Abstract

The invention relates to a device for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy, said device comprising a heat accumulator (10) which contains a heat accumulator chamber (12) filled with a heat accumulator medium, a heating device (14) for heating the heat accumulator medium and a heat exchanger (18) for transferring thermal energy of the heat transfer medium to a working fluid flowing through a closed circuit (20). Said closed circuit runs from the heat exchanger (18) through a steam engine (22), a condenser (24) and a feed pump (26) back to the heat exchanger. In said device, the steam engine is a reciprocating steam engine (22).
