第2テーパ面には、前記軸との相対的な回転に伴って前記グリースを軸方向に移動させる複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝(ネジ突起のみの場合とネジ溝のみの場合の他、ネジ突起とネジ溝が混在する場合も含む)が設けられており、これら複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝は、いずれも前記グリースを密封対象流体側とは反対側に向かって移動させる配置となっていることを特徴とする。

第2テーパ面には、前記軸との相対的な回転に伴って前記グリースを軸方向に移動させる複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝(ネジ突起のみの場合とネジ溝のみの場合の他、ネジ突起とネジ溝が混在する場合も含む)が設けられており、これら複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝は、いずれも前記グリースを密封対象流体側とは反対側に向かって移動させる配置となっていることを特徴とする。
図1~図4を参照して、本発明の実施例1に係る密封装置について説明する。
図1を参照して、本発明の実施例に係る密封装置100の適用例を説明する。図1は自動車用のウォーターポンプ10の模式的断面図である。ウォーターポンプ10は、回転軸21と、回転軸21が挿通される軸孔を有するハウジング30とを備えている。回転軸21には、回転軸21の回転を円滑にするためのベアリング22が取り付けられている。また、回転軸21の一端側には不図示のベルト等によって回転駆動力が与えられるプーリー23が取り付けられており、他端側には冷却水(LLC)を圧送するためのインペラー24が取り付けられている。そして、本実施例に係る密封装置100は、この冷却水が外部(すなわち、密封対象流体側(L)とは反対側(A))に漏れてしまうことを抑制するために、回転軸21とハウジング30との間の環状隙間に配置される。つまり、本実施例においては、密封対象流体は冷却水である。
図2及び図3を参照して、本発明の実施例に係る密封装置100について説明する。ここで、図2及び図3(a)は回転軸21の中心を通る面で切断した断面図であり、図2は密封装置100単体の断面を示し、図3(a)は密封装置100を使用した状態における断面を示している。図3(b)は、図3(a)中、Z方向に見た場合における回転軸の回転方向(図中矢印R)を示している。なお、密封装置100は回転対称形状である。
本実施例に係る密封装置100によれば、ネジ突起(又はネジ溝)124によって、グリース170を第1シールリップ120のリップ部123の先端よりも密封対象流体側とは反対側(A)に移動させる機能を発揮させることができる。そのため、グリース170が密封対象流体側(L)に漏れてしまうことを抑制できる。これにより、第1シールリップ120と第2シールリップ140との間にグリース170が充填された状態を安定的に維持させることができ、第1シールリップ120の摺動性を長期に亘って維持させることができる。これに伴い、異音(鳴き)の発生を抑制でき、かつ摺動摩耗の低減によって、密封装置100の耐久寿命を向上させることができる。
図5には、本発明の実施例2が示されている。本実施例においては、上記実施例1におけるカートリッジの変形例を説明する。その他の構成および作用については実施例1と同一なので、同一の構成部分については同一の符号を付して、その説明は省略する。
上記実施例においては、密封装置の適用例として、自動車用のウォーターポンプ10に用いられる場合を例にして説明したが、本発明は相対的に回転する軸とハウジングとの間の環状隙間をシールする必要のある各種装置に適用可能である。特に、本発明は、家電用の装置や、負荷の少ない工業用のウォーターポンプにおける軸封用の密封装置や密封構造として、好適に用いることができる。

- 相対的に回転する軸とハウジングとの間の環状隙間をシールする密封装置において、
前記軸表面に摺動する第1シールリップと、
第1シールリップよりも密封対象流体側とは反対側に設けられ、前記軸表面に摺動する第2シールリップと、
第1シールリップと第2シールリップとの間に充填されるグリースと、
を備える密封装置であって、
第1シールリップのリップ先端は、密封対象流体側に向かって拡径する第1テーパ面と、密封対象流体側とは反対側に向かって拡径する第2テーパ面とを有しており、
第2テーパ面には、前記軸との相対的な回転に伴って前記グリースを軸方向に移動させる複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝が設けられており、これら複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝は、いずれも前記グリースを密封対象流体側とは反対側に向かって移動させる配置となっていることを特徴とする密封装置。 - 前記複数のネジ突起又はネジ溝は、第1シールリップのリップ先端における第1テーパ面と第2テーパ面との間のエッジ部に到達する位置まで設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の密封装置。
