Without wishing to be bound by theory, oxygen stably and covalently bond with carbon on the atomic level as the electron density distribution and equalization are limited by the structural regularity of carbon matrix.

Abstract

L'invention concerne une particule de charbon actif ayant une surface comprenant une partie hydrophobe et une partie hydrophile, la partie hydrophile contenant au moins une nanoparticule de carbone s'étendant à l'opposé de la surface de la particule de charbon actif. Un procédé de préparation d'une composition de carbone comprend la mise en contact d'une composition de billes de carbone activée avec des nanoparticules de graphène à l'aide d'une électrode électriquement conductrice contenant du graphène, une source d'alimentation de tension continue CC ayant une tension appliquée supérieure à environ 1,28 VDC, un électrolyte aprotique ayant une résistance électrique DC inférieure à environ 18 Ohm/cm. L'invention concerne également une composition comprenant des particules de charbon actif ayant une fraction chargée électriquement fixée à la surface des particules de carbone actif, dans laquelle les particules de carbone actif sont dépourvues d'une fraction chargée électriquement.
