Abstract

A ball valve (40) comprises a housing, a ball seat (42) arranged in the housing and a ball member (44) mounted within the housing and being rotatable relative to the ball seat (42) between open and closed positions. The ball seat (42) and ball member (44) define respective through bores each having a bore edge, wherein the bore edge of at least one of the valve seat (42) and ball member (44) defines a recessed cutting region for cutting a body (78) extending at least partially through the valve upon closure of the ball member (44).
