Description

BOTTLE OPENER AND CLOSURE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a re-closure device for a metal cap on a bottle, comprising a base body and a re-closure arrangement arranged on the base body.
BACKGROUND
Many beverages are delivered in glass bottles with a closure in the form of a cap, e.g. lemonade and beer. A cost efficient type of caps is the one consisting of metal and which is clamped around the top of the bottle in connection with the filling of beverage. When such a cap is opened, the metal must be bent away somewhat, which implies that a re-closure of the bottle with the same cap does then not give a tight closure, implying that a carbonated beverage will become stale.
A lot of different closure solutions are known, in order to find a remedy for the problems mentioned above, which are based on a separate, own closure device, e.g. plastic caps, openers with a closure part, etc. However, such solutions have drawbacks from a user perspective, i.a. the need of an additional purchase and/or by being bulky, etc.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
An object of the invention is to solve the problems mentioned above, which is achieved with a re-closure device for a metal cap on a bottle, comprising a base body and a re- closure arrangement according to claim 1.
Thanks to the invention, a simple and cheap re-closure of a metal cap on a beverage bottle is possible in a sealing manner, which i.a. makes it possible that a carbonated beverage or a beverage with some other gas, may be re-closed and enjoyed at a later occasion with substantially preserved freshness.
According to additional aspects of the invention it applies that the design of the device according to the invention may be provided with certain preferred embodiments in order to add additional advantages, such as facilitating cost efficient production. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
The invention will be described more in detail below with reference to the enclosed drawings, of which:
Fig. 1 shows a view from above of a preferred embodiment of a device according to the invention;
Fig. 2 shows the same device as Fig. 1 from below;
Fig. 3 shows the same device seen from the side; and
Fig. 4 shows the device in a sectional view in a longitudinal cut.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The figures 1 to 4 show different views of a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention. In its preferred embodiment, the device 1 comprises both an opener 2 and a re-closure arrangement 3, respectively, which are arranged at each end of a base body 4.
The opener 2 is suitably designed in a manner known per se, namely by using a lip 20 of metal (or any other hard material), which protrudes by an adapted distance below the lower surface of the base body 4.
At the other end of the base body 4 a cylindrical/cone-shaped closure arrangement 3 is arranged. The closure arrangement 3 has a bottom portion 30 which is fixed to the base body 4. A cylindrical lower body part 31 extends from the bottom portion 30. This part may also be in the form of a frustrum of a cone. Fig. 2 shows that the radius r is constant from the bottom 30 up to a distance t above the bottom portion 30. It is realized that this first part 31 may be in the form of a corrugated cylinder, i.e., however, with an essentially constant inner radius r. An important part of the invention is that at least one sector part 32A of an upper wall portion 32 is provided with an essentially larger radius R than other adjacent parts 32B of this upper wall portion 32 at the same height from the bottom portion 30. In the embodiment shown, the device 1 is provided with four such sectors S, where the outer periphery of the wall 32 thus protrudes by a larger distance from a centre line C than the other parts of the wall portion 32.
Thanks to the design according to the invention, a cap may easily be re-closed on a bottle. This is performed by the cap with its outwardly bent part being again
attached/pressed down on top of the bottle neck. Thereafter, the device 1 according to the invention is used by bringing the re-closure arrangement 3 down over the cap and then fit in this arrangement 3 so that the outwardly bent cap part coincides with the outwardly bent portion 32 A with a larger radius R of the re-closure arrangement 3. The re-closure arrangement 3 is then pressed down so that it gets full contact with the cap. Thereafter, the re-closure arrangement 3 is rotated, wherein an adjacent wall portion 32B with a smaller radius r will press the outwardly bent portion of the cap and then the cap may be able to re-closure of the cap on the bottle in a sealing manner.
The material of the re-closure arrangement 3 is preferably steel. The base body may also be of metal, but suitably partly or entire made of plastics, e.g. with a rubber handle. Suitable sizes are that the base body/handle has a length of about 80 to 120 mm, preferably 95 to 100 mm, and that the re-closure arrangement 3 has a height of about 15 to 25 mm, preferably 17 to 18 mm, and an inner radius r of about 26 to 28 mm (wherein preferably a somewhat smaller radius r is used in the wall portion/s 31 closer to the bottom 30, i.e. a somewhat slightly gradual or constant increase by 1 to 2 mm from inmost to a maximal radius r is sometimes preferable) and a largest radius of about 30 to 35 mm, preferably 32 to 33 mm, respectively.
The invention is not limited to the above description but can be varied within the scope of the following claims. The person skilled in the art realizes i.a. that many different types of material may be used to obtain the desired functionality, but that metal in many cases is preferred, at least for the exposed parts 2, 3, then preferably a durable steel. Further, it is realized that the number of sectors S with outwardly bent wall portions 32B may be varied within wide frames.
