Abstract

The invention relates to an assembly (10), in particular an internal combustion engine or compressor, comprising a housing (12) in which a first piston (26) having a first end face (38) and at least one second piston (28) having a second end face (40) are arranged, wherein the first piston (26) and the second piston (28) can be moved toward each other and away from each other in an alternating manner with a limited stroke, wherein a working chamber (46) for a working medium is provided between the first end face (38) and the second end face (40), which working chamber alternately decreases and increases owing to the movements of the first and at least one second pistons (26, 28), wherein the first piston and at least one second piston (26, 28) are arranged in a piston cage (70) that is accommodated in the housing (12). At least one piston guide sleeve (86) arranged in the piston cage (70), which sleeve can be separated from the piston cage (70) and is mounted in the piston cage (70) in fixed position with respect to the latter, wherein a respective end section (92, 94), which adjoins the first end face (38) or second end face (40), of the first and at least one second piston (26, 28) is guided in a gas-tight manner against an inner wall (90) of the piston guide sleeve (86), such that the inner wall (90) of the piston guide sleeve (86) defines the working chamber (46) together with the first and second end faces (38, 40), wherein in each case only at least one seal (87, 89) that is arranged on the first piston (26) and second piston (28) bears in a sealing manner against the inner wall (90).
