Description

DESCRIPTIPN
ROD JOINING
Technical Field The present invention relates to rods and casings used in drilling rigs.
The invention particularly relates to a new tread structure, by means of which the problems such as rod joining, thread nip, etc. that occur in the threaded port section of the casings and rods used for drilling operations, are eliminated.
Prior Art
Drilling rigs are used for mineral prospecting pr other different purposes. Rod is used as the drilling material that transfers the rotational motion and circulation fluid up to the drill during drilling operation. Moreover, casings of various diameters are used for purposes such as protecting the rod array during drilling operation, preventing collapses in the well, or preventing exchange of water between the well and the soil. Rods and casings at standard length and diameter manufactured in compliance with either DCDMA or metric system are produced from steel based, generally cold drawn pipes, with various wall thicknesses. Rods and casings are threaded pipes with one side male and one side female.
During the drilling operation, the male part of the rods and casings of various sizes join to, and advance from, the threaded part in the female part of the other rod and the casing. Problems are encountered during drilling operation when it is necessary to join the rods and casings to each other. Due to the port structure at the threaded part, problems such as thread nip, port jam, etc. occur when joining at a certain rotation speed or when accurate joining process is not performed. This, in turn, causes the rods and casings to suffer damages and become unserviceable or causes loss of time. Various coating and hardening operations are performed in order to eliminate such problem at the thread structure in the rod and casings. However, the coating and hardening operations on the threads prove to be insufficient. Setbacks and discontinuances are experienced due to the problems that occur in the rod and casing threads during the drilling operation. Prolonged drilling periods increases the cost of the drilling operation. The rod costs also increase as the threads on the rod suffer damages and become unserviceable. Objects of the Invention
Based on the prior art, the object of the invention is to develop a thread starting port formed in the female part in the male and female ports of the rod and casings where drilling operations are performed without any problems at the rod and casing threads, wherein the disadvantages in the available embodiments are eliminated.
Another object of the invention is to prevent occurrence of problems such as thread bite, deterioration of threads, squeezed threads that do not release, etc. during assembly of the female ports to the male ports of the rods and casings.
Another object of the invention is to form durable and resistant rod and casing threads capable of attachment/detachment without any problem.
Another object of the invention is to save on operating expenses due to high durability of the rods or casings.
Another object of the invention is to ensure smooth operation with the thread starting port where the thread formed in the thread start on the male and female port on the rod starts with a certain geometric shape. The object is to assemble the rods and casings without any thread bite and jamming when joining the threads by virtue of the thread starting port. In this manner, the thread section remains intact and the drilling operation proceeds smoothly. In order to achieve the aforementioned objects, occurrence of problems such as thread bite, thread jamming, etc. are prevented by virtue of the thread starting port formed in the threaded part of the male and female ports of the rods or casings.

The invention eliminates the problems that arise during assembly of the female port (2) and male port (4) sections on the rod or casing elements (1). Many problems are encountered due to defects that occur in the thread start (5) in the threaded part (3) available on the female port (2) and the male port (4). It is ensured that such problems are eliminated by forming a thread starting port (6) in the thread start (5) part. The female port (2) part of the rod or casing elements (1) that are available in various sizes on the drilling rig are assembled in the male port (4) part of other rod or casing element (1). During drilling operation, the threaded parts (3) of the rods and casings suffer damages while installing the rod or casing elements (1) to one another in order to execute the operations in a swift manner.
The threaded parts (3) on the rod or casing elements (1) become non-detachable as a result of probable thread bite or jamming. During detachment process, the threaded parts (3) suffer damage,, rendering the rod or casing element (1) to become unserviceable. It is not possible to repair the threaded part (3). In order to eliminate all of these problems, a thread starting port (6) is formed on the thread start (5) on the threaded parts (3).
Thread starting port (6) can be formed in various forms and shapes. As can be seen from the figures, thread starting port (6) has a structure capable of passing at a certain thickness. This process is independent of the thread profile and profile starting point. This process is applicable to the drill pipe threads and to the newly applicable thread standards available in the market. In this case, the problems encountered at the threaded part (3) during swift assembly and probable thread bite problems are eliminated.
The detailed view in Figure-4 and Figure-6 illustrates the problematic thread starting part (5) of the prior art. As illustrated in the detailed views in Figure-5 and Figure-7, the thread starting port (6) is formed in different forms and angles, such as straight port, left-angled straight port, left inclined port, right angled straight port, straight inclined port, right inclined port, etc.
As illustrated in the figures, the thread starting port (6) formed in the thread starting part (5) is formed in the machinery processing special forms in different shapes. Different thread parts (3) can be formed by changing the shape and form of the thread starting port (6).
Advantages provided are as follows:
> The problematic part is improved by virtue of the thread starting port (6) in the threaded part (3), thus enabling smooth execution of the operations.
Many problems encountered in the prior art, such as thread bite, jamming, installation problems, problems in detachment, etc. are eliminated by virtue of the thread starting port (6).
As damages to the threaded part (3) are prevented, the rod or casing elements (1) will have higher service life. In this manner, operating expenses are reduced.
> Attachment and detachment operations are performed smoothly without any problem by virtue of the thread starting port (6) formed on the threaded parts (3) on the male port (4) and female port (2).
> Smooth advancement of the threaded parts (3) is ensured during attachment of the rod or casing elements (1) to one another by virtue of the thread starting port (6) formed with a certain width. In this manner, labor costs and drilling time are reduced as the probable problems at the thread part (3) are eliminated.
