Abstract

Disclosed herein is a loop-forming guidewire system. According to embodiments of the invention, a loop-forming guidewire system may comprise a guidewire having at least one area of increased flexibility, a control tube external to the guidewire, and a control wire having two ends, the distal end connected to the distal end of a guidewire and the proximal end configured to be located external to the patient. Motion of the control wire in the proximal direction relative to the guidewire may bend a region of increased flexibility of a guidewire to form a circular or oval shaped loop which can then be securely lodged in a lumen of an animal through distal advancement of both the control wire and the guidewire.
