of 1.79 kg/hen/dozen of eggs; whereas in the control group, there is a higher mean of damage to the egg of 4.65%, lower mean egg productivity of 81.87%, lower mean egg volume of 44.71 g/hen/day, and higher mean feed amount of 2.20 kg/hen/dozen of eggs (statistically significant,
P<0.05). The results above have strongly indicated that the supplement can significantly improve productivity of the chicken industry wherein the presence of multi-minerals in the supplement can act as a co-factor of the enzyme dismutase which can remove oxidants by converting superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide, which sequentially will be removed by catalase and glutathione to prevent fatty acid oxidation that causes damage of the cells The overall mechanism may support the development and health of the chicken eggs and to improve the quality of egg production.
3. Improved productivity in the shrimp industry:
When the organic animal feed supplement according to this invention has been mixed with a feed for a group of white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) at 3 kg/ton of feed, the resulting feed usage rate is 1.402, mean growth rate is 0.159 g/shrimp/day, mean shrimp weight is 15.42 g/shrimp, survival rate is 93 51%, mean weight of captured shrimps is 9,410 kg/well with mean quantity of 65 shrimps/kg. On the other hand, for the control group, the feed usage rate is 1.854, mean growth rate is 0.129 g/shrimp/day, mean shrimp weight is 12.616 g shrimp, survival rate is 8694%, mean weight of captured shrimps is 7,206 kg/well with mean quantity of 80 shrimps/kg. Therefore, shrimps in the treatment group are significantly bigger and healthier than the control group. It can be implied that, unlike inorganic feed supplement, the multi-mineral organic feed according to this invention is a neutral base substance that can be easily absorbed through the intestines and does not break inside the stomach which, in turns, increases absorption capacity of these minerals into the body and in which supports growth, immunity and health of the shrimps.
Although this invention has been disclosed in the context of certain embodiments and examples, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the present invention extends beyond the specifically disclosed embodiments to other alternative embodiments and/or uses of the invention and obvious modifications and equivalents thereof.
