Because such systems establish a hierarchy of federated systems, media transmission between distant and remote sites may be achieved using techniques, such as alternate encoding algorithms, not reasonable for personal devices and grabs not even room-scale systems. Because such systems utilize local authentication and private or direct client-to-client or site-to-site communications to create a collaboration overlay on top of an existing, typically private, network, established tunneling techniques may be used to traverse such isolation. As a result, clients that are not authorized to access the private network may still access the collaboration functions that exist on the network.
