Abstract

An accessory for a mobile telephone or device and related biometric unlocking accessory and equipment, as well a smart card providing biometric security. In one aspect, near field communication is used to provide power and read a user electrocardiograph, ECG, signal from sensors to authenticate a user. In another aspect, enrolment is described. An authentication device is coupled (preferably wirelessly) to a host device to receive power (preferably wirelessly) from the host device. At least one sensor is presented to a skin surface from which an ECG measurement can be taken and stored. Other aspects provide a biometric authentication and/or identification device for a mobile telephone or other device or apparatus. The device includes a biometric sensor, a wireless transmitter and a controller. The controller is adapted to receive a signal from a user via the biometric sensor, identify (or authenticate) the user from the signal, generate a signal in response thereto and send the signal wirelessly through the transmitter to the mobile telephone or other device or apparatus to at least partially unlock a function.
