Definitions
- THIS invention relates to a discharge spout for a container and a container incorporating such a discharge spout. More specifically, the invention relates to a discharge spout for a pouch-like container having first and second mixable substances contained therein separately from one another until time of use.
- the infant formula and volume of water come into contact and, through mixing, jointly form a flowable substance dispensable from the pouch-like nursing container via a teat for feeding an infant.
- the first is that there is no inclusion of an agitation means to assist in the mixing of the formula and water.
- mixing the formula and water together properly may be difficult and tedious.
- the second shortcoming is that flow into the teat is typically through an aperture on the teat assembly which lies on a single plane. As such, as the pouch-like container becomes emptied, the container will tend to fold over itself across such aperture, thereby pinching off flow to the teat.
- a discharge spout assembly for a container including: a discharge spout member having: a first discharging end for discharging a flowable substance from the container; a second mounting end; and a first passageway defined by the discharge spout member and extending through the first and second ends thereof thereby enabling the flowable substance to pass operatively through the discharge spout member; a spout mounting member for mounting the discharge spout member to the container, the spout mounting member having: a primary mounting end correspondingly engageable with the second mounting end of the discharge spout member thereby to mount the discharge spout member to the spout mounting member; a secondary connecting end being mountable to the container; a second passageway defined by the spout mounting member and extending through the primary and secondary ends thereof thereby enabling the flowable substance to pass operatively through the spout mounting member, wherein the first and second passageways are capable of being brought into fluid communication with one another jointly

- the male and female mounting ends are correspondingly tapered such that the male mounting end is capable of operatively being pressed into the female mounting end such that the discharge spout member and the spout mounting member are secured to one another by a friction taper lock fit.
- the pressed together male and female mounting ends may be operatively sonic welded together.
- the discharge spout member and the spout mounting member are pressed into securement by a press mechanism acting on the first collar and second collars of the discharge spout member and the spout mounting member respectively.
- the supporting arms each define an aperture there through for operatively promoting flow of the flowable substance into the discharge spout assembly and for operatively enabling the supporting arms to act as agitators to mix the flowable substance in the container.

- the first dispensing nozzle 102 is retracted from the pouch container-forming member 50, thereby enabling the first compartment 58 to be sealed off by pressing and fixing the discharge spout member 12 into the spout mounting member 30 as herein previously described and as depicted in figure 5. In this condition, the discharge spout assembly 10 is formed.
- the lid 24 is brought into engagement with the discharge spout assembly 10 thereby to cover the dispensing member 22.

- first and second substances 100, 104 are contained separately, until use, within the respective first and second compartments 58, 60 of a pouch-like container 60 as illustrated in figure 10, thereby to produce a consumable product 70, which product may be exposed to an irradiation treatment prior to being boxed and sent out for distribution.
- the frangible divider 56 may be broken by a pulling or squeezing action imparted on the pouch-like container 60 thereby to cause the powder 100 and the liquid 104 to come together and mix to form a consumable flowable substance dischargeable from the pouch-like container 60 through the dispensing member 22 as illustrated in figure 1 1 .
- the supporting arms 40A, 40B extending into the pouch-like container 60 act to support the first open end thereof in an open condition to continuously allow the consumable flowable substance to pass into the second passageway 36 of the spout mounting member 30 and towards the dispensing member 22.
- the pouch-like container 60 is supported across the supporting arms 40A, 40B over the curved peripheries 42 thereof, which acts to alleviate the pouch-like container 60 from folding on itself and pinching shut flow of the flowable substance.
- the supporting arms 40A, 40B and apertures 44 defined therein enable the supporting arms 40A, 40B to act as agitators to mix the flowable substance more effectively, during the shaking of the pouch-like container 60.
- the aperture 44 also provides the flowable substance with an alternative flow path into the second passageway 36 of the spout mounting member 30 towards the dispensing member 22.

- any part of or the whole of the pouch container-forming member 50 and/or pouch-like container 60 may be transparent or translucent to enable a user to view the level of the flowable substance therein;
- the pouch container-forming member 50 and/or pouch-like container 60 may include gussets spanning between the first and second ends thereof.
