Abstract

A water-filled tensiometer designed to produce more accurate readings and reduced manual maintenance by means of; limiting water evaporation and dissolved air release from surface of the water inside the tensiometer achieved by the use of a floating barrier on said surface of the water and also by means of preventing the underground part of the tensiometer from heating up above the temperature of the surrounding soil. Said barrier can be in the form of a floating oil layer or a layer of floating granules or a solid float slidably fitting into the inner chamber of the tensiometer. The heat transfer prevention from the above ground to tensiometer's under ground part is accomplished by using a ring insert connecting the above ground part of the tensiometer with the underground part of the tensiometer, with said ring featuring very low heat conductivity or having the entire underground part of tensiometer made of low heat conductivity material(s).
