Abstract

A red blood cell storage system is configured to allow ongoing introduction of nutrition and removal of waste from stored donated blood. The system includes at least one blood compartment structured to contain donated blood; at least one solution compartment structured to contain a storage solution; and a dialysis membrane disposed between the blood compartment and the solution compartment.
