Description

COMPREHENSIVE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF HEALTHCARE SERVICES
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to systems and methods for management of healthcare services. More specifically, it relates to a computer assisted method and system for effective management of a number of users, healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners, healthcare related product providers and healthcare associated service providers.
BACKGROUND
It is vital to potential patients to gain as much information as possible about a particular physician and/or treatment facility, e.g., a hospital, before selecting that particular physician as a primary care doctor or specialist or that particular place of treatment. The Internet has become a significant source of information to consumers in general. Indeed, consumers rely heavily on the Internet for information and data. However, one well- recognized problem with the Internet is that the patient often cannot assess the veracity of the information which is revealed through an Internet search query using a common search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, etc. Further, with regard to healthcare provider information in particular, there are few, if any resources available for patients to discover any information, much less verified information, about physicians or hospitals. Typically, any information about physicians or hospitals on the Internet is provided by the physicians or hospitals themselves and, in some cases, insurance companies. Such information may not be updated on a regular basis or may contain inaccurate or incomplete information. Further, even if such information is available, it is usually not organized in a manner that would allow a patient to compare physicians or hospitals, search for a particular physician or hospital by geographic area or other criteria, or verify a physician's or hospital's certifications and licensures. Various online health care management systems are known. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 5,301,105 describes a health care management system that integrates the "interconnection and interaction of the patient, health care provider, bank or other financial institution, utilization reviewer/case manager and employer so as to include within a single system each of the essential elements to provide patients with complete and comprehensive health care and payment therefor". Another known system is described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,890,129 which describes a system for exchanging health care insurance information between an insurer and multiple health care providers. Other known systems include U.S. Pat. No. 5,867,821 for a method and apparatus for electronically accessing and distributing personal health care information and services in hospitals and homes. This disclosed system is essentially a records management system. U.S. Pat. No. 5,764,923 discloses a medical network management system and process in which health plan beneficiaries access a team of health care professionals over the telephone to help assess their health needs and select appropriate care. However these systems do not provide a common platform for collecting information about healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and a healthcare associated services providers. The existing systems neither provide information about the reliability of the healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare associated services providers. In some cases, the reviews or comments about the healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare associated services providers are from random users over the Internet and cannot be trusted.
Hence there exists a need for a system for effective management of users, healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare associated services providers. The needed system would provide trusted reviews about the healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare associated services providers. The needed system would automatically collect information from online resources including social media platforms for recommending healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare associated services providers to the users. Further the needed system would be able to securely store and communicate with the healthcare providers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare associated services providers for effective management of healthcare information.
