Abstract

La présente invention concerne des technologies permettant de suivre l'emplacement et l'orientation d'un outil médical à l'intérieur d'un corps. Le procédé peut consister à positionner plusieurs diodes électroluminescentes (LED) dans la plage de longueurs d'ondes infrarouges (IR) près d'une extrémité de l'outil médical. Au moment de l'insertion de l'outil médical à l'intérieur du corps, les LED peuvent émettre de la lumière IR selon des motifs uniques, pouvant être détectées à travers les tissus corporels. Les motifs de lumière émis peuvent être détectés par l'intermédiaire d'un détecteur IR à l'extérieur du corps. Un ou plusieurs marqueurs IR peuvent être placés près du corps pour servir de points de référence et le détecteur IR pourra déterminer l'emplacement et l'orientation de l'outil médical à l'intérieur du corps sur la base des motifs de lumière détectés. L'emplacement et l'orientation de l'outil médical à l'intérieur du corps peuvent être affichés sur un écran.
