Abstract

The invention relates to a device for transporting stacks of flat items, in particular stacks of paper from a stack forming station (10) to a further processing station, which is arranged downstream, in a system of the paper-processing industry, said device comprises a conveyor device (30, 32) provided with a transfer zone (40) for transferring a stack (18), defining a transport path (32a, 32b) which is subsequent to the transfer area (40) and is designed to transfer the stack (18) in the transfer area (40) at an angle, preferably approximately at a right angle to the direction of the transport path (32a, 32b) and to guide at a predetermined conveying speed along the transport path (32a, 32b) in the transporting direction (C). The invention is characterised in that a stop (44) which can be moved in the direction of the transport path (32a, 32b) is provided and is designed to come into contact with a trailing lateral edge (18a) of a stack (18) in the transfer zone (40) and to temporarily remain in contact with said lateral edges (18a) of the stack (18) for the stabilization thereof, during the subsequent transportation of the stack (18), by means of the conveyor device (30, 32).
